i was just discussing this with a friend about how rayne had a portable breathalyzer with her last night, and it occured to us that it would be a really good idea, and very socially responsible if nation made a breathalyzer available for club-goers to use before they leave for the night! it doesn't even have to be forced on anyone, just make it available and make it known, and maybe some people would think twice about going out and getting into their car while intoxicated.

$45 at Radioshack.
I used to own one, I used it at parties in College to make sure people were cool to drive and shit.
But then again we also used it to see who had the highest BAC, and who needed to drink more, haha!

yea.. but i don't know.. maybe if it was in the hands of someone who worked there.. they wouldn't let people come up and mess around like that?

yea that's what i'm saying... just have it at the door when people are leaving

on the one hand, i would favor mandatory breathalyzer tests, well maybe not mandatory, suggested is maybe a better word?
on the other hand, if i happen to be sober i dont want someone shoving a breathalyzer in my face when i leave.

2004-06-18, 09:15 PM
yea i really don't think it should be mandatory. i say just have it there, make it known, and let people come up and use it if they want to.... if it has the chance of saving even one life, or one person the trouble of a drunk driving citation, i think it'd be worth it. besides, it seems like the kind of thing that would score some brownie points with the alcohol control board, or whatever they have in dc.

yea i dont think it should be mandatory either.. just something that maybe people can use to think twice if its really time to get in the car and go
this would create a liability nightmare for nation ownership.

Breathalizers are not 100% accurate either. I think a fun game to play would be:
Let's see who can reach the highest blood/alohol content while still remaining conscious

um wouldnt having that put nation in a legal responsability for people that ended up driving drunk?

you know as well as i do that the drunker one gets, the less responsibility for their own actions they are capable of taking. this method just seems like a way of allowing drunks to be more responsible. i think if nothing else you guys should look into it... maybe do some legal research and see exactly how much liability you would assume....

it's a person's responsibility to be able to control themselves regardless of how much alcohol they intake. if they know they cant control themselves responsibily while under the influence- they shouldnt be drinking in a public place. even if there is a slight chance of liability for nation i dont think they want to risk that.

it's a club, not a daycare.
if you can't handle your shit, then go with someon who will drive you. if you get drunk and turn into a dumbass, that is your own fault, and no establishment is going to want to take responsibility for that. is this making any sense to you at all?

You're sober when you get to the club, right? Ok, you start out with a certain amount of intelligence. If you can't control yourself well enough to stop at a certain point, you should either 1.) not drive or 2.) not drink at all.

i think its a bad idea. from a legal standpoint. however, if you want to go buy yourself a breathalyzer so you can see if you're too drunk to drive, go for it. sometimes when you've had a few drinks its hard to know if you're over the legal limit or not. i know rayne has one, and is bringing it on thursday. i'm sure she'd be happy to let you use it. or just play it safe and use a designated driver.

rayne you drunky! hehe.
i only say that because errikah and i were reminiscing about NYE tonight and we were talking about when rayne and i were taking jaegar shots all day while making the jello shots for the party. we were DDDDONE by the time we even got there, hence why we fell asleep on the couch :D

you know.... fuck you guys. i had a good idea, and everyone's gotta run around crying "liability risk" or some bullshit about how *i* should take responsibility for *myself* when the fact is that it's exactly this kind of reckless disregard (by management) for what people are doing in clubs that keeps getting them shut the fuck down... and on top of that, i'm sure everyone here knows someone who isn't able to control their drinking the way they should... do they stay at home and drink? are they responsible about it? i would put good money on the answer being "no."
i'm sorry i care about my fellow human beings... maybe i shouldn't, since it's plain to see that most of you don't give a fuck about me, or each other. yea, i know rayne, i know she has a breathalyzer.... but not everyone knows someone in the club with one, it just seems like it would be a really nice thing for the club to do... and i honestly don't see how it would be a liability risk if the test is voluntary... maybe they should put some signs up that state what the legal limit to drive is, and a disclaimer saying that the club and promoters take no responsibility for someone's choice to get behind the wheel. it seems to me that such a posting would be all that is required to eliminate any liability risk.
but yea.... you guys can go ahead thinking this is a stupid idea because i came up with it... i'm sure if someone else had done so, you wouldn't be so quick to judge.

If someone can't control their drinking, they have a problem and should either not drink at all, or not go out to a club (and possibly seek counseling).
Clubs have enough to worry about, without having to deal with breathalyzers.
It all boils down to personal responsibility, and if you can't handle that, then your close friends need to intervene.
I don't care WHO came up with the idea...

they aren' tvery accurate. a friend of mine had me use one of those digital ones when i was down in North carolina. I had drank 3 drinks, but it said my BAC was .25

You can get a general idea about how much you can drink and the BAC count that will come from it.
Someone my size can have one drink and teeter on the line of legal limits.

i don't care who came up with the idea either. by the time you're of legal age to drink, you should atleast consider yourself a big boy or girl and handle your drinking responsibly or have plans with a sober friend to drive you home.
