The ONLY time I've heard of "Cubik" using the Cryo freeze system was when like NO ONE was there!!! Including ME! I'd appreciate it if Cubik could bust it out during a HUGE night when EVERYONE is getting down. And there's been plenty of that to go around these days!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe FOR MAURO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would BE SO SICK!!!!!!

They used the Cryo system on the night that was singlehandedly the best night of music in the main room since Cubik has opened... Miss Kittin and Selway were fucking amazing!
not being there for it is nobody's fault but your own...
:stupid:

I saw James Holden in Chicago that weekend. Please, give me a break. Miss kittin. . . OR JAMES HOLDEN! No contest. I was supposed to see PVD that weekend in Chi as well, but I had to forfeit my ticket as I couldn't make it in time. Couldn't make it to the club by 11:00 which was the time they gave you to get in with tickets ordered online. Oh well, I've seen him twice this year already, and going to see him this weekend.

So. . . let's just evaluate the possibilites I was faced with:
1.) stay for miss kittin which I knew very few people were going to go see,
or 2.) Go home to Chicago and see Paul Van Dyk Fri. night, and James Holden Sat. night.
HMMMMM. . . I'm not feeling like I made the wrong decision, even tho I couldn't get in to PVD that weekend, James Holden is BY FAR one of the best DJs in the world. And worth checking out in the hometown of House music.

That's really funny that you would throw James Holden of all people, and PVD into a category like TRANCE. I'm assuming you have been to see both of those DJs LIVE right?? At a MEGA, superclub?? Because their music, ESPECIALLY JAMES HOLDEN, is ANYTHING but TRANCE.
PVD is his own thing, can be trancy most of the time, but is by far and away in a league of his own. Definitely the greatest EDM experience on the planet.
James Holden is TRANCE music. That's fucking hilarious.

progressive... trance... really, it's ultimately the same thing

for what it's worth dude... I'm totally fucking with you (although PVD is most CERTAINLY trance... and I've seen him many times... Miss Kittin was better than any of those times... be it at Twilo, The Armory or Nation)...
I actually know that Holden and I play some of the same records... and while I haven't cared for many of his productions... I can respect anyone who has thrown down some Blackstrobe...
cause Blackstrobe is one of the two best artists producing music over the last year! (the other, naturally, being Teifschwarz)

Right on,
I just don't consider a DJ that busts MAD breaks and EVERY kind of crazy BEAT, be it house, techno, progressive, DnB, or anything else a Trance DJ, even if those beats are thrown together in the most INTENSE, mega BPM fashion.
And James is nothing like trance. ESPECIALLY his NEW stuff. I'm assuming you have Balance 005. I couldn't call it Progressive at times even.
But Miss Kittin BETTER than PVD at Twilo, and I'm pretty sure you've told me you've seen him at the Roxy. That's a BOLD statement. I'm not sure about all that, but I know it's also a matter what a person looks for out of a live EDM set. Better than PVD, EVER??? Man, I just don't know about all of that. We'll have to talk before I can be totally convinced.

Fucking BOLD statement.
Tell you what, if it's true, I'll never miss a Miss Kittin set EVER again.

BTW, I LOVE the funky, psychedelic, ambient elements and textures James Holden has come out with this last year, and spins at his live sets. Totally unique.

yeah... I saw PVD do an extended set at Twilo... back in... fuck... I can't remember the years now... but then... I also HATED Twilo as a club... I'm sure it would be a great space on nights when it wasn't oversold... but the way the club was set up... when it was sold out (or as I'm told they were known to do... OVERsold) the functional area for those who wanted to see the main act was so tiny in the grand scheme of things that sardines are more comfortably packed...
and the last time I saw PVD was at the DC Armory for the last party Ultraworld hosted there...
I'm telling you... Miss Kittin's set was more interesting than any of the sets I've seen from him... ymmv, based off your tastes... but she dropped such a variety of music it was insane...
also, since you speak of Balance 005... you should go to Andalu tomorrow night... Jake Fairley is doing a live set there... one of his tracks, Oshawa, is on Balance 005... you may enjoy it...
(although, for what it's worth... no... I don't own it because I'm opposed to buying commercial DJ mix CDs unless they're something REALLY special such as Ivan Smagghe's "Suck My Deck" which is FUCKING amazing)

Totally with you on the Twilo situation. But that's New York in general. The last time I saw PVD at the Roxy this last Feb. I think, yeah it was off the hook, but as usual, just no room for ANYTHING. And that can TOTALLY ruin, even the most amazing music, sometimes.
Variety is KEY, which is why I love PVD so much, because as he has progressed, i.e. more recent sets, are just MORE and MORE progressive, and even Breaky (if you will).
And yes, I feel the EXACT same way about commercial DJ mixed CDs, which is why I have Balance : ) I fucking LOVE those discs. I own Politics of Dancing, Boundaries of Imagination (Armin throwback, WAY back), Norther Exposures, Mauro's Meta. . something disc, and that's about it. Which is nothing compared to the almost 70 gigs of Electronic music that I own.

I was planning on attending Transit for Tribal, House, and Breaks.
But you've peaked my interest on the Andalu set. Where exactly is that?

heh... I'm going to Transit myself, actually... Jen's spinnin... so of course I'll be there
But Andalu is in DC... 1214 18th St. Right next to Five... actually it's technically directly below Five... full details:

see... then the first things you should learn are that a: I'll fuck with you for the sake of fucking with you... and b: rarely take me seriously... (although I stand by my comments of Miss Kittin being more interesting to me than PVD) :)

It's not about the tracks AT ALL if fact. If you hear some of the sets, or parts of them at least, he busts the mad crazy beats. It's all about movement and energy for me. Albums are one thing, live sets are another, and live DJ sets are yet even another kind of thing for me. I look for the most intense electronic DANCE music I can find. And PVD seems to bring it every time, without fail. I've also had the luxury of catching him on great nights with lots of room to dance (relatively speaking of course). Dancing and making me move and really, become ONE with the music, environment, people, DJ, and myself is what it's all about for me. That's what make a memorable night (or morning).

Basically, he can play ANY "track" or song he wants, it's ALL about how he make me FEEL and move, as well as everyone in the crowd as a whole place.

I'll see you at Transit then, for sure. It's my weekly Wed. night. Although I am still open to the possibility of DC I suppose.
