DJ Sushi bio:

with his roots in r&b, hip-hop, rap, house, and drum & bass, it was no wonder that sushi decided to assign himself the task of spreading the underground garage sound.

originally starting off spinning hip-hop at the age of 13 in late 1996, moving on to house in 1998, and then drum & bass later on that year, sushi eventually discovered the uk garage sound when he heard the classic artful dodger track, "re-rewind". the sound impressed him so much that he took it upon himself to delve deeper into this unique new sound.

around early 2000, sushi began acquiring all the uk garage and 2-step tracks he could get his hands on -- everything from the smooth soulful 2-step uk garage tracks to funky breakstep tracks to the bass-thumping 4 to the floor tracks.

in fall 2001, sushi released his mix debut, "step in2 my mind", composed of heartfelt, soulful garage tracks as well as heavy mc-driven breakstep tracks. it far exceeded sushi's expectations when his album broke the 500 mark for sales.

sushi's second album, "enjoy tha ride" was featured in the mix-it section of the june 2003 issue of urb magazine. the album itself has currently sold over 400 copies.

since sushi's emergence in 2001 as a uk garage and breakstep dj, he has been booked all over the states alongside talent like dj db, freaky flow & mc flipside, skylab 2000, reid speed, syrup girls, 3d, casper, paul johnson, and more.

the mixing style of sushi has changed over time, evolving much like the sound of uk garage itself. going beyond the common stylings of a "mix-and-blend" dj, sushi utilizes his skills acquired from his early days as a hip-hop dj by throwing in scratching and beat juggling (in similar fashion as other garage and breakstep djs such as luca and deekline) into his live performances.

2005 has a big year for sushi, as far as musical experimentation. he has been working closely with whoa-b (a member of brüt force) as the duo "b. raw" to develop the stateside "g-hop" sound -- "g-hop" defining their mashup of grime, 4x4 garage, 2-step garage, and hip-hop (specifically, the midwest, crunk, and screw hip-hop styles) with the use of quick mixing, cutting, and scratching techniques. (live examples of this can be heard on the weekly brüt force radio show, RELOAD, on sundays or at any of sushi's live performances).

this summer will mark the release of sushi's 4th official mix release entitled "heatwave" (more information to be added soon).

in addition to music, sushi has been expanding his company, brüt force entertainment, by separating its event promotion operations from its artist management operations. the start of a record label division is also in the works.

TOM B // Biography

Thomas Blondet, also known as DJ Tom B., is best described by the words of Bad Boy Bill. He says, ³ DJ Tom B. is the real deal. He brings the funky beats that get dance floors rockin'!² Tom's raw talent, combined with an intense passion for house music, create body- moving, seamlessly mixed sets that are nothing short of perfection. He has a strong ability to read a crowd and create a vibe. With his intuitive record selection and unsurpassed technical abilities, Tom B. has rightly earned a reputation as one of America's elite DJs.

From the first time he stepped behind a pair of turntables in 1990, Tom was positive that music would be the driving force in his life. Growing up in South Florida and NYC in the early 90s, Tom was heavily influenced by the sounds of freestyle, miami bass, and house.

Since, Tom has played for every major club and promoter up and down the east coast, not to mention countless other parties throughout the US and Canada. He has held residencies at Pollen, Buzz, and M3 just to name a few. Currently, you can catch Tom every Wednesday at Fresh*, Thursday at Red, and Friday at Dragon fly. Red, being one of the most highly revered house clubs in the country, Red was recently named "Best Intimate Club" in America by Urb Magazine. Holding down the hottest parties and clubs in the nation, has earned Tom widespread respect and a large crowd following.

At the same time as promoting and playing parties, Tom began working in the studio alongside legendary music producer Desmond Williams. In addition, he has recently been signed to Rhythm and Culture Recordings. Tom's 12 inch single "European Coaster" is to be released on Rhythm and Culture Recordings, in July 2005. Also be one the look out for Tom's other release on Odd's and Ends called "Into Me' Featuring Apple Rochez.

Btw, the flyer says we're playing 2-step. We're not. At all.

Dubstep, grime, and dub, with a bit of Baltimore Club. Okay, maybe Sushi might play a tune or two of 2-step, but this is not a 2-step night.
