Sadly, I'll have to wait until another Saturday to check this place out. I have to go support Jenn since Ronda incorporated her into the dance team for New Year's downtown. I'm sure this night will be amazing, too, so have fun and be safe!

Put a hold on this. As of now, it looks like it's cancelled because the owners decided this morning that they wanted hip hop.
Oh well. See everyone at the Caverns, I guess.

Wow, good thing I check the forums. I was going to swing by when it opens at 7PM just to check the place out but I figure if they just want hip-hop, why bother? This place may not last if the management makes last minute decisions like this. The caverns will certainly be packed though, looking forward to tonight! :D

i mean i understand wanting to cater to the crowd... but when you orginal book a crew of dj's... knowing what style of music they play... and then at the last minute... when we have canceled other plans for this oppertunity... to then demand a style of music that we typicaly and normaly do not play?!
yea.. sucks... oh well..
honestly... i would like for the management to still understand that not everyone is gonna like every style of music... and when you only play one style.. you are missing out on a totaly different crowd..
and still want us to take care of thier EDM needs :D

I was speaking to LXG (at tits tuesday) about this gig for NYE....I hate to say it but I was right about this spot....
I specifically told Alex that this venue is not going to except EDM very well ESPECIALLY on NYE!!!! and that I was kinda scared for you guys taking on this gig.
I dont know who set up this gig...but it was a def. bad move...
On the positive side....it was best that you guys didnt take play....it would have been a terrible night consisting of boos and hip hop requests.
Ive partied in sterling a couple of times and specifically at what is now call Ned divines...the crowd and the people are really into hip hop and hip hop only.
TRUST me when I say this....I dont think anyone wants to be apart of that venue...THAT VENUE IS CURSED I TELL YA!!!!
Over the past two years...its gone through like 5 name changes and managements!!! Although the venue on the inside is wonderful...it lacks the vibe and crowd to keep it going.
Ive read a couple of complaints latley on the board regarding crappy venues and managements latley....so I hope we start learning from these mis happs

I went to Ned's on firday. I wanted to check out the spot and see what it was all about. Well no shock for me. My neighbor got turned around as he did not have a collared shirt on. So the bitching started before we even got in. I met a few redskins which was kinda cool. But basically it's crappy hip hop and 80's music, and stuff you would find on the MTV and totally 90's dance cd's. Oh yeah dj's mixing there is somewhat of joke. I heard a few trainwrecks. Think back to your middle school dances and ur on track.
I thought the venue had amazing lighting nice sound though! but the people were more like something you would find at Dream, Shark club or Ecities :( There was even a Senator up in the VIP room. i wanted to ask what he was doing wasting my tax dollars in VIP. 2 Grand for a VIP room are u F**Kin kidding me? 2 G's for a VIP Room in Sterling of all places?
So I'm not really sure if i will go back. it's kinda of a last resort place imho. and it really reeked of the Ya/Yo vibes that plagued the Shark Club. Didn't help that they had like 5 Swat guys from the police department floating around. I was not thrilled with paying a 10 dollar cover to basically hear crappy dj's that can't mix. But it's Sterling and you can pretty much feel them not wanting the lantio's and Nascar fans spoiling their venue. You can deff tell they are going gunning for the Yuppie white "i just have so much money i'm not sure what to do with it vibe".
We still have Bridges though right Virginia?

we dont have brigdes they have you.....Wednesday nights are probably the hardest nights of the week to party on!!!!
When you consistantly fill a venue on the weekend night....thats when you know you got a spot....
NOVA does NOT support EDM.....it may be picking up....but I blame that on the internet....lol

not really. i've been involved with parties in DC/MD/VA for almost 10 years now. wed nights are great nights. the bridges night seems to do well. and most nights in the city that occur on a wed do pretty well.. it's not a question of nova supporting edm. because if that was the case nights like bridges would have never worked out. it's more who these club owners cater too. that's why i feel so many clubs have popped up only to last a year or 2 and close in VA. hell we even had a steady jazz club with basin street here in sterling and nobody went to it. suppose it's just s suburb thing.

uhhh...
last I heard it was Andrew Flint and Joey Muniz spinning Friday night... I'm sure they ended up having to play stuff that was more like hip hop and 80s...
but... as far as DJs on this board go... there might be 2 or 3 that I would say hold a candle to Muniz... and that's saying a lot.. .cause there's some HELLA-talented muthafuckas on here.

they didn't end up having to play tunes that were like hip hop and 80's they straight played cheese hip hop and 80's. and that's okay because that's what type of club it is. and maybe the iffy mixing was from the new sound system. i'm just calling it like i heard it.
my only real "GRIPE" is canceling my new years plans to hear some breaks and house and then read on the board at the last minute that the owners only want one thing. after they had been adverstising house, breaks, etc. sounds like the bait and switch too me......

