ok, i bought some new music on friday night....
The Freestylers – fabriclive 19…if you like rockin ass bassline breaks, then this mix is 100% definitely for you. The cd starts off with something a little different then the tracklisting states, but still works. It says the first track is the deekline and wizard mix of boomblast (by the freestylers)..but the intro is different. It ends up going into the deekline/wizard mix..but who knows. Im not the biggest fan of some of the tracks on here, but for the most part, it’s pretty damn decent. My favorite track on the cd is a song called bandwagon 92s, by enzyme. It spoofs john b’s “bandwagon ploos”, only changes the words during the cell phone call, and then goes into some straight up oldskool hardcore. And no mix is complete without the the timo maas remix of azzido da bass’s “doom’s night”. Seriously. But it seems to work on this mix really really well, so it is approved. Some of the phrasing is a little wack, because I hate when dj’s mix through buildups, and then cut it..but the tracklisting is really hot, so I spose I can overlook it. Tracks of highlight: scam – killa, napt – line like this, scam – put your hands up, freestylers – warrior charge (breakfastaz mix), breakfastaz – kick it, enzyme – bandwagon 92s, breakfastaz – spit it out, scam – acid love, drumattic twins – rock steady, and napt – take me away 2004.
Soul of Man – Y4K: Breakin in the house…funky, ploddy, trippy, GREAT!. The track selection on this cd is phenomenal…yet something about it irks me. The way some of this cd is mixed blows me. And not in a way I would appreciate. As with the freestylers cd, some of the tracks are mixed through buildups, and that annoys the living shit out of me. And halfway thru this cd, they let their own remix of the plump dj’s “creepshow” (which I played the living crap out of all last year) just end so they can play the new killa-fly mash up. Why not actually wait and mix it? I dunno….if you can look past some of the wack phrasing, then you will royally enjoy this trip. Tracks of highlight: d.ramirez – venus & mars (d.ramirez and meat katie remix), lee coombs and dylan rhymes – alright all night, plump dj’s – creepshow (soul of man mix), Christian j and Dylan rhymes – party people, soul of man vs. basement jaxx – killa fly, meat katie andelite force – the fabulous mint 400 (MY FAVORITE TRACK OF THE MOMENT!), plump dj’s – bullet train.
Circus & Chibuku Present Yousef & Krafty Kuts: Disc 2 – Krafty Kuts…wow. That is the best word to describe this mix. Fucking insane from start to finish, with only one track that I don’t like on it. more scratching, tricks, you name it then some people might like, but fuck em. This shit is unfuckingbelievable. His extremely clever use of acapellas shines through hardcore on this mix, as he overlaps shit that you never would think would go together, and makes it work like it was made that way. If you like funky ass music, check this out. You will not be disappointed in ANY way. Even local boys fort knox five are represented well on this joint. Tracks of highlight (and there’s a lot): fort knox five – brazillian hipster / freq nasty – Brooklyn to brighton a capella laid over top, parliament, krafty kuts, a-skillz & real elements – flashlight, gary numan – me, felix the housecat – silver screen, splitloop – hot rock boy w/ the a capella of drumattic twins “feelin kinda strange” over top…FUCKING SICK!!!! , school of thought – funky town, freestylers – punks (krafty kuts mix), krafty kuts – uptight. Really, every track on this mix is good. Even played out shit like the plump dj’s mix of the freestylers “push up”, and JDS’s “purple funky monkey” are made fresh by the scratch tricks he does. DEFINITELY worth the money.
Hope this helps some of you.
