Thanx for having us out Alias crew. It would have been nice to have more of our peeps come out, but with the lineup & timeslots being released the day before was kinda difficult for some peeps to take off work on such short notice.

Don't quite know what "lack of musical harmony is" but whateva. Perhaps it was the "Welcome to the DC Jail" electro / vocal intro that baffled the regulars. I thought it was totally appropriate, since we were in DC. Kinda doesn't make much sense to play that track in the 804, based on location. We were told we could play whatever, and sense we do own a record store (www.turnstylesoundsystem.com)...whatever could consist of just about whatever..ya know. Sorry I missed out on Virtue and Rami's set (two of my fav peeps), but I got to hear Virtue tear it up on our loud and booming (and stable) soundsystem at ++THERAPY++ last week, he always rocks it proper (www.EvolveVa.com for more info). I did throw on breaks..about 20 min into our 40 minute set. Since traffic was super out of control heading up, and I only got to hear the last few tracks from the dnb kids that played before us...My favorite track (Jesse played) was Rennie Pilgrim's remix of Omar Santana's : Tales from the Darkside (Coast). (Although it was released in 1996 and may be a little more classic for a few in attendance), but since when is Rennie Pilgrim not considered breakbeat? Anyhow, thanx again kids. Rave till Dawn.

First, the line up might have been released the day before but I'm sure you knew of the booking days before hand. Clearly with all your experience in this industry you have a firm concept on what self promotion is, correct? You were playing a small event so it's not like you had to keep the booking under wraps until a line up was released, so if not that many people showed then your own lack of self promotion shares the blame.

Another thing that's odd about your coments is the fact that you claim that you were told that you guys could play whatever, but it's well known that Alias is a dnb + breaks event only. If you read any thread about Alias at any time you would see that info clearly posted, and furthermore one would think that you would do a little bit of research about the venue/event that you've been booked to play.

On that note, how does your ownership of a record store factor into what records you play? Read the above again if you must, but if you're booked to play a dnb/breaks event then you don't disrespect the promoter by simply doing whatever the hell you feel like doing.

if you mean the alias regulars, yes there were a few...like 5 or 6. but if you mean the people who were actually dancing to your set? oh those were the goths, they'd basicly dance to anything though.


seriously man. while your set was ok for what it was (and don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, but not appropriate for alias). when you clear a floor that fast wouldn't you think "maybe I should try something a bit different". or when moody or myself had told you that maybe you should switch things up a bit...and I know I did myself at least one time, you would think you would at least try to in order to get some people out on the dancefloor. Tonja told you this was a breaks and dnb party. You were in fact supposed to be booked previously and had to be rescheduled, so you had plenty of time to do some research on what is normally played around here. 4x4 beats though no matter if they are classic or whatever, just arn't acceptible at this party

Yeah, as much as i dont want to be mean or disrepectful to the DJs in the last time slot, I have never seen a room empty out so fast. I found everyone standing at the botom of the stairs listening to the main room just cause what was upstars was NOT what any of us wanted to be hearing. I mean, at other events, I would expect to hear that, but after several hours or heavy breaks, rolling bass, and drum loops, hearing some 4/4 thumps and minimal drum patterns leaves you kinda unsatisfied. Just my personal preference I guess. Give it to me hard or not at all.

here is a track considered to be one of the first "jungle" tunes ever -- separate from the uk hardcore breakbeat of its day. the title: "just 4 u london" by bodysnatch.

released in '92, this track was remixed in '97, but nothing captures the feel of the original. like new york and hip-hop, this track was a pride-filled anthem to the multi-cultural city that spawned the d'n'b music we still love almost 15 years later.
