me personally, i'm more excited about the metalheadz night. i'm older, not as angry as i once was.... and the tunes tech itch & dylan play as of late are just organized noise to me

Tech Itch is engineering for Goldie, so there may be some overlap. Plus Dylan might play more Break + Silent Witness tunes than Goldie or Photek would.
I like Break + Silent Witness tunes.

heh I thought it was just me...
I am looking forward to MDZ 04 a whole lot. Tech Itch has changed his sound a bit in the last few yeas, and gone further away from groove and more into , I guess its that whole "meatmarket animal organs and blood" image they're pushing.
I dig groove beats and melody in my D&B contrasted by harder drums... but I am digging that new track by Hive "Krush"... :raveon:

you old fogey! next thing you know you are going to be telling us to turn down that damned techno music! lol
personally i would rather see tech itch and dylan b/c they are making the music i am most into right now.
however, goldie and photek are proven as talented legends in the realm of Drum and Bass, so it would indeed be a cool experience to check them out.
but like i said, for me tech itch and dylan is the night that i truly dont want to miss. but damn, i sure would leave to see the metalheadz tour. it's a toughie. my advice is go to both.

are you serious? there's no question about it - the goldie/photek night will be just sick - can't wait for this shit - bring it on. i am very interested in seeing photek after recently catching his (somewhat) disappointing set at sonar. sure, he played/mixed well and had the crowd going, but when he played at sonar a couple of weeks ago, it just wasn't the photek that i went to hear - ya know? so i am curious to see how he drops it this week alongside the Goldicus.... kind of a funny/strange comparison to make because NONE of them are actually 'dj's' in the strict sense, that's not how they are known/got their name - but still goldie is the don and will have all the badman dubs as well as some of his own exclusives and no one can mess with the rupert, even when he is having a wobbly, tech-y, dancefloor cheese type of night. my money is on this friday for sure, hands down.

warning.. here comes the hate. :redlight:
im seriously not psyched at all for either of these nights. goldie will have some great tracks to play, no doubt, but he'll clang them out all night and we all know this is true. photek will probably play some great shit for about 45 minutes and then drop ten dillinja tunes back to back. i love photek's production but have been disappointed by his live performances too often to get excited for it anymore. and goldie just seems to be coasting on his fame alone... (thought i admittedly have not yet heard the new album).
dylan and tech itch i have fewer complaints about. their production is on top of things for their genre, though to the untrained or disinterested ear a lot of it is gonna sound the same. my problem with this is simply that they are overexposed. dylan and tech itch are here all the time. there is so much more talent out there, even big name talent, that plays the same vein that has never come through here, or at least not recently: b-key, facs, loxy, ink, d.kay, usual suspects, raiden, etc. i'd be way more interested in seeing someone new (and i won't even begin to mention new djs/producers to see, the list is just too long). these two, dylan and tech itch, will undoubtedly put on a good show, but i almost wish that they weren't here so frequently just so it could drum up a little more excitement when they do come around. overexposure is not a good thing.
there are so many great new djs and producers out there right now. why do i have to keep seeing the same people i've been seeing for the past five years?

anyway...about liam's breakdown of the 2 nights, i definitely agree for the most part. goldie usually clangs it up, but having heard him live twice (once in NYC, and once at Five) in the past year...i'll say that i'm definitely impressed w/how far he's (finally) come as a DJ. his sets were more or less banging, no trainwrecks i could spot. let's not forget the TUNES he has. he's the metalheadz frontman, should you expect anything less than amazing?
i'm hoping that he'll influence Photek to do exactly what Andy talks about...play tunes that i've come to expect from him. less filler/cheese, and more quality. Photek's a pretty damn good DJ, so we'll see what happens.
My original reply made it seem like i'm not excited for Dylan/Tech Itch at all...which isn't true. i catch the both of them whenever they're in town, and i'm hoping it's a bit better than the last time I saw them here.

If goldie puts down a set like his last performance back in december, then its gonna be a tough decision between tech itch and goldie. Although, I am quite a fan of tech itch, and his tracks that he's been putting out over the past couple of years have been ridiculously crazy, and I'd have to say they have been ill as shit....so who knows, I guess we'll all find out in a matter of a couple of weeks
I'm not too worried about dylan putting down a good set, but between the two, tech itch and goldie, they should honestly just book them on the same night, and have them duke it out, I think the floor would be torn to shit by the time they were finished.

It never really seems to be a battle per say when 2 dj's 'tag' or 'VS'. They more or less switch off and on the decks making a set from both of their track selections mixed together.

GOLDIE CRUSHED IT.
dillinja - silver blade
grooverider - kemistry remix
doc scott - drumz 95
and then all the new blame dubs, and the NEW GOLDIE DUBS
crushed it.
my body's sore from brockin all the way out. BOH
100% spot on!
Kemistry RMX and Secret File were probably the highlights for me....and 2 rewinds on Golden Girl??!! I wasn't sold on that one until I heard it loud and that 808 slapped me in the sack over and over.
An unexpected bonus was that I hadn't ever heard Armani perform and he really impressed me (aside from his GQ roboto voice impression). He's got a great voice, great timing and great crowd control.
Anyway, glad to see everyone out dancing and not playing the wallflower role. Then again it was pretty hard not to dance with all that illness coming through the PA and into everyone's soul. Twas a good look for DC. Pat yourselves on the back.

I hope your car made it home un-vomited upon.
Photek redeemed himself on Friday. I wasn't too pleased with his set a few weeks back at Sonar (then again, I'm a liquid girl so that might explain it) but I was totally feeling what he was playing on Friday. I'm also not too good with track ID'ing so all I can say is that I heard some groove and I enjoyed it. Very much.
That was the first time I've seen Goldie. He scared me. I was almost afraid to stand in front of the booth for fear that I might accidentally make eye contact with him. He looks like he could kill someone just by looking in their direction.

talk about some well-rinsed clubbers. was charlie as trashed as esfand? (and where the fuck did you end up finding mr.nafisi anyway?)
Photek's set kicked my ass. I woke up the next day, two hours late for work @ 2 p.m., and put on my pants from the night before...They were still soaked in what I'm pretty sure was sweat. Photek was better than I expected, and I expected a whole shitload. The crowd was haaaaavin it, too. So kickass to see that. I'm at a loss for words, really. It was beyond the Battledome.
I.O.U a carwash, Cakes. :(

i agree 100%.
i arrived in the place to see photek already on the decks and the momentous session building up to a frenzy - people were going nuts! people were jumping up & down and brocking out all over the dancefloor - i saw mikey catch some serious air!! good times were had for real - so glad they decided to have the dons play in the main room.
but i did run into suneel in the bathroom, he didn't seem as pleased about the d&b main room biz as the rest of us - hahahaha - that interaction was the funniest one of the evening. pulling a close second was the trick cup the bartender gave me that had a crack in the side of it and my drink just vanished before my eyes.... doh!
cool to see so many headz up in the place - proper d&b bizness for real. respects.

no disrespect to the other DJs, but i see their names on buzz lineups ALL the time...and almost always in the mainroom.
this was a tour to celebrate 10 YEARS of world class drum&bass. look at how many people came out to see just goldie + photek alone, considering the rest of the lineup were locals (let's be honest, the big crowds don't show up until there's some sort of headliner in the mix). photek + goldie w/armanni & sharpness delivered nothing short of a mainroom performance... and i am MORE than pleased w/the night. i haven't had that much fun @ nation in a long, long time.
