View Full Version : GLOW APOLOGIZES FOR PVD EVENT

Dear Glow patrons,
First and foremost we would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us. It was an unforgettable night, full of energy and great music. We read all the posts on the forums and all the e-mails that you sent us and we would like to take a moment here in order to address the issues. We’re really sorry about the delays at the front door and the inconvenience that they might have caused you. It was the first night at a brand new nightclub that wasn’t ready to open for such a big event.
Honestly we did not want the Paul Van Dyk event to be the first event at our new venue for a couple of reasons that we will mention below.
First of all, you never want your first night to be a massive event. The Fur Nightclub staff and management were not prepared to run the front door efficiently. There were a lot of delays and although we tried to move the line as fast as we could, it was physically impossible to let in so many people in such a short window of time. Doors opened at 9pm. At 10:45 we had only 30 people in line. Almost everyone seemed to arrive at the club at once and the front door staff was overwhelmed. Another issue was the amount of pre-sold tickets. Because it was a rock the vote event, we had to sell most of the tickets online. A Portion of the money was donated to ‘Rock The Vote’, and we could only let up to 200 extra paying people in after midnight. We know that many of you thought that we were letting random people in without tickets, but we were just taking care of personal friends and bottle service customers that actually had purchased online tickets as well.
Bottom line here is that there is no excuse for what happened at the front door. Everyone was finally in by 2:00am, but we know that a lot of you had to wait for a long time. This week, we will sit down with the FUR Nightclub management and we will make sure that everything gets a lot smoother in the weeks to come. The owner of the club spent millions of dollars to create a venue worthy of the GLOW name and experience, and we have spent hours of personal time and plenty of money to make this event happen. We want nothing but the best for GLOW and our loyal patrons. Please accept our apologies and support us in the effort to create the best dance music night on the East Coast.
The future is bright...GLOW.

Still alot of questions ....
1) PVD was an 18+ event at a regularly 21+ club, if the Marco V event is going to be complimentary, what do they do in reagrds to the 18-20 crowd that attended the PVD event.
2)The people that did not get in after hours of waiting ... do they get their money back .....
Im sure it will all be addressed .... just curious

Wow - thanks, in trying to apologize, you in the end blame the people who came to see PVD who showed up with PLEANTY of time before his set started.... Also, thanks for admitting that you were "Taking care of personal friends" because that makes the rest of us that paid the same price for tickets feel so much better. I realize that you want to hook your friends up - but please. When there's a 2+ hour line...
Bottom line here is that there is no excuse for what happened at the front door. Everyone was finally in by 2:00am, but we know that a lot of you had to wait for a long time.
Hmmmm.... Unless they opened up the flood gates & let the 100 or so people behind me in line in at the same time as me - not everyone was finally in by 2:00 am - because I got in after that & the line still hit the end of the block....

Unless you wanted the experience of being a sardine - you didn't miss too much... I had an OK time - but the music was hard to enjoy with people constantly pushing you out of the way as they wandered around the club

I knew that going in, but I had also paid $35 for a ticket and I'm not a rich man so I don't like throwing money down the shitter.
Even though buying a ticket for FUR is exactly that I suppose.

To play devil's advocate here for a moment... I think Glow is doing a decent job trying to make up for what happened. I know we all prefer Cubik way more, but come on, cut them some slack. They're giving away free entry to the Marco V night. Now i'm not a huge fan of him or anything, but that seems rather nice. Plus, I read that Andrew got his money back, after he got in and listened to PVD. That's really unprecedented.
I will probably rarely if ever go back there (there'd have to be someone i really want to see, and since i'm not a huge trance fan, i don't see that happening), but with the amends the promoters are trying to make, I actually have more respect for them than I did before.

It sucked big hairy balls but I have to give it to them for trying to make it right. I don't have the sand to ask for my money back when I did get in and party for a few hours. So I figured I'd just forget fur in the future. But here the nice folks at glow are making it free to give them another chance. That's PLURry. I'll give them another shot. But Eff this up...

Not to mention it's only a partial mix because of the sound system calamities :-) But that's not the point. They're asking for another chance. In the spirit of PLUR, we should do it on their dime. No harm in that right?

Why wouldnt Paul Van Dyk allow his live mixes to be posted? I think there are quite a few of his live sets on quite a few different internet radio sites. Is it going to be mastered to a CD for purchase later?

He wouldn't let that happen. That set was nice, but the system cut out on him too much to produce that. He'd have to chop it up big time.

anybody else snicker as soon as they read that?
i really wanted to see PVD and Tiesto, but didn't go, because of "the glow name." i've heard of a ton of people who did the same.

