this is going out to all dc techies. I just moved here from nyc and was lookin to start a deep techno night here in dc(monthly/weekly). Just wondering if this city would warm up to this idea.

I'm all for a techno night
personally I think you would be more successful doing a once-a-month party
why limit it to "deep" techno though? you will be hard pressed enough to run a successful techno night, might as well cover all of techno so as not to alienate anyone...

I love the idea. i've been itching for a techno night since the demise of neucleus and filler/matter before that.
I think "deep", "minimal", "abstract" etc. when referring to techno just means stuff you can play outside of a massive dance floor and still have work and lets face it most of us aren't going to be playing a nation size dance floor every week.
...oh and welcome to DC decimal!
....what nickn said. he can vouch for me and i for him.
pm me, and i can suggest some possible venues/help you out a bit.

to me, deep, minimal and abstract suggests stuff you can play to be backrgound music at a lounge while people go about other stuff, ie, not paying attention to the set
maybe that's just my bias talking, but I wouldn't go to a club where that's all they played
Nucleus had some banging music, and that was a small dancefloor, and it was great. Why should dancefloor size matter?

I'm not saying you have to sit there and sip cocktails like some kinda existential yuppie party but if you're saying there's no difference between playing a "lounge" (i hate that word too) and a big floor I gotta say no. Things like acoustics, sound system, ability to hold walkins and a lot of other issues can make or break a night and if people aren't showing up and staying then chances are you arent either. As far as neucleus goes - where is it now? Low blow and a point I hate to make but true none the less.

We do a party on Friday nites in Glover Park. (Right above Georgetown on Wisconsin) at a place called Saveur. Techno of any kind, (meaning Techno) not a lazy term for electronic dance music) Is the format. If you want to stop by with a CD that would be cool.
Peace,

Several comments: 1) If there's a genre known as "deep techno," is there also one known as "shallow techno"?; 2) I had NO FUCKING idea about this Glover Park party! How long has this been going on? What's the address of Saveur???; 3) Decimal, you need to hook up with Tim Resistor! Every since Zelda, Bob, and Jambi moved overseas, Resistor is the GOD of DC TECHNO (somewhere Tim's blushing).
Anyway, the news that there's one more technohead in DC, compounded with news of a techno weekly that I had no idea of, makes Babs a very happy girl indeed.

Were not really a Lineup kind of thing atm. We are open to hearing mixes from outside DJ's so if you know anyone interested. I do believe this week we have John Michael doing a live PA. Should be interesting. Our lineups usually consist of two or three Djs a night.
Our Mainstay DJs are ATM

anyone who thinks deep or minimal techno isn't for the dancefloor, has never heard it on the dancefloor :]
7-2-04 RICH. NewTechno in DC!
Come on out this Friday night as we commence
an assault on the holiday weekend with a taste of the
cream of the crop of DC's NewTechno scene!
This week, we host hardened veteran MILO (FILLER/MATTER, DC)
alongside new recruits NICK NORMAL and RED DAKINI for a special
evening of the city's finest vinyl electronic warfare.
Freshly rejuvinated after recent forays to the MUTEK Festival
and London, England, these true patriots will be serving
their duty by launching a relentless barrage of electronic salvos
directed at the dancefloor as well as your minds.
Saveur is a plush spot situated in the middle
of Glover Park on Wisconsin Avenue.
There's plenty of room for dancing, sitting at the bar,
or just lounging on couches; the perfect way to start
off the holiday weekend!
Best of all, there's no cover and parking is easy!
RICH.

Well if people actually like a certain style of music, then its only logical that somone would want to hear it at a club. Would you say?
Thats the whole idea. DJing+Speakers = Hearing something, at a bar even.
