:leon:
Well....this is gonna be a tough one for me and anyone else who has been following the excessive ammount of releases on all labels this year. So many good/great tunes have come out. But I ahev compiled a list that *I THINK* represents My style(s), and overall BANGIN tunes that have rocked us all........

Total Science - Defcom 69: This is a tune that RIPS everything, and combines many styles not normally used by the TS boys. Old school stabs and synbths CRUNCH over a sick b-line and Bangin beats.

Future Prophecies - Dreadlock : What more can I say. This was one of the most anticipated releases of the YEAR! Now that it is seeing the light of day and shelves, I think it has almost lost it's effect. NAH...it's still a HEADCRUSHER!

Bassline Smith & Drumsound - The Odessey : Hate to say it because it has been rinsed to piss by everyone and their mother....but it KILLED On DUB and thats just why it is amazing! Waiting for a Remix? Neh...leave it alone please!

Amit - Roots : This guy sprung up and got signed to Metalheadz of all labels. THis tune is sasty and definatley brings a new spectrum to the dancefloor. BIg tune and I am hopeing for more big things from this guy.

Photek - Baltimore : .......I don't think I need to express anything else. :noway:

Calibre & Singin' Fats - Drop It Down : Such a GREAT tune. Everyone rinsed this and it doesn't get old. Great work from one of the best producers in the game.

D.Kay - My Soul : This is one of the tunes that I couldn't get outta my head and I eventually had to buy. Turns out it was the RIGHT decision. This is one of the best liquid tunes of the year.

THose are the ones that come to mind while I am here in hell...uh...work. Feel free to add and make comments. Peace to all! Ez.......Chris

Yeah...but all the slated releases that I have checked...ARen't Anthem worhty like the rest of these IMO.
Still early...somthing could pop up......I hoppe not..I hate editing posts. lol

OH...the Bacteria remix is Teh Hotness IMO. Not the Pass Gass remix though...ugh. Way to ruin one of my favorite tunes.

i had typed a review of each tune...but lost it. oh well.

i'll just say that i think it's way too early to be picking tune of the year, not to mention that the producers listed are capable of much much more than what's provided on the list.

amit for example, the guy's banging...no doubt, but what has he done that digital+spirit haven't already?

***Junglist***

Not picking the tunes...Just my assesment so far as to what tunes have come out.
I don't really see (sept for a few.) that have yet to come out that would be in this category.

Um...yeah..."Heavy Handed" by Bassline & Drumsound is SICK!!!! Tyrant is Sick! "Pirates"...by Amit.
"Gimmie Your Love" by Total Science is straight Awesome. Calibre's "P.U.R" is unbeliveable. D.Kay just can't stop putting out CLASSICS! But I have just started this to get =peoples brains and gears working to think of tunes....Just my way of livening things up. Tha board seems weak lately.

I dunno, I hope Amit is not sufering from that horrible disease that Nightwalker has.... :traviswork:, you know where every tune sounds the same....?

I do like his stuff tho...

yea too def too early. tune of the year might come out in november :D

re: amit/digi & spirit - i'd say he's more a producer in that vein (huh huh, vein) of d&b. we can have the "what is [producer x] doing that [producer y] didn't do 5,6,7+ years ago?" discussion all day i think... :ponder:

but then we would be old.

"we're showing our age"

yeah, he's def. in that vein...but i can see similarities between his tunes as of late, and tunes like 'waterhouse dub', 'deadline' etc.

dat be what i was talkin 'bout.

interesting, i have all those tunes, but haven't noticed a similarity.

but then again i am really into amit's tunes so my ear is likely to be less judgemental.

I would have to say that my top picks of the year are (in no particular order):

Nu:Tone-Millie's Theme
Roni Size-Strictly Social (NU:Tone RMX)
High Contrast-Racing Green
Commix-Hung Up
Allied Forces-Gather Round

So many big tunes that I'm probably forgetting. It's been a great year so far for the liquid sound.

No Mike.....we don't.
But I see what your saying about the "Waterhouse Dub" sound. Deadline...mmmmmmm....Choclatey Goodness.
Um....I think that the liquid sound is going to be more dominant in peoples minds when voting...Even though...Not really a vote...just TUnes that you all think should be in the running SO FAR!

it's all in the drum programming

amit - pirates
amit - roots
amit - sound warrior

digital and spirit never made drums that sound like these!

darkenetiks
2004-09-14, 09:55 AM
true, the drums are diff (and more crisp on amit's tunes, which i like)

1_Corrupt Souls EP
2_ anything by the hungarian massive (Skc, chris su, flack su, bratwa, and Mindscape) people slept on this guys ....but now everyone is on the wagon .
3_Kaos, karl k, Jae k...most stuff these guys put out is quality IMO .

but again new klute lp is out next month...so it is too early to pick a tune because the klute lp is gonna be the best one this year IMO.

and yes mikey ....amit = digital + spirit ....he was first sign by brillo and digital .

yes, i definitely see the similarities in the overall feel. the deep dark dub vibes are all there, but amit often goes for a more mystical and/or cinematic sound, whereas digital & spirit tend to show their uk hardcore roots more often than not. but yeah, in terms of the general vibe, digital & spirit are the fathers of amit's style.

Woah....I'm not saying that they did it better than the original. The Original is BETTER. Buty it is a GREAT remix, better than the shite remix of Gas Mask.
When HIVE dropped it at FiVE...I wanted to shit myself! The bass is NASTY and they still kept the original funky feel to it.

Yeah you're dead on. Do people knock Commix for drawing from the same pallette as AI and TC1 & Stress Level, and Vice Versa? Not really. I don't think the common dubwise thread should take away from the end result. The only valid criticism of Amit that I have thus far is that some of his percussion sounds the same between tracks, i.e Roots and Village Folk (at least I think thats the halftime side of the CS release) and one other track have that same half tempo feel. But even sounding like himself is excusable considering no one is cutting drums like that but Amit at this point.

And I've said it before, what makes an Amit tune stand on it's own is his use of delay to create space and an environment within a track. Roots and The Tube are prime examples of that technique. The only other similar track by another producer that comes immediately to mind is that Digital tune on Bassbin "Get Away".
