interestingly enough I always heard Violet Vision described as "Israel's answer to the Prodigy" or something like that.... but I never heard anything else by them other than this remix...

and the remix is pretty fucking killer... used to play it a lot... which should tell you something about how it sounds cause I can't stand psytrance...

This is the strategy apparently. Jen I don't know much about her and would give her the benefit of the doubt, but BA sucks. I can name 10 other Florida djs who can easily run rings around her with track selection, producing and mixing ability and would put together a much better disc. BA's just window dressing and little else. Sorry but she's run her course IMO.

But all the little kiddies who know zero about breaks will buy this thing and think she's the standard. Very sad.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one...
please send me the links to 10 other florida dj's upcoming/recently released CD's that put together a better disc (according to you) and i'll gladly check them out.
i'm sure there are plenty of "better" florida breaks tracks out there than some of those trax... but putting all the newest hottest tracks from the big boys on the same disc requires some serious backing by a much bigger record company. shit. with unlimited funding i could put out a serious cd also...lol

ok rob...

i'll bite.

let's examine baby anne's mix.

here is the tracklisting -

TRACKLISTING
CD 1 – DJ BABY ANNE
1. Scratch D feat. Brazen – Throwdown
2. Baby Anne – Freaks Groove (The Remix!)
3. Product 01 – I Like It Now
4. Baby Anne – She’s The Devil
5. Trixie – 2 Dragons
6. Mylo – Drop The Pressure (Future Funk Squad Remix)
7. Malicious Mike – Ding Dong
8. Roxiller – Fear 2
9. Baby Anne – Dementia
10. Jimmy Rhodes – Time Format
11. Praise Cats – Shined on Me (Trashy Edit)
12. Influenza – Let Me Fall
13. Kmfx – Blaze It Up
14. Misfilter – Want It All (Influenza Remix)

let's examine this,

the nuskool tunes:

a) fear 2 - come on now. how unlike the rest of this cd can this song get. shit is even too hard and techy for my tastes. nowhere near as good as the first fear i think.

b) the ffs mix of drop the pressure - this aint even the best mix of this song on the record. but irrelevant, how played out is drop the pressure? come on. maybe not to stupid rolling kids in miami, but most other places in the world are tired of this song.

c) she puts 2 influenza tunes on here. maybe it's just me, cuz im not the biggest influenza fan, but their shit just usually doesnt go anywhere.

the rest is florida crap.

do i need to say anything more about the baby anne mix other than i feel if any number of us had the backing that she does, we coulda put out a perfect ass pro tooled craptastic to some mix as well.

im hating, because well i dont like baby anne, and havent for a long time.

a) in the future, have some kind of say about the cover of your cd. i mean...come on jen. that shit is awful. regardless of how hard you worked on that cd, that cover makes you look amateur as fuck.

there is actually a lot more to this than just a), but that has to do with personal views. learn to accept the negative feedback as well as someone saying "congrats"

you cant honestly say you think that cover is good. and the fact they misspell your cd on your own label's website is weak.

i realize there's nothing you can do about it, but if you're going to put something out that looks like that, you have to be ready to accept the criticism.

baby anne reminds me of aphrodite.

I actually bought the new aphrodite CD because it was on sale and I needed a laugh, and the guy at the counter looks at it and says "I've heard good things about this cd". sure, if you like fratboy clownstep. he then rang up Guerilla Warfare from renegade hardware and didn't say anything about it. he obviously knew nothing.

comparing Aphrodite to Baby Anne is ridiculous in my opinion. I don't think I even need to go into the reasons why...but if you need them just say so and I will...now I will say that i'm not a fan of most of his released CD's, but the man is a wicked DJ, he is so fucking much better than Baby Anne behind the decks it isn't even worth mentioning...

much respect to Jen for releasing a CD on a major label. that is a huge accomplishment - one that every DJ hopes to achieve someday.

all the talk about the cover is whatever - when you get into the next level of shit you have less control over how you are marketed. you think your favorite (big) DJs/bands have any say over what they wear or how their covers look? you'd be surprised.

