that would be soundgarden, and they have a decent selection of downtempo, hip hop and micro house.

there's a used vinyl store in Hampden. they've got a lot of stuff (not necessaryly hiphops... but I saw some downtempo stuff) from before mid 80s.

there's a new place in adams morgan with a very eclectic selection, lots of non edm stuff in there- it's called crooked beats. its on 18th street right near maggie moo's in a townhouse basement. definitely worth checking out.

No shit? I didn't know about that I'll def have to check that place out. Is it privately owned? I ask because you said it's in a townhouse basement.

um, as far as i know it's not a chain store... but i really dont know much about it.
by townhouse basement i just meant like 95% of the other stores on 18th street, it's got apartments above it and the store is located in the basement of the building which is just a couple steps down from street level. i made mention of the fact cause it's a little hard to see if you're just walking through the neighborhood and dont know where to look.

Crooked Beat was launched last year by Neal Becton (who's been DJing for a long time under the name Neville Chamberlain) after he quit his day job at the Washington Post.
I think Crooked Beat has two bins of downtempo. DJ Hut usually has half a bin or two-thirds of a bin. I'd prefer to see more in both stores, but I'm glad there is at least some opportunity to get records locally...

I was thinking of mentioning that, but I wasn't sure how much downtempo they had....I'll have to go and dig through those rekks my self soon

yeah. I knew that... but some other DJ bought his stuff and opened up another one across from that old shop. I've just never been there and don't know if the "new" one still exists.

hc, philly's not too far, and cue record's ONLY carries hip hop and downtempo (and things in between/nearly related). totally worth the trip.
