Yo, what's the arrangement for the scheduled line-up? A bunch of my friends and I really want to see Andrew Grant, but we might not make it until 11 or so. I guess it says that Soulminer is performing the opening set. I heard that kid got some skills. I hope I don't miss him. I know PT will be breakin'em off something fierce. So little time, so many beats. See you the 25th!!!! FLAUNT IT!!!

Soulminer is not performing the opening set, Andrew Grant will be opening the night each week as his deep and minimal sound is the most suitable for the early hours of the event. I suggest you arrive before 11!!!!

Your telling everyone here that a resident from Ibiza, who regularly plays with the top talent in the world, is opening for Soulminer? With all due respect to Soulminer's skills, . . . that's funny. As far as your analysis on the type of music Andrew plays, well, you would have Richie Hawtin as the opener for DJ DAN, . . . even funnier. Minimal is the up-and-coming underground, perfect for all times @ Red Maple. Baltimore needs a taste badly. Not @ 9pm every Friday. Andrew, if you are out there . . . please say you didn't agree to this , or at least that your are in the midst of fixing it. My peeps will never get to see the AG I saw @ DC-10. Opening for Soulminer . . . and the following week Atnarko. Is this a marketing tool for somebody's friends . . . somebody's company? Who are we really Flaunting here? You betta check yourself.
:wtf:

it was Andrew's idea, and his preference. Please respect what we are doing.
He will open every week, followed by Patrick and another house guest. Let's break minimal in one step at a time, my friend. Lose your negavitity, we know what we are doing.

On top of that, Circoloco and Red Maple are probably the most opposite venues on earth. You're talking about a compltely drugged up spanish island monday morning afterparty, compared to a modern-lounge martini drinking type of place where the music stops at 1:45. Trust me, this is the formula that is going to work if minimal has any chance of being introduced properly.
Red Maple already maintains a good friday night crowd which is acustomed to downtempo, house, and hiphop.. We could completely destroy their clientle if we have minimal techno playing at midnight. This party was designed from the beginning to be a full night experience. The order of the DJ's has absolutely nothing to do with their worth or talent. It is decided based on the flow of the music through the night. We feel that from 9-11, the deep minimal sounds of AG are much more effective while many of the patrons will be still eating dinner. After 11, Patrick and guest will play house & tech house. Baltimore is not ready for anything much more experimental to be the peaktime music of the night. Seriously, don't question what we are trying to do before you have even experienced it. It's also very offensive to imply this is some kind of promotional tactic. Soulminer (an increidble DJ) is probably more well known than Andrew Grant in Baltimore, and Atnarko is a legend himself - neither of them are going to benefit anymore from Andrew or Patrick than the other parties will... but again thats besides the point. It's party music, funky & jackin house, electrofunk, futuristic beats. that's what we will be doing at Flaunt after 11. It's the balance we must maintain to keep the clubs current clientle. Everything is in it's right place...
This is not a rave, it's a club night at a really swanky lounge that has a small dancefloor- the idea is for it to be intimate. It's not a place for late night druggy music. DJ Dan would not be able to play at Red Maple, nor Richie Hawtin.. I'm guessing you've never been to the venue. This is not for that kind of music. Peak time minimal is excellent for druggy parties. This is like a restaurant , lounge, and dance bar..
The owners (who also own Goodlove) have a certain vibe they want to maintain, we will introduce something new, slowly, as time progresses, so will our crowd's understanding of interesting music - like I said, we know what we are doing...
Get there at 8, eat dinner from the excellent tapas menu... start partying earlier, why do you think we have an open bar the first week from 9:30-10:30 - We want people out early, we're sick of people showing up at 12 and leaving at 1:45, That's a night out. try the formula, this is what Andrew and Patrick came up with to try and create this vision...

some djs, take craig richards (one of the forefront minimal djs) much perfer to be "an opening dj".. it is an artform in it's own, to set the pace and atmosphere for the beginning of the night is a challenge and an incredible skill to maintain weekly.

I asked 10 people from Baltimore, that listen to electronic music, four seperate questions:
1)Have you ever heard of Soulminer?
Answer - Yes, 2 out of 10
2) Have you ever heard of Patrick Turner?
Answer - Yes, 6 out of 10
3) Have you ever heard of Ibiza?
Answer - Yes, 10 out 10
4) If you had a chance to go see Soulminer, Patrick Turner, or any DJ from Ibiza, who would you go see?
Answer - 10 out 10 . . . any DJ from Ibiza
References available upon request
I guess 10 out 10 will be happy if they show up by 9, but only 2 out that 10 make it out before 10 pm on Friday nights
I know you guys are popular amongst your own circles, but I think the idea is to know the market, not just your fans.
I understand your venue constraints, and I understand your idea, but I, and a lot of others that know of Andrew, were geeked to finally see him perform regularly in Baltimore. It's tough to get out and stay out when you start @ 9, unless of course we turn Red Maple into the simple drug induced afterhours rave that seems to be Circoloco. (Andrew, I'm sure, you and Ciroloco loved that description).
You guys are right, sorry for any conflict.

@progroove, and I'm not involved in this party so I could be wrong but... I *think* from what I've read/heard, that they're going for a mature audience with this. People who want to go out for a nice dinner & then stay to enjoy some good music, dance, & have a couple of drinks through the course of the night rather than those starting out at midnight intent on getting as drunk as possible by 2am then looking for the afterparty. just my take on it

I think everyone should come to this party early. I know our city's not known for late night parties, and that's the way it's going to be; unless we some how over turn this 2:00am thing. I've played @ the Red Maple for the last 2 years, and have always had a great time. The main reason it's an enjoyable experience; the clientele. The crowd is more mature, the women actually care about how they look, and believe it or not, you don't see alot of the extreme drunkeness in baseball caps, like some other spots in Baltimore. BTW they don't serve "Miller Lite", they encourage people to experience good cocktails with premium liquor. I'm old as hell, but I enjoy hanging-out; the "Maple" may be a little over peoples head's; but that's kinda of the point, if you feel uncomfortable @ The Maple, maybe you should't be there. The music played @ the Maple will be a great return to the "all house" format when the Red Maple opened. The Red Maple has always allowed different forms of EDM and music alike, I've been playing straight "DUB" @ RedMaple on Fridays from 7pm-10pm and dub is some pretty far-out stuff, it looks like I'll be playing only til 9pm from now on. See you guys on Friday.

regardless of how a lot of peoplle feel about certain djs/promoters, including myslef, i will for sure check it out on friday. Red maple is a very different and unique venue in baltimore that stands away from the whole power plant fells point crowd. i love me some red maple, i will be there on friday. good that they have andrew playing early, because i have to work next day and can't stay till late.

I hope and trust your event went well this week. Andrew, I recognize your name from a lineup in Brooklyn with my good friend Deepak Sharma and wanted to pass along my best wishes. If I didn't have my own weekly in Richmond to attend to on Fridays I would certainly take the trip up to check it out (and would certainly have no trouble being there by 9 ;O)
We are actually breaking in some Minimal at my lounge (leather couches, plasmas, no dance floor, etc) and we too do it from 9-11 and it has been very successful. And that slot is the most desired slot by locals now. Deepak has come down and headlined for us and made it work so it's possible...but then again he is better than me :O)
Good luck guys...