For what it's worth (and I'm in no way defending anything that went wrong or any action that slighted any patron), it's not like this sort of thing never happened at a major international club opening somewhere else. Here are some anecdotes:
NYC:
1) Avalon grand opening: people stood in line for up to three hours. Line was around two city blocks. Club was empty on the inside. Bouncers were extorting money from people to get in. Saeed and Palash couldn't get in for a while and they were supposed to be spinning that night.
2) First few Made Events parties at Roxy with PvD, several hours wait. Worst was Feb of last year. People stood in line for over three hours in the middle of winter with prepurchased tix. Non-tix holders essentially walked right in. Club filled to capacity and peeps were turned away with tix after standing in the cold, even if they flew in from Europe. Bouncers extorted money.
3) Maybe I'm beating a dead horse, but have any of you guys ever seen PvD at Twilo? Doors shut at 5am and people still standing from 1am till 9am. Place was so packed that people were LITERALLY sitting on top of people in the bleachers, complete strangers at that. Entire groups of people sitting on the bleachers arbitrarily tossed out by bouncers so that they could fit new people in, take their money and boot them out 30 mins later. Guess what happens if you put your hands in your pockets or momentarily closed your eyes while seated? You got kicked out.
Miami:
1) Crobar. Enough said.
2) I'm not even going to bother listing the Gestapo-like door policies of some lounges/clubs over the years. It would take up the whole page. I've seen people turned away because they were wearing Kenneth Cole loafers and not Prada ones.
I could list more examples in NYC and Miami, but for the sake of brevity, let's just say that it's common for clubs/lounges to build hype by intentionally holding up the line or to mistreat patrons. What happened at FUR is likely more the result of a sudden rush of people and the greed of a few bad apples rather than that of Glow, who have worked hard to take care of patrons in the past. Many other promotion companies in places like NYC would take your money and tell you that you're SOL, if they even bothered personally responding to any complaints. While things are starting to change a bit in NYC and Miami (mostly because there are so many competing clubs now that customer retention is suddenly a consideration), it is still not uncommon for stuff like this to happen. At least you guys didn't have to pay for $70 tix to see a DJ like some of us were forced to do in NYC (and still stand in line for hours in the cold while non-tix holders walked in). Let's hope that this is a learning experience for everyone.

well really, i guess the only way to really see if they're actually serious in their promises is by watching how the future nights turn out; if they're honestly committed to pleasing their patrons and throwing a good party, they'll figure out what went wrong and work their asses off to prevent it. the ticket refund is a good start. who knows, maybe this will make a change for the better, but in either case, words are just words until they're acted or not acted upon. time will tell

I agree that it's cool they are trying to make up for it - but if I had such a horrible experience, why would I WANT to go back? It's just like in class action lawsuits against the manufacturers who created breats implants that broke, the plantiffs got..... a free set of implants! They still had to pay to get them implanted again if thiers broke & they wanted another chance at big-boobedom... I went, I had a bad experience, and I now have the opportunity to go have ANOTHER bad experience...
I know this is being incredibally cynical, and it's possible that they will have changed many of the problems that occured at PVD & that Marco V won't suck as much - but what if they haven't? And who gets put at the bottom of the totem pole there? People who paid to get in that night, the people that are getting in free from PVD or "personal friends".....?

I feel that GLOW messed up royally but... it is only a minor setback and I'm sure that they want what's in their best interest... from my recent observations - they are moving in a positive direction... so... the patrons will be returning.. slowly but surely, or at least gaining new ones. I was quite upset but you can only stay mad so long and there is no point in writing a party off completely. In my opinion they set their expectations too high for the first party which set it on a destructive spiral downward. PVD definately should have been playing the 3rd week, after a big dj the week previous, and prior to that the residents. Good luck to GLOW in hopes for a better party going experience in the near future.

Sure was.
Got there at 11:15, got in at 1:00. Was really pissed about the line. REALLY PISSED. I didn't enjoy myself that much, and in fact I paid $10 for an RBV that was half the size of the ones I get at Cubik (for $9). However, it was cool to see a new club, so the night wasn't all bad.
But my point is, I'm just surprised at how far Glow is going to make it up to everyone, and as long as they make good on what they say, I commend them for their efforts.

jesus, that's really sad. i think i officially took a little step back from nightclubs. i never want to accept being treated with disrespect like that, and be degraded to the point where your judged based on how expensive your fucking clothes are.
i'm sure they think it's "elite" and maybe even "sophisticated," but it's just sad how primitive they are, sticking out their chests and brandishing shiny rocks like they were back in the jungle. it's ugly as shit to see a person reduced that much.
on a funnier note, i bet you could go back a few thousand years and see some jungle dude walkin around wearing the shiniest rock he can find on his dirty skin, very happy in the belief that he is now sophisticated and elite......and who knows, might even have magical powers now...

Where-ever you go your going to have good and bad experiences .... the thing is with Glow its become a regular occurence, going back to the days at Insomnia. It just comes down to management and their management has proved otherwise inadequate in providing us with a superior clubbing experience.
Im still going to be that guy who guys to see his favorite DJs when they are in town, even if I have to get there 3 hours in advance to make sure I never live through a debacle like that again.

Um I had a blast. Wasn't a big fan of the main trance room or whatever. Just 1 guyz with lights there who's a great dancer. There were a mix of heads up in there that new how to throw down and went for the music and others that were just doing the normal night at the roxbury nod Ur head thing. I personally liked the hip hop room. There were plenty of hawt ass women there. I mean a fukking abundance of hawtness. I'm glad I grinded with alot of them. Will have to call the 1's who I remember. There was this 1 that was a dancer *coughstrippercough* now she just made the night very interesting:) Really need to become a better listener.*sigh* :catalyst: Other than the drinks were tiny there was absolute no waiting issue and the bouncers and everyone were nice. Um did I mention the fine ass women cause there were lots of them. Thanx to the beautiful ladies I had a great night. As fo the music eh like I said the hip hop room was my favorite. Don't know if I'll go to the free event or not yet.
