i was surprised not to see any comments about john b's album in:transit...

i have to say i was very surprised when i heard it...very different. i don't much care for electroclash, but i have to say he makes a pretty good case for it. and the bulk of the album was hard as hell! all in all, i liked it - definitely some great tracks.

anyway, i was wondering what the rest of you thought about it.

Take Me Home - funny lyrics (screw me at night and screw me in the morning
im a sex addict like "me so horny") - good grooves. i wouldnt spin it, but i liek it

Vampire Eyes - BADASS those drums represent complete ownage. good bass. love it and would spin it.

Broken Language - retarded sick track. bass doesnt get phatter than that my friends, the vocals really contribute to the vibe on this one

Mercury Skies - good track, good drums, and enough depth to it to make you feel it

Faith In Me - not a bad track.. pretty good drums. this is one I *might* spin depending on my mood.
it's good.

One Way - more vocals adding to the track on this one. more drummy goodness. coming thru with the bass as well, once again.

All in all I gotta say "right the fuck on" to John B for this LP. IMO Vampire Eyes and Broken Language alone make this LP worth the buy.. they are just so fucking sick. Thanks for reminding me about this, Method.. I really need to pick up this LP soon

yea! my thoughts exactly!

my favorite line in "take me home" is: "that's my bellybutton, genius". i laughed so hard i almost ran off the road when i heard that the first time...

i thought broken language was fucking awesome!!! hard, deep, complex...perfect.

i really like "rinse it out proppa" a LOT. gotta give it to him for pulling off a "bassline" that spans 3 octaves.

i was surprised when i didn't see any of the tracks off this album in the "track of the year" thread, but i hadn't heard a lot of the ones other people were nominating, so i decided to stay out of it b/c of my relative ignorance.

the only thing innovative imo is the electroclash...the harder shit sounds way generic. not to say that i like the electroclash anymore, im a bit tired of it..but nobody else is pushing it, and he seems to be evolving somewhat. I did like 2 of the tunes on there, from what i recall.

I like in:transit, not quite as much as brainstorm. About a year ago i was all about electroclash, and John B at cubik was great, but lately i'm kinda burnt out on electroclash.

yea, i never liked electroclash from the getgo honestly. i thought it was a really crappy followup to trance, and i knew it was destined to be a short-lived fad (how much lasting appeal does "pump me full of cum" really have?). "innovations" that involve a reduction in complexity usually are short lived.

i dont agree. there is definitely such a thing as too complex. Often when a form of music becomes overly complex and saturated, people have a tendency to look at more minimal approaches. Take the whole virus/ram/no uturn transition of the second half of the 90's. The whole amen thing pretty much burnt out people's ears, so in comes techstep, delivered subtly as opposed to complex. Same deal with neurofunk now, minimalistic and deep as a contrast to the bigbeat dancefloor stuff thats getting pumped out of England.

The vibe John B is pushing with his electroclash offers a new perspective to anything out there, may it be likeable or not. Its definitely getting a bit stale, unless he finds a way to make it into a totally new and different concept altogether. Be that as it may, he is still being somewhat innovative.

are you all kidding about vampire eyes? Generic drum & bass trash... i was really digging the album up to sight beyond then it went into the dreary fart-y bass crap and i totally lost interest..

ZEN & G-Dub can lay down some SICK BEATS!!!! We All know that Twisted is not a one dimensional producer...he doesn't stray from his sound ALOT but he does. Take.."Pony Pleasure" for example. THATS HIM SINGING!!! Great Tune BTW......um

that's true - there is a cycle of tearing things down, doing some things differently and building upon those innovations again.

I slept on this album... wish I didn't... so I borrow it until my copy comes in...

anyway, I like the whole album... I spin all most everything from it... even Take me home... though I only play that for the 80s/90s/synth pop crowd (who have no idea what DnB is)... even put it on a mix of the sort...

This is the best album of the year, followed closely by High Contrast's 'High Society.'

John B is one of the main reasons I'm still into DnB. This man always keeps it fresh and sticks with a sound he's feeling, not that the majority of the scene is into.

Do Not Sleep on this album!!! :wickity:
