Anyone here experienced with farming and matting prints? I have a collection of around 8 to 10 prints that are just rolled up in the containers they came in, and I would really like them, well, framed and matted. I had one professionally done (a Dalek print), but it was around $80 to have it done, and I'm not exactly a Rockafeller.

I would try it myself, but if you've seen any posters/prints I've put in frames, I don't exactly get things lined up properly at all. Post or PM me if you can help me out, or if you have suggestions on someplaces I could get this done for a fair price.

i think $80 is acually a good price for framing and matting. Depends on the size of the print though. I think anything larger than 24x36" gets an extra charge tacked on due to it being oversize.

Find out if you have an AC Moore near you.

They ALWAYS have really good pricing on Framing. The mats are super cheap too, and you can have them cut by them. You just do the little bit 'o work of lining things up the way that you like and voila! Framed.

Another option is to check out Michaels a little bit closer to xmas, possibly now already. They always have a 50% off custom framing deal for the holidays.

I know how to do it (the only thing worth while that I learned from my graphic design 1 class) but alas I lack the supplies to do so.

AC Moore is pretty good though

I would just like to announce that AC Moore is super awsome. They have so many resources available, and aren't too horribly priced

Much cheaper than Michaels for most stuff, but not as large of a store.

Cool, thanks for the leads. I think AC Moore and Michaels both have stores near my office.

Another option is to hit up Ikea or Michaels for pre-made frames. Michaels sometimes have them on sale. Ikea has $20 black metal frames. Pick ones that are at least 6" longer on a side than your prints. If they're even larger, that's not so bad either. Extra white space for your mat is always good in my book. Then all you need to do is get some mats cut to size, which any frame shop can do for you. If you have several that are identical, they may do it for cheaper. And you'll need some foamcore cut for the backing, which you can do yourself at home with a ruler and carpet knife. They sell that stuff in 30x40" sheets.

My dad knows a lot about this stuff. I think the expense comes if you have odd-sized material and the matt has to be cut by hand. Otherwise, you pay significantly less.

Lining stuff up is easy. Just measure and make pencil marks on the back of the matt. And use a tiny bit of tape on a couple of spots to secure the piece to the matt before you work it into the frame.

Frame Works in Rockville is a professional spot with good prices. If you tell them I sent you they may hook you up but I can't really guarantee that. They do great work.

not sure if there's an AC Moore anywhere near me, there is a Michael's though. i've got to get that thing framed before 2006, i've had it for almost 3 years now.

This is true, but there's a fairly large one located near 7-corners in Virginia :D

So close to me!
