Anyone heard why ed rush and optical's 'reese' was recalled because it
was "mispressed" ?
i got an e-mail from chemical records letting me know it wasn't being shipped
and that i would be credited...
any info anybody?
i know this tune has been ripped by many but imo it hits
plus the sicknote rmx is pretty .... <ummm> sick !

i was digging both sides of what was supposed to be released. but without the sicknote remix, I'm gonna wait on this one. I heard whatever tune that is on the other side and wasn't feeling it much at all.

I personally have a hard time beleiveing that Ed Rush & Optical did "Reese". They're too skilled of producers to be making a tune like that. I mean, an Amen + Apache with no changeups and a generic reese bass, and the snares are off time. No way man, even a beginning producer could slap that one together in an hour.

I'm surprised everyone is dogging Reese. I kind of like the tune even if it is a little repetative.

Honestly I'm starting to think that they really don't care anymore. Just living off of their names. Saw a recent Optical top 10 that was strickly for the red nose crew.

yea ive got to say im really not feeling the most of new tunes theyre putting out lately @ all , or most of their djing selection for that matter. goodfoot was a pretty good tune, i would have liked to see more in that direction .. ah well times change i guess. its just easy to look back @ the early techstep period and expect so much more of them

I just don't see how people can hate it so much. i mean i understand the expectations b/c its ed ruch and optical, but overall i don't think it's a bad tune.
thats just my opinion obviously, but some ppl really got a lot of hate for that one.
i know for most its b/c of what ed rush and optical did in the past and that amazing impact they used to have on the scene and this tune falls short of living up to that kind of standard.

well, i'll tell you why i don't like it, and maybe someone else will agree with me:
1. the use of the apache is sloppy and lopsided. there's nothing wrong with a lopsided beat (see: break - z-groove), or a fine apache (see: matrix - apache), however, this is one is not good at all.
2. yes, the big giant reese bassline. though recently i've taken a bit of a disliking to the big ugly reese, and i kind of had to refer back to the classics (see: dj trace - the mutant revisted, 1997). this is just so simple and ugly it reminds me of stuff produced by generation dub, twisted individual, etc. (see: generation dub - return of the bodysnatchers).
3. no funk. this is the ultimate whiteboy i can't dance dnb (no offense to whiteboys who cannot dance, though you should not be offended in your acceptance of your whiteboyness and not being able to dance).
4. i am not devastated because this this is from ed rush and optical, anyone should have seen this coming (see: ed rush & optical - the original doctor shade lp, cymande - the message (ed rush & optical remix), ram trilogy - beastman (ed rush & optical remix), tali - lyric on my lip (ed rush & optical remix), adam freeland - we want your soul (ed rush & optical remix)).
and for our bonus number 5: the sick note remix on the flip is decent (i suppose taking the very safe don't-do-much-to-it-so-people-won't-hate-us-for-it approach will do that), the money for that 12" is much better spent on a repress of the original.

yea, the apache just haphazardly thrown on top of that bog standard amen is cringe worthy. the little kick drum rolls that build up to nothing make it seem like a clownstep track and the reese is just awful. sounds like it was made in 5 minutes. i mean, for a tear-out track its not the worst but certainly nothing special.. youd expect more from ed+op.

well, thanks for breaking it down.
briefly in response
1. the lopsided apache doesnt bother me.
2. the reese is big and simple, yes, but that makes it easy to groove to (not that that fact in and of itself means much but, ya know, it works for me in this case) imo
3. hm. haven't thought about it from the funk aspect before. i see where it is lacking in that department
4. i understand, but even if you could still see it coming, i'm sure you've been disapointed since you first realized the downfall of the dynamic duo. i think some people may have seen it coming also, but weren't expecting it to be as bad as they perceive reese as being.
5. word. i mean that doesnt directly relate to the Reese-hate, but word.

i think this tune rocks ! i've only heard it the mix once (zinc NYE @ accelerated culture - best set ever imo w/ dynamite) - i like the simplicity of the track - i don't produce so i really don't care that
it's too basic a track for those two - i think their tunes recently are definitely different from their
neurofunk origins but are still quality dancefloor smashers - IMO

i dunno man, really not feeling this one. i do like the sicknote remix tho , not a bad touch-up at all on the original, which is pretty hard to do imo
