i always thought that since djing has been fashionable, it seems that the quality of them decreases, maybe they just get drowened out by the fashion sheep.

i put a lot of thought into this last year but is it good to have trends within the scene,
what my problem always seems to be is this,

a few poineers will create something great, which then gets emulated to a point where record stores become awash with shite vinyl. which they obviosly dont sell, and i have to sift through.

this seems to happen quite a lot, house came in then everything was house, as did garage and trance, after the first year or so, you just get sick of it,

does trends improve the quality of the scene, or does it just fill the scene with crap?

i kinda like trends sometimes, cuz it helps those who put in the extra time to search for the better less noticed stuff. like, if everything in the bin was good, then what's the fun in that =P

r u talking about DJs or Producers? there is a HUGE difference. Seems like you lumped them into 1 in this q.

I think its a circle. Something is new and good, then its played out, then something else new and good comes out. If people were always content with whats hot then new genres would take forever to surface, if at all.
