That one's hilarious.
you know, I appreciate artsy-fartsy eclectic stuff as much as the next guy, but, uh, does this mix actually do anything? EDM didn't attract me by being cerebral; rather, it got my attention because it made me bob my head and shake my ass... oh, well... I'm probably just another one of those pop-edm fans everyone keeps talking so negatively about... :D
okay, it took a while, but it started doing something I liked... @ 40 minutes in or so... that Knight Rider mini-sample is awesome...

no.. you're just one of those pop-edm fans everyone keeps talking so negatively about...
btw, there are varying degrees of energy level in dub-step, from chilled out blunted grooves, to full on dancefloor mayhem... you should have checked out that j'da flex set joe posted last week. although I guess this week might be just as good too.

well that's what I get for trying to make it easier on people..
btw, the tunes El Sid play aren't quite as syncopated as the other mix. lots of snares on the 2 and 4. will fix links.. sorry it took me so long, busy day at work.

good point Chris. By the way...Paul Rose says "big up". Met him last night @ DMZ in Brixton. ElSid says "hello".

Yes....this mix does something. I understand that you got into EDM because you want to dance, but just because you hear a tune, doesnt mean that you have to dance.
to each his own....some like it, others dont.
btw, there are varying degrees of energy level in dub-step, from chilled out blunted grooves, to full on dancefloor mayhem...
Well said. I'm a perfect example of this. The last time I played @ Alias, half of my set was the "blunted grooves" material that Chris referred to, the other half was for the rumpshakers. I was tagging with Light Touch....i started off the set with three dubbed out Digital Mystikz tunes. LT played his three tunes. I then went back on and played 2 Distance tunes and a Mark One tune. LT went on and I went to the bar.
I had one guy tell me, "Joe, when are you gonna play more dubby stuff?"
A girl comes up to me 2 minutes later and says, "Joe....keep playing the breaky stuff....I like it !"
What people fail to realize is this: Just because a tune is @ 140 bpm, it doesnt automatically classify as dubstep. I can speak on this topic (as an expert) for the following reasons:
1. This is what i play.
2. I know the dubstep producers.
3. I know the non-dubstep producers.
Honestly, i'm just calling all this uk underground garage music "dubstep" because there's not really a better name for it. It's difficult to explain in words....you have to hear it.
dubstep:
Digital Mystikz (Mala) - 10 Dread Commandments (http://www.blackmarket.co.uk/mp3/listen.m3u?sf=38185_000100010004.mp3)
Kode 9 - Spit (http://www.blackmarket.co.uk/mp3/listen.m3u?sf=38742_000100010001.mp3)
grime:
Plasticman - Be There Or Be Square (http://www.blackmarket.co.uk/mp3/listen.m3u?sf=41985_000100010001.mp3)
non-dubstep (breaks & bass ?????):
Distance - Replicant (http://www.blackmarket.co.uk/mp3/listen.m3u?sf=42519_000100010001.mp3)
Three completely different vibes....three different sounds....one name.
in my opinion....dubstep is an acquired taste. regardless, there's something for everyone.
The breaks djs like the non-dubsteppy tunes. The d & b heads like the dubby stuff, but some feel the breaky business. Girls....they love grime.
There's more to come.
