View Full Version : 2 different admission prices

this came up when i was telling my friends they have to shell out $20 to see me play on friday.
what if there were two admission prices for the club on friday.... one for front room (and patio when applicable) access only, and one for access to the entire club?
say on a night where the mainroom act costs a lot to book, and in turn requires a "special event" admission price, the people who WANT to pay money for that artist pay the $25. more often than not, there are PLENTY of people who want to go, but care nothing about who's playing in the mainroom... why not give them a lower admission price? it's not fair that they have to pay that extra $ for a genre/artist they don't want to see.
"how do you know who has all access vs. who has front room access only?"
easy, hand stamps. at the ticket booth you indicate if you're front room only, or all access...you're then given 1 of 2 different types of ticket (1 color = front room...the other color = all acess). when you hand your ticket to the person @ the door, if you've paid for all access you get your hand stamped.
this would also require nation staff to be @ the mainroom entrance to check for stamps.
all in all...this would probably be more of a headache than it's worth... i'm just posting on behalf of my friends who have to pay $20 to hear me spin.

Not a bad idea. Of course, you can have your friends become buzzboard members and cut that cost in half. With 10 measely posts.

they arent gonna lower the price of admission.
the point in getting you to play is to make people come and make the club money.

in half? yeah right, a $25 event is gonna cost $20...if it was half off thatd be great but this is not the case.
I havent gone to buzz in the past few weeks because the $25 admission is too steep for my budget..and like the person hes talking about..i really dont give a $%#^&@ whos playing in the main room i jus wanna dance..half the time the main room is too crowded anyway to dance..so his idea might have merit if it would mean higher profits for buzzlife.
Cons: addition of staff at door to check for stamps
pros: more people would come, specifically the people who dont wanna hear the main room act but wanna dance.
I guess this would only be a feasable idea if on $25 the attendance is less than it would be on a $15 night

the majority of people coming out to see me play are on the internet about 1/16 as much as i am :afterbuzz:
even with the buzzmember discount on a night like this friday, it's only $5 off the door price... no?

i know they won't lower admission...but this is the "suggestion" forum, no? :P
neko has a good point - don't do the seperate admission price on all nights...but just the "special event" nights. not everybody who goes to cubik thinks that the mainroom act is that special ;)

Talk about a logistical nightmare! The traffic between the front and main room would make that difficult to say the least!

I think it's a good idea...but it might be hard to make work.
I haven't been out in a few months due to the inflated prices of admission and overall lack of interest in talent.
I'd pay $10, if it were $5-10. $25? No fucking way....and above? even more unlikely. I usually only hang out in one section of clubland in the first place. If I go out, I go out to see someone specifically...not randomly like I used to
I'd rather sit at home and hear better tunes and drink beer at half the price.

On a serious note, you have to show your id......you did register with your real name, right?

Suggestion forum, yes. And suggestions here have made changes.
And I agree, there's been numerous times that I've gone to see our awesome locals over the main acts.

I remember john giving dcdnb members reduced admission one time there was a special event, but i'm not sure how much they're going to budge on admission prices.

reduced admission list for DJs = $5 off the door price.
$20 is just plain nuts for people to hear me spin the same records a lot of them own. yanno?

if a policy like this were instituted, you'd have all the 4/4 heads bitching about having to contribute to the front room DJs fees (which I know are much smaller). hell, sometimes i feel like someone should be paying me when i'm stuck in the front before they open the main room. no offense ;)
plus, don't DJs get a certain number of guest & reduced spots?

not sure if i follow what you're saying too much...how would 4/4 heads have to contribute anything outside of what they were already paying?
guest spots = 2
reduced = unlimited (which is cool)
i now remember John Tab doing that one night for dcdnb list people...there was some ridiculous price for the club...but he got a (considerably) reduced list for dcdnb members.
if anything it will bring MORE people to the club.

sorry. that was a little confusing.
you're certainly right. it would definitely bring more people to the club. i was just saying that 4/4 heads who plant themselves in the main room (and don't venture into the front room) would then be justified in asking for a proportionally-reduced "main room only" stamp. and then what about people who wanted to stay in the rubik room only? the patio?
i'm just further elaborating on your "more headache than it's worth" point by trying to point out how stamp-crazy the club would be if all requests like this were honored.
What I want to know in conjunction with this thread is when is there ever going to be another regular admission night? It seems like lately everything has been a special event so they've jacked the prices up. Consequently, I haven't gone the last couple weeks because I haven't really given enough damn to pay the extra money. I think I'm going this week just because a friend is coming up, but normally I wouldn't give two shits about seeing Astral Proj either.

agreed. i'd definitely like to come out and support ya Mikey, this being your Buzz/Cubik debut and all, but i really don't see it happening for $20, let alone $25. it would probably be the latter as i'm currently on a night project and we get off usually somewhere between 11 and 12. zero interest in astral projection i'm afraid. :sadblue:

Actually, Mike, I think this is a really good idea. I usually don't wander out of the front room, unless it's to mingle, so I can see how some of the dedicated (and fucking awesome) junglists or people that are only out to hear their friend play wouldn't need to explore the club.
The question I think that matters most here:
Would the money made on new attendees utilizing this compensate for the people who would no longer continue to pay full price? Sounds like an experiment worth trying to me.

Yeah, I'd be lucky if my friends paid $10 to see me spin. Bastards would probably just ask for the pictures if at all.

I don't know if anyone's said this already, but here are my thoughts on this idea:
It's an awesome idea. I'm sure a bunch of people would be all about getting in cheaper just to dance and whatnot.
On the other hand, special events can sell-out. How would it be financially prudent to offer a cheaper price for people who don't want to see the headliner? A company would make more money offa selling all the full-priced tickets. And it would be a HUGE headache for people making sure that those who paid the lesser price didn't get into the main room anyhow. There are a bunch of people that go out, I'm sure it would be a giant clusterfuck from the start.