people need to recognize the fact that jen has broken out of 'local dj' status and give her props. she has a serious agent behind her now, and is playing all over the country on a weekly basis. dope cover or not - jen is blowing the fuck up, and DC should be psyched for her.

its two hot chicks in skimpy outfits with deadly weapons striking sexy poses... whuts hotter than that?
Honestly girls: Respect. Yall bitches is doin it

OK we all know as a FACT that a hot girl who can spin gets EXPONENTIAL exposure and DJ opurtunitities compared with a male DJ. But regardless (put track selection aside for 1sec) Baby Anne and Lasher CAN MIX. I have heard proof of this.

no buster, i do think people still have some kind of control over how they are marketed. shit, i've heard stories about how they are.

and as far as her breaking out of local dj status, i think a lot more people would be psyched for her if they didnt know what was the major factor in her doing so.

it's hard to respect something that doesnt respect itself.

i have to disagree - often times artists have VERY little control over the marketing side of things. thats not their job. they are told to show up somewhere for a photoshoot and thats about all they know. this is not true across the board - but is very often the case.

as for the high school style rumors - i think thats all a bunch of shit. the fact is - people talk shit. when someone does well (blows up, gains popularity, etc) - people talk more shit. who knows what happened...i dont - but i do know that the people spreading the most rumors have PERSONAL reasons for doing so. i think a few haters started talking shit, and the masses jumped on the bandwagon. that shit reminds me of 9th grade.

i havent heard the CD yet. who knows - i may never hear it, but i do know that jen has skills as a DJ. shes been doing this shit for alot longer than most local DJs around here. i wonder if every DJ that breaks out from this area is going to face the same kind of hating. the price of fame perhaps?

i do agree with this. the people who started the most shit have personal reasons for doing so. and some of the people who jumped on that bandwagon are freinds of those people. they are loyal to their freinds. that and people are allowed to forumulate their own opinions on someone.

i havent heard the CD yet. who knows - i may never hear it, but i do know that jen has skills as a DJ. shes been doing this shit for alot longer than most local DJs around here. i wonder if every DJ that breaks out from this area is going to face the same kind of hating. the price of fame perhaps?

im not saying she doesnt. she has to to be at this place in her career. maybe some people dont think as highly of her skills as you do tho. and no, i dont think they will. look at people like wish. she is a known name now. she has put out awesome tunes. not one person says the things about her that are said about jen lasher. as far as doing it longer than most local djs around here, that's a pretty bold statement.

as far as hating...dc is haterville. i've had this talk with lots of people. people around here love to hate. i know im guilty of it....and yes, it is the price of fame.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one...
please send me the links to 10 other florida dj's upcoming/recently released CD's that put together a better disc (according to you) and i'll gladly check them out.
i'm sure there are plenty of "better" florida breaks tracks out there than some of those trax... but putting all the newest hottest tracks from the big boys on the same disc requires some serious backing by a much bigger record company. shit. with unlimited funding i could put out a serious cd also...lol
looking forward to hearing the BA mix!
:D

Maybe not 10 Rob, the list is growing a little thin out of FL lately.

But I'll throw in

Fixx's latest disc
Sharaz's DVD/CD
Infiniti (if he ever bothered)

These guys don't have to license songs for their comps. They don't need to. Anyone can license other peoples tracks and put them on a cd. Big whoop. Question: name me a BA cd that has all of her own music on it? How about one with the majority of it being something she "wrote"? Go ahead...I'll wait...

You can't because it doesn't exist and never will. Look...I'll support those who are key to the scene and guys who really make the wheels go round as far as Florida goes. Why doesn't System back one of those guys? They definitely have the firepower both dj and production wise and all have a big enough fanbase. Instead we get this. I'm just disappointed it's gone on this long. Thank god for the indie labels putting out their own shit or else I wouldn't be listening at all.

A little info for you. It's no secret you can license tracks these days for pennies on the dollar compared to a few years back. Hardly anyone's doing licensed comps anymore so the asking price for tracks has gone way way down. The demand isn't there like it used to be and cd sales have dropped just the same.
