Tore down the wall today
Rosy paint chips and plaster now
litter my mind.
Searching for you again
The faint lilt of your laughter
serves as my guide.
Crawling on dusty beams
The framework of a personal heaven
long since died.
Rusty nails and rotten wood
Remnants of our innocence
stolen in the night.
Distinctions in time fading
Once again we meet in the treehouse
of my mind.
Say hello to Lisa for me.

Rocks dropping from the sky above into the lagoon of memory
causing ripples to spread from one point to the far reaches
somewhere in that unsettlement pictures of her begin to emerge
from the depths and reaches of places not forgotten but left behind
the sunrise that was her smile and the gentle ways of her eyes
the flowers that were radiating their scent off her preciously smooth skin
echoing once again throughout the corridors of his mind
better days that might have been the best but now nothing more
than the untouchable past that that exists as a feature art exhibit
of what beauty in one of it's most human forms can possibly be
with all the colors of autumn reflecting the sun in their magnificent way
he misses her most of all, when autumn leaves start to fall
signaling the nights are only getting colder from here on out
on this prewinter moment he caught a memory of her
and then the sky as it were just began to fall
causing things buried to once again be discovered
just more lost moments that he wished could have lasted forever

In a land far away and a long time ago
a poet stricken with love concluded
that feelings and the like were a flaw
as he watched someone who lit up his world
(the darkness that he felt constant imprisoned in)
choose the other path in the fork
the one that lead away from him
and to the sky of another man's world
his heart felt numb
his chest felt empty
his head swirled about
plunging himself into drink
and other self destructive indulgences
nowhere was a cure found
not for the hurt he felt
in a flash of pre modern brilliance
the cure for his heart was the destruction of it
with a knife that reflected the moonlight
he cut open his chest and ripped his own heart out
so that henceforth emotion and him would be no more
it was after that moment that he passed on
for without emotion one cannot live

wow
hurt much?
yeah
a favor please
remind me never to trust again
that would be great
thanks
i thought i had mastered this fucked up game
heartache
suffering
pain
none of it was new to me
it's only when your faith in humanity becomes tested
and fairness isn't an option
that you start to see
there are no rules to this game
you can lose at any time
i could've sworn this one was going to be easy
i should've known it never is
my only regret is that I didn't start over sooner
ahh....naivety at its best

Cliff? He's a writer.
Me? I'm just a venter.
Waiting every moment for this life to figure out
what am I to do when I can't understand?
all I see is blind and reluctant pain
wherever I look I begin to stumble
Is there anything for me?
As I wish for happiness
My sorrow's in do I drown
For what life can be when it is so gone?
Waiting for the want of love
for life to continue
crushed will be the nights for long
but only will can succeed
I wished for you
and all I got was a wait
now my world is hanging by a thread
and hatred is oh so close
trying like a rose to be full
I feel my mind collapsing
folding into a desire for suffering
I want to be saved
I don't want to be saved
by you I wish for the stars
by me I wish for one last smile
but the life is covering me
with sole posession of my heart
I let it go to you
you sewed it to a thread
now I am lost
and you are found
what else can I do to make this happen
when all I get is so cold
waiting for this want

lost in confusion pain takes hold,
its been forever since ive felt whole,
stuck in this body stuck with this soul,
i lay down my hand im done i fold,
the future is bleek, for as far as I see,
there is no telling what this life holds for me,
I rebel against the feelings that make me HUMAN,
as i stand upon this ugly ruin,
One day soon will be the end of our begining,
the whole world destroyed its really fucking sickining.

whether you or i
did it, i was convinced
this was different
that this land would
issue in the new to last
a lifetime
and sipping excitement
for little over thirty
but you are
every one else and
so am i

as i relax under the shade of this willow,
I gaze up as bewildered as when i began this life,
wondering what could be, and what could not,
Is it as chaotic as i imagine?
the answers lie further buried in the depths of an empty void,
a space so drawn out that there is no end,
full of just plain ordinary open space,
i linger on this thought for as long as possible,
until imaginations fill this void,
For we may never know whats above and beyond.

