hey all, I am looking for some dj talent to donate their time and skillz...Otakon is an anime convention held every year in Baltimore md!
I provide a fun dance/rave fri and sat night for any members to attend (member = person who bought admission to the con). We Do Not allow ppl off the street to attend. We prohibit that because it lets us function as a club and get around many laws in Baltimore city. We get at least 8-9 hundred ppl cycling through the dance each night (probably more). I have two rooms currently. Typically I only choose djs that do more progressive, "happy" music because that is what the crowd likes (usually anything but DnB since it can be a little hard sometimes). Although this past year I had Moody Moore out for dnb and it went great! I am totally going to have her back again (if she is willing), and some more dnb talent, hopefully! (get my hint?).
Now to tell you about how to be a dj at Otakon...
Each year I require a potential dj to submit a demo (yes, including anyone who may return). I try to be as fair as possible in my choices. When I listen to your demo I am not only listening for skill but track selection as well. If you are able to throw in some anime remixes I do favor those who can, simply because it is an anime convention and ppl Love to hear anime music at the rave, or at least a remix/sample. One major point you must understand is that I Cannot pay you. This convention is put on by volunteers and we are non-profit, which means we technically are not allowed to pay you for your services. However, there is some form of compensation.
Now for specifics on how to become a dj...if you are interested:
I will need from you, a cd or md with your demo on it. I know that many of you have links to a web site to check a demo out. Unfortunately I am very short on time and it will be easier for me to listen to a cd or md in my car or on my lap top at work. So, I will need each of you, who are still interested in spinning, to send me a cd or md of your demo with a typed bio no more than 9 sentences to the following addy:
Hope Heiderscheidt
4221 doris ave
Baltimore md 21225
If you have further questions please email otakon_djs@yahoo.com
please try to have all demos to my by the end of March. thankx!!!
****Please do not respond to this thread only. I am very short on time usually and I only check my email on a daily basis. please email me privately if you are interested, or just send me a demo in the mail! thankx!!!
