ok first of all, i can go off, but im not gonna.

i for one, love to have a sn that is simply three letters and then repeat said letters after a single quotation mark.

cause apparently, THAT means your hard and you are an EDM grand wizard.

the thing about fla breaks is you have to have that soul, that funk, that groove, and if you dont, then i cant help you and you can dance your ass of to tiesto if you want.

but anyways, lets make an semi intelligent post and maybe you will get more replies.

i wasnt aware there was a genre reffered to commonly as

fla breakBEATS.

maybe im just talking crazy and they need to lock me up or something.

i was under the impression that breakbeats was a more general category including other sub genres.......

but again, shoot me cause im a half wit and i dont know what im talking about.

Ok so I don't know whats the deal with this thread. BUT!! I'll be one to stand up for florida breaks! Thats my shit. You've all heard it, it's that break with the deep ass bass line that makes your momma shake her ass too! No seriously, florida has been a very unique part of the electronic community by adding their very own flava into all of this electronic music. Anyone remember, Teckmaster P.E.B., Dj Magic Mike, 2 Live Crew? All of those are just a few of the florida breaks first pioneer's merging hip-hop to electronic music. Florida Breaks are awesome, they produced sooo many great dj's, Icey, Baby Anne, Gumbee, Huda Hudia, Sandy, Fixx, Hydraulic, Sharaz, just to name a few. Name one other state in the U.S. that has that many dj's. My point. Florida breaks are HOTT. NUFF SAID!!!

Florida breaks are a sub-genre (notice the "florida" is used as an adjective to describe the noun "breaks"

But, speaking of breaks, I just ordered my second shipment of breaks yesterday. To be honest I don't know what category they belong too. I think some are Florida breaks, but I'm not sure. Do FL Breaks have to come from FL? Either way, I picked ones with nice chunky bass lines. Can't wait to get them.

Some of the FL stuff is starting to sound like some of the UK stuff which can be good or bad. Personally I like that FL has its own sound but now there are too many peeps down there trying to sound like something else. Pfffft.

Personally I think Fixxs new releases sound exactly like his Kaleidoscope tracks from back in the day except now they have a heavy bassline attached. I stopped buying his stuff at BE #9 - every record sounds almost identical to the last. Just my 2 cents.

fixx does have a sound that is similar in alot of his tracks.

but they dont sound the same.

i dont buy all his tracks, but i do get a good deal of them.

just cause you drop one track one time, you can still drop another track at a later date...

now if you play fixx after fixx after fixx, that would get annoying i agree.

alot of producers have the same sound, though....i dont know.

no joke.. when I was down in charlotte a few weeks ago, one of the locals gave me this cd. it wasn't just some little jewel case little promo, it had labels and everything. so I check out the back and every song but one was either a fixx original, a remix he did, or a song he did that was remixed by someone else. sorry, but I threw it away.

ya know, I've never had the desire to pick up any Florida breaks. I've listened to a bunch, and they in fact turned me off of breakbeats when I started spinning. I spun tribal house and techno for 2 years, and then I heard the first Plump djs release. I realized what was turning me off w/ the Florida sound. There was no real pioneering going on there. I like the old school sound, but for me the old school was always in the UK. There's something about a mix of psychadelic/technicality/complexity/funk that makes a breaks track for me. I dig some of the hallucination releases though. I heard something about dj three being in town?

Plump DJs are borderlin, Funk Lab is not now, but may have been,, Aquasky vs. Masterblaster is strictly nu-skool, Uber Zone is not even slighty Florida, Crystal Method, the owners of acid breaks?, Chemical Brothers.. pshaw, yeah...

i like florida breaks because they are fun and people like to have fun!! pioneering is great and i def respekt those that do it, but when it comes down to it, i'd rather play a record that will make people move. the only thing i really don't like about the florida sound is how some sounds just get sampled to hell.

:buzz:

That's really what I'm getting at when I talk about pioneering. Originality I guess you could say. I am wrong to generalize, yet from experience, I keep hearing the same thing over and over from the Florida heads. Some stuff is changing now though, and I know this thanks to djs who play it. So, in quoting the only Icey track I own "peace to all the djs...let your hands clap..."

I most definately agree that music that makes people dance and have fun is what it's all about. I'd just like to see this done in unique ways. Maybe it's because I started out as a musician, playing guitar and synthesisers, that I specifically listen for this uniqueness in club music. I have absolutely no complaints though in the world of breaks. I couldn't be happier with some of the releases coming out these days.
I certainly have respect for any dj that is a chill person, and rocks it out. That's what counts.