he remembers the first day he saw her
it was a late night in winters early cycle
november or december
he doesn't quite remember
but the one thing he did was the smile
that on the empty streets of a numbing downtown
took the best lighted spot on center stage
he remembers the first time they met
not that cold winter day of last verse
but on the dancefloor in the dark
wandering lost and alone he found solace
in someone who talked his language
the one without words
where it's possible to make love
without ever making physical contact
poetry in motion
(many may never understand)
he remembers the last time he saw her
her smile the same sunshine as years ago
and his heart was definitely thinking to itself
"please don't go"
yet his mouth stayed that of silence
for fear of pushing something so beautiful
farther away
more than likely she will never know
just how much he finds the best of life
in the rare but never dull moments with her

one day we'll sit on fine white powder
we'll let it sift through our fingers and toes like a sand shower
so warm it will be like a long lasting embrace
the breeze will feel like the little kisses i put on your face
we'll float in euphoric trips
of places we let our minds slip
reality will melt in to our dreams
a state of mind lingering on sunbeams
and i will fall in love with you more
like i have done so many times before

Different Kinda Night
I feel strange tonight,
Something isn’t right,
I doubt my ability,
To cope with reality.
I’m restless but I’m tired,
I’m sleepy but I’m wired,
I wonder what is going on,
I’m trying to remain strong.
I feel empty and unsure,
I am alone and insecure,
Part of me doesn’t know,
What to do or where to go.
Ah, the complex life I live,
I’ve given all I can give,
I hope this feeling will go away,
So I can have a regular day.

filled with the quiet anger of pain,
I hold it in and bottle it up in vein,
Never releasing the emotions I feel,
until its to late, what I have done is real,
for I did not think twice not once,
the feeling of anger hit be so blunt,
my eyes are soggy for tears have fallen,
so has my heart lost and forgotten,

time came and time went
life happened and life was spent
at the exspense of you
and others too
but you werent watching things
your actions spiraled rings
repeating and deleting
over and over
plucked leaves fell from clovers
and you didnt see shit
I think it was then your real was split
down fell reality in flakes
piles of complex figuring it makes
where one item comes by
apt to blow them and off they fly
in all directions
causing infections
in everyone and thing they infect
broken lives shatter more and reflect
what a catastrophe
that you didnt see
and i heard someone say,
"youre gonna be okay.
you see wrong and pain
somone else's mistake doesnt have to stain.
if you remember the hurting times
been crushed by love crimes
dont fly at half mast
all things come to pass."
but i think not all things go away
when mishaps cause you to stray
they change you forever
its not like a lever
where one minute its there
the next its nowhere
all my past stays within me
telling history like age rings in a tree
maybe building character and personality
wisdom and frailty
but whatever its done, believe me
these things do not leave me~

