uh... my desktop is a solid fill of this color...

but, then I look at windows all day long, not my desktop, so I don't really see the need for having anything going on in the background that sucks up memory that I don't even look at... Of course, I also run the "Windows Classic" theme on my computer, so, it's entirely possible I'm more into austere performance than fruity asthetics when it comes to my computer... :shrug:

A simple, non-animated background takes up hardly any memory. Having 10 million icons on your desktop today. I have it down to my recycle bin, and then I hide the icons. I have my Y'z doc for quick clicks, then my auto-hid menu so that I have a full screen to flash out my background.

you could just take the pic and center it on a completely black (or other color of your chosing) background that is 1280 x 1024

could be an ok idea, it would just have a black border all the way around it

that may even provide a good place to put your icons

ya i did that. i still dont get why many people only make 1024X768 images when many people use resolutins lke 1600X1200 today etc.