Well as I mention WEDNESDAY nights dont have much to compare too....Nothing else goes on that night in NOVA....so im pretty sure the owner of brigdes doesnt mind EDM on wed...he'd probably make the same amount of money playing hip hop...so its only the smart thing to do to offer music variety on a "toss up" night..........but try to convince him to do it weekly on a friday or saturday....GOOD LUCK with that!!! ha
10 years of being in the "scene" doesnt match up to the thousands year old principle of "supply and demand"
95% of club owners dont think like djs....theyre in the entertainment business not music business.
Kudos on the effort in trying to bring the EDM sound to new places....but cmon it STERLING VA...on NYE......
sounds like the bait and switch too me...... LOL this made me laugh so hard!!!!......you think people were lined up by the thousands outside of Ned Devines (not to mention in sterling) expecting to hear EDM ON NYE!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!??!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?! LOLLLLOLOOLOL

um...I would just like to say that before the GIVE crew got to Bridges on Weds. nights? THERE WAS SHIT GOING ON there! Seriously. Not a damn thing! The first couple of weeks at bridges were like 3 lame regulars playing pool. PERIOD. The ONLY thing going on there were the DJs those guys brought in!! They have had hip-hop going on at Bridges for a long time now, and I have "had the pleasure" to hear them *coughsuckcough*.
I would disagree with the statement of "they have you". NO...we are damn lucky to HAVE THEM!! There are many weds. parties around DC that have far fewer people going to them...and even a few here and there scattered around the NoVa area...but GIVE pulls in people from as far away as MD and PA and WV for their parties on a WEEKDAY!! that to me is success...not bringing them in on a weekend (WHEN EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG's BONE GOES OUT ANYWAYS!!) --
Not to say packing them in on a weekend is NOT success....you have to have a consistantly good party to bring them BACK every weekend!! There is so much competition and bar hoppers!...I just think it is VERY unfair to say that the TRANSIT party is NOT successful - damn... that party has gone on for over a year and continues to pack them in. I salute you Give Productions in all your efforts and work!! :) You guys rock! AND standing up to the owners of a big club that throws money at you to change the music you spin and love? I salute you with TWO HANDS!! Very well played and my highest respect.

dont get me wrong....I love give pros. and there parties....
To be honest...the way give has been holding Wednesday nights down at brigdes and promoting the hell out of there parties....they should be rewarded and bumped up to a RESPECTABLE day such as friday or saturday....Thats the only reason why I say "the clubs got you"...but then again I dont know the intentions of Give Pros or Bridges....so its just my opinion.
As far as Ned Devines goes....I just thought it was a very bad move to play all EDM party at a brand new venue with virgin ears in an area accustomed to hearing hip hop and the norm....
So what if the venues new....from my point of view....if Give was going to go out on a limb....they should have ask a venue in DC or somewhere where the sound is appreciated. They have some much leverage and good referals to work with...
I would have hated to see Give take on this gig and it end up a disaster.

personally? I think that doing neds on a weekend with EDM or starting any NEW club in the area with an all EDM sound wouldn't be out of the question at all!! I would want the party to be on a saturday or sunday though...mostly because I am selfish and want to attend the buzz parties...but, I see no reason why it couldn't do good out in NoVA!! Hell...how many of us go to buzz everyweek?!! shitton of us! I WOULD LOVE to hang on a saturday closer to home!!
ALL EDM ALL THE TIME BABY...and to say any less? You are dooming a booming industry - the scene isn't dead nor is it fading...the only reason there are nay-sayers is because there are people who don't know the business!! You can be the nay-sayer...but I will continue to work with and for some of the biggest world promoters and production companies world-wide. Good luck on your nightmare you create for your self. You can listen to all MY hip-hop, cuz baby...I aint going there.
All I know is that the Give crew is awesome and they constantly booked great local talent. I have never been to transit and did not enjoy myself. We have them to thank for something great to do on wednesday nights in NOVA.
Um, hip hop(especially the shit they pass off under that name these days) by definition is EDM. The sooner we get people to recognize that, the faster people start to appreciate what they're listening to instead of just finding some drunk person through their beer goggles to try to feel up on the dance floor. You'll have to excuse me for being old and jaded, but I'm tired of hearing how EDM sucks and then the person turns around and listens to what passes for hip hop. Of course, I never claimed that the human race was intelligent, especially the vast group of them that have too much money to burn and not enough sense to do anything worthwhile with it.

hip hop by definition is EDM. You are correct David - Yeah. BUT...I would never start a club out on HIp hop to draw THAT crowd, then switch it to - oh, let's say breaks. *shrug* get the people you want there by playing the music they will listen to. Why disappoint your audience either way??!
If you want EDM - meaning everything BUT new-skool hip hop - then spin EDM - breaks, house, trance - electronica....not the garbage smut they throw down on the radio like "my humps my humps..." cuz I aint going to go to THAT club again.

the oppertunity was there.. and honestly we jumped on it ..
why ..
who wouldnt ..
yea.. things happend at the end.. and the business side showed its ugly face...
but still.. new club. awesome sound system.. the promise to play what we wanted...
and yes.. to a new crowd.. but hey .. thats not always a bad thing .. some people need the exposure to new things...
i can see the reasoning on the owners side.. cuz yes.. they need to make money...
last minute changes though... but think they could have gone about it a better way .. and lastly .. its not like we were asking for a boat load of money... hell.. its pocket change to alot..
guess it just want meant to be....
no worries...
we'll get a another chance one day...

I totally agree. It's completely up to the owners of the club which crowd they want to cater to, and in this area, that tends to mean the hip hop crowd. It's sad because of how much other music is out there to experience, especially in the same broad class of music that is EDM. But it's the money that talks, and that's what the club owners are going to do. *sigh*

I thought about that...the whole "catering to the hip-hop crowd" thing?:elad: I gotta think that it is the "bling bling" generation that does it...you see the pimped out rides and the struttin and acting like you iz something or somebody important MTV crap and that is what people apparetly want:not agaaain: For everyone to think they are all that and some SHiZZy. (wait....let me refrain that) it is apparently what people who WATCH MTV and FALL for the constant bombardment on the radio want. ME? I don't watch it, buy it, turn it on or turn it up...(unless it is remixed and I know that at least the crappy smut has been taken out of it and the proceeds are mostly going to a label I like and respect and/or a producer who I adore) :) -- other than that?
