Should I buy a 303 clone kit?

I am on the waiting list for this thing here. Now it is time to buy or not buy. I would have to assemble the thing myself. What do you think?

Yeah. The thing with this one is you actually have to built it. And once you figure in the cost of electronic supplies and equipment I am looking at close to $600 total. And all the time it takes. It looks cool and I'm sure it would be tons of fun.

Anyway I am not sure I am going to go for it. If anyone here wants to take my place on their waiting list let me know. I'll email the person and give them your email address.

Actually - Tau Pro is great for basslines. Alot of psytrance producers use it.

i'd say... find a real tb-303 .. or just use a soft synth.. dont waste your money on a clone.

you could also get a poor mans 303.. aka the mc-202... (no no no not an mc303)..

its almost as cool as an sh101 but is more step programming like the tb.. but lacks the sequencing memory the tb has. for that use 202hack to import midi via the reverese engineered tape backup format thanks to our friends at defective records.

sure there are many pluses to some of these new clones.. direct midi control, usb interfaces.. or maybe the fact they dont have to warm up or arent 20+ years old.

maybe im stubborn or lost in the past.. but i <3 my tb303

303s are so fucking expensive... i like this clone thing. it looks like they took a lot of care in making it authentic. i'd love to get one and use it as a guitar synth module... that would be so hot.

Have you used the 202 Scott? I know about it but unfortunately that too is starting to go up in price. $4-500 is norm now for one in decent condition.

I think if I go for anything, it will probably be a future retro revolution at some point. They seem to know what they are doing.

I am eager to hear your thoughts on the 202 vs 303 though.

i had the 202 and it felt like a toy. Hooking it up was a pain in the ass. I eventually went to a soft-synth called "Generator", side by side *sounds* like the 202, but i can do much more.

I wouldn't buy it .. Soft synths sound so damn good these days, that with a little tweaking, you can get them sounding as dynamic as most analog synths.