this is a piece of a much longer story that i'm playing around with writing... (i don't know dick about the military, so i'm just kind of faking it until i can do some research) (also, this is super-first-draft status, basically just trying to get from plot-point to plot-point as quickly as possible)
April, 2003.
6 Months ago, when Dave was teaching his students about Babylon in World History I, he never would have imagined he'd be charged with conquering the ancient city himself. But here he was, currently the sole ruler of one of the birth places of civilization. Him and his squad, at least.
He was now right up there with Alexander the Great, Nebuchednezzer and Hamurabi. Though, he didn't have to fight nearly as hard to do it. In fact, they didn't have to fight at all. The place was a ghost town when they got there.
Him, Private Clifton and Private Shaw were currently in the main hall of Saddam's palace, setting up HQ. The rest of his men were sweeping the hallways, making sure that there weren't any traps or ambushes left for them.
"You know, this is kind of where all this got started," Dave said, nodding in the direction of Clifton, who was leaning against a wall, drinking some bottled water they'd found, and flipping through his Bible.
"What, the bible? I know Babylon is where the jews were held in bondage," Clifton said, rotely. He wasn't the kind of guy that used terms like 'held in bondage' in a natural way.
"Well, yeah, Babylon. But I'm talking about all this stuff. Wars, Nations, Conflict. Just on the other side of Babylon is where they built the Tower of Babel."
"Aww come on sarge, you believe in that bullshit?" Shaw said.
"Literally? I don't know. But there's something to it. There always is. I mean we're hear, right? This is real. Look out that window over there, you can see the ruins. 3000 years old. There's a lot of history here."
"It's all true, you know, Shaw. Here, I'll find the passage, it's right in the bible," Clifton said.
"Here, it's right here:
"Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.
They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel -because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth."
"This used to be the plain of Shinar, before it turned into a desert." Dave said. He stood up from where he'd been resting and said. "Let's finish up here. Command will be here pretty quick, and I don't want it to look like we've been screwing around here."
"That's some pretty heavy shit, man." Shaw said, while he was lifting some equipment into place.
"They ever find it? Or did we just bomb the shit out of it or something?"
"No, no one's ever found it. They might have gotten it confused with all the ziggurats they had in Babylon though. All this stuff is third hand."
His radio crackled, "Sarge. You better come down and take a look at this."
* * *
Handel met him at the end of the basement hallway. He started explaining as they walked.
"This doesn't look like random looting like the rest of the place. This looks like it was done by real pros. Like they knew what they were getting."
Dave could see daylight and sand filtering in through a huge hole in the ceiling on the far side of the hallway. Someone had exploded in the wall from the outside it looked like. To his left, two thick metal doors were strewn across the floor, the bar that had kept the closed, bent in half. The passageway they had covered was filled with darkness.
"Where does that passage way go?" Dave asked. It looked like it headed out towards the ruins.
"Don't know, we called you as soon as we saw it."
"Did someone check where that hole in the ceiling goes to?"
"Just outside. There are some big truck tire tracks out there, but that's it."
As he approached the passage way, he saw steep steps leading down. Some lights flickered at the bottom, maybe 30 feet down. Something like heiroglyphs covered the walls on the side of the passage, but they didn't look old, they looked new.
In fact, as he looked closer, he could see that the whole passageway was new, made out of concrete. Saddam liked that kind of cheesy, Disneyland stuff. All this real history, and he had to keep replacing it with his own.
But still, there must have been something down there worth stealing.
"Shaw, Clifton, come with me. The rest of you guys finish sweeping the palace and then wait in HQ for orders. Radio if you find anything else interesting."
* * *
"Like I was saying though, sometimes the Bible gets stuff wrong." Dave said, as they kept moving through the hallway. It was really quiet down there when they weren't talking, and it kind of spooked him. He wasn't worried too much about getting ambushed. There weren't even any side hallways or rooms down here. Whatever those guys wanted, they already got. He could see marks on the floor from something heavy getting dragged out of there, probably by the same truck that ripped those doors off.
Clifton kept quiet. He was a fundamentalist, but he wasn't deep into it, and he could respect Dave's knowledge on the subject. "Like, it says they called it Babel, because of the way people talked, you know like, bah bah bah bah. Same reason the Romans called foreigners Barbarians."
"But God didn't confuse the languages until AFTER the tower was already built. This place was called Babel even before that. It means 'Gate to God', in Sumerian. Same as Babylon."
They were probably 100 meters into the tunnel now, which had been sloping downwards the whole time. They had to be getting close to the ruins themselves.
"That's why this city is even here. Because this was where the kings came to talk to their Gods."
They came up to the end of the passageway finally. It ended in a large room, there weren't any lights here. In fact, the electic lights had stopped about 20 feet back, and they'd been using just flash lights. Dave touched the wall. It was cold.
"This is Babylon isn't it?" Shaw said. "The gate to god?"
Dave looked shone his flashlight around. He jumped at something the light flashed on a pile of rubble in the center of the room. Some kind of statue, a snakes head, a lions body. It looked like it had been broken in half.
"Well. This is definitely the old city. And they took something out of here in a hurry." Dave walked up towards the rubble.
"Something that must have been awfully valuable."
