I bought a used POS latop for 20 bucks from work a while back for the single purpose of sitting in top of my stereo in my room so I can tune in to Shoutcast and sleep listening to ambient tunes!
Am i strange because of this? Please tell me I'm not the only one....
Right now DI's Ambient is totally owning me -- and putting me to sleep zzzzZZZzzZZzzzz...

That's not weird at all. If I have problems sleeping, I listen to something downtempo or pop in a classical CD.

I normally can't sleep to music, but when I do it's usually something like chilled out progressive... sometimes radiohead and the like but that usually isn't very good for sleeping

I've had my window open for about 6 months now, I find that the sound of passing cars/random other sounds put me to sleep a-ok. I can't fall asleep in dead silence.
The BEST thing to fall asleep to, though, is thunderstorms. As violent as they may be outside, I really can't think of anything more tranquil than lying in your bed listening to a good thunderstorm. It's just so peaceful, at least to me.
If neither is happening, I normally turn on the radio to a rock station. I can fall asleep to pretty much any kind of music.

I agree... but theres always some kind of noise going on in my house so usually even when everything is off I still have something to keep me asleep (maybe thats why I sleep as long as I do)

I like quiet piano. I've got some tracks from various anime soundtracks that are knockout (literally). Also, chillout like Sigur Ros, sometimes Thievery Corp, Loreena McKennitt, Moby, <3 Dido <3... anything relaxing, really

Have you listened to the album leaf? theyre a little more instrumental rock but still REALLY chill.. i saw them open for sigur ros and they use alot of *real-life* sounds overlayed with their music.. like cars driving by on rainy roads ahhh.. ..pleasant..

I sleep to drone zone whenever possible... i also have really light chimes which hang on my nightstand and make a wonderful ambient and very soft noise as I move around during the night... i find that my dreams seem to journey into unknown terrotory when I have this sort of input during sleep... sometimes I like to sleep only listening to solo tabla or other Indian Classical Music... this takes me into hole other dimensions of REM sleep... i also think this can alter your brain chemistry if you find something that seems to allow you to have more REM sleep then your brain has more time for the production of seratonin... it is all very interesting... the dreamworld ... the sleep world... the brain chemistry world... this could be a really good thread if we dig into it a bit deeper...

i've been trying to work on another mix, i love to spin ambient
but never get the chance to spin it out unfortunately. If I can
finish another one, i'll be sure to post it. A friend who actually
has the one i finished, goes to sleep to it often, good for lucid
dreamstates. : ) -&rew

Try Hooverphonic.............also, if you have trouble sleeping, you could try Ambien. My doctor put me on that a couple of months ago.....20mg of ambien.....20 minutes later it's impossible to hold your eyes open. It's the 20/20 rule!

I used to sleep to ambient/downtempo shit, like Mushroom Jazz vol. 3 by Mark Farina, or Earth 6, or other shit like that, but then I found that reggae (old shit, like roots style) such as Lee Perry and old Marley worked as well. Then I figured I could sleep to any music, as long as there was music. Now I'm finding myself putting on ragga jungle when I sleep, like Walkingstick's newest mix "A Day in the Life"

Tried both Ambien and Trazadone -- have plenty left over still too. All they did was make me hungover the next day -- albeit they knocked me the hell out.
Found best thing was to change the workout routine (mainly, start goin to the freakin gym) and limit use of bed to sleeping only (no tv/movies/video games)
Still sleep best when i have some sorta ambient goin.
