Maybe if I bought Golly a redbull or 2 twice a month :ponder:

I have this kind of camera

It's a decent pice of equipment. I need to read into a little more to be able to take quality crowd shots in the club. I think I should apply.

go practice taking pictures in the dark a while.
And go get some flashing colored lights, strobe lights, christmas lights, and a fog machine... put them all in the same room working at random intervals, and then try to take a decent picture of something in the room, or the room as a whole.

lol

Club photography is an art unto itself.

eh

it depends on your camera and experience level both.

With my camera I almost always get some level of light coming through. In the darkest situations I can still see the silluette of the people I'm about to photograph, or at least a portion of one of them. And from that I can infer, based on experience, where the rest of them are in the frame and angle my camera accordingly.

I've also used other cameras where you have absolutely no clue and just have to get a lot of experience in knowing where to hold the camera and where the frame is 3-4 feet from the lens.

or pictures taken of people's butts, crowd shots that are only 5% crowd, 7 photos in a row of the same 2 girls, pictures so dark and far away that you have no idea what the focus was on, and last but not least photos of people in the restrooms.

there are lots of bad things that have been done. Some of them are a learning curve situation, some of them just are an editing/deleting issue, and others are just a photographer character issue.

I use to do that for photos for my photography classes.

I just need to mess with it one night; I'm pretty elctronicly inclined. Even more so with cameras. I just haven't taken any pictures like this with the didgy yet. Just the Canon SLR I use to use.

I honestly don't know if you can "practice" or "prepare" for taking photos in a club environment.

I don't think that even the most professional photographer could take perfect pictures in a club setting without any direct experience. It's just one of those things that you're not going to become good at unless you actually get out there and do it.

Can't really practice taking any photos unless it's still life i guess. Or potrait. But not movement; especially with wild and crazy unpredictable lighting. I think it all comes with just talent for photography. The eye of the beholder and all.

What? I wasn't talking about anyone in particular, just stating a fact.

All of the photographers have, at one point or another, taken really good shots. I think it's great that we can get a cycle of different people come thru and see all their perspective on the party - because really, photography shows a lot about a person sometimes

You could always go to clubs that do allow cameras and get a feel for what it's like to take pictures at a club.

Shinin*Sta
2005-03-03, 11:52 PM
i typically use one particular setting that i've found works every time for people shots and then experiment with crowd and club shots. that way, i can delete the really bad experimental shots and still have plenty to post. it is much more difficult to take club shots than random shots in the dark. it's all about the lighting and the amount of open space... five was pretty easy to take good shots in - and whistle (shampoo), too. nation seems to be the most difficult, but i'm getting it down. one day i'm going to go in there with a notepad and not drink (*gasp* i know, right?) and take multiple pix of the same thing and write down the settings i had my camera on (just kind of a study, i guess) and do that all niight, getting different angles on everything. the difference between the camera display and how it will look when it's posted is huge.

and, yeah, everyone who knows me who's thinking there's no way in hell i'll make it a whole night without drinking - you're right, i'll just have one :chug:

Justin Time

I don't think it will be that hard to take photos in a club, been there done that with a disposable....try that!!!! I'm just looking for an oportunity to give back to buzzlife, and actually do something with my photography skills that I have been neglecting.

Emily - Of coarse every picture you take you don't have to post. I mean, who actually takes a perfect picture everytime? It all depends on multiple factors. The subject your taking a picture of, you taking the pictures, people in the back ground, lights in the background.

It's all about the eye of the beholder.

ShininSta - Multiple setting. Yes, that's a great idea, but instead of trying to remember them by writing them down, set multiple profiles with diff setting on your camera for quick easy change for diff environments. If you camera allows for you set up profiles. Two drink tickets sounds good to me, that's all I need if I want to focus and take non-drunk pictures!!! LOL

Invest in LOTS of batteries and a large Compact Flash card. Then on your first night out just try to take lots of photos trying different settings, angles, distances and see what works. Non stop flash photography drains most people's batteries much faster than they would expect.

i know when i take pictures of whatever event .. i use a 1m flashcard.. and typical fill it up.. well not all teh way but a big portion.. especialy if i take videos..

a lot of it is that i take a lot of pictures of whatever im taking pictures of.. then when i go back to post i pic the best of each attempted shot..

instead of investing in LOTS of batteries.. in vest a two sets of re-chargable.. may be more when ya first buy them but then you're set for quit a bit : )

best re-chargables that i've seen are these Panasonics Pro + 2100 mah these things last forever.. well compared to some otheres i've used :D

if my work ordered rechargables i might be tempted to do the same..

but regular batteries just arent worth it when it comes to digital cameras.. at least when i've used regular batteries.. they are basicaly dead after the night is over. 1 event.. 1 set of batteries.. :noway:

I am the expert on all things to do with cameras and batteries.

I have taken photos at well over 200 events in the last couple years, and I have used the same 2 sets of 4 rechargable batteries the entire time. Not only did I save hundreds upon hundreds of dollars by doing this, but the rechargables last about 3 times longer than regular ones anyway. When I have a set of rechargable batteries FULLY charged I have absolutely no worries that they might die no matter how many pictures I take.

I got mine at RadioShack.

Make sure the batteries are NiMH and then get the ones with the highest Milliamp reading, typically 1600-2200. The higher the number, the longer the charge will hold between rechargings.

RAMIRO

instead of investing in LOTS of batteries.. in vest a two sets of re-chargable

I meant LOTS of re-chargeable batteries.

My newest cameras don't even take regular batteries - not an option. But I have 7 re-chargeables per camera, so I don't have to worry about economizing on shots - which is especially good when you want to try new settings and experiment with shots. Some of my best shots I would never have taken if I was worried that I was down to my last 10 shots or something.

Emily
2005-03-04, 07:38 PM
My camera doesn't take regular batteries either. It came with one re-chargable battery. I bought two more on ebay (though, I can't remember where i put the second one I bought). One usually last for one night, but I bring along an extra just in case. I just make sure they're both charged before I go anywhere. My camera also shuts itself off after a short time of no activity... so that keeps it from wasting the battery.
