i have. That happens every so often... il go int a store, see a vinyl by someone i like, and assume that fool wont put out a lemon, but every so often they do.. the two recent weak records i bought were: dj icey- dreams and tiesto and bt-lovecomes agian... ok theyre not shitty, but they arent top notch shit either.
I want to know what the recent lemons youve bought are:

what's really bad is when you accidentally buy a shitty record twice... like you're buying shit online... listening to the samples, and you hear the same thing in the sample that attracted you the first time... don't recognize the name of the track cause, well, after one listen you threw it in the "not going to play out" bin... and then the package comes and you're all like "what the fuck?"

i got a lot of shite from yoshitoshi grab bags... cheap, but not good. pretty much used them when i was learning to mix and then put them away for good.

I have a couple of times. It's for that very occassion that I'm glad I have my setup in my dinning room as when I hear a shitty record that I just bought from time to time I have been know to open the window right behind me and fire it right out into the street. man oh man can shitty records fly far.

If you buy a record and think it is shitty....give it a few weeks and try again...
I have bought rekkids in mass orders- get the rekkid...throw it on for a sec without fully listening...think its crap and throw it in a bin...
then I will re-discover a record I thought sucked and kick my self in the ass for it
just a FYI

I've had that happen too... it's like a few months later... I randomly grab a record I didn't care for... and am like "why have I never played this out?"

Maybe it's good for some, but I think it's awful. I'm in my "branching into jungle" phase, so I got bored and went to Tower and picked up a couple rekkids, but this just sucks complete shit. Eh well, you win some, you lose some.

I found a couple old but good tracks this way a couple weeks ago... I was arranging my records by catalouge code and noticed some producers that i was just getting into... lough and behold, they were good tracks that i just overlooked.

the problem with playing the records in sets that "grew on you" but u first thought sucked is that the poeple hearing your set will think it sucks if its their first time hearing it...

that's not necessarily true... it all depends on how you play it... or it may be that a record you bought and didn't like it cause it was a different sound then what you were playing... and then a few months later, as you grew towards that sound more it fits perfectly and people will go for it cause they're digging the sound you're dropping in general.

I have had many records (usually promos) that I thought were crap. And sometimes I would listen to them a couple of years later and think they rocked.
Unfortunately, it's usually the other way around. I have a couple of crates full of records that I used to think were good.

I had it happen a lot when I was ordering online... I'd hear something from like audioslave or capital j that sounded fucking sweet, and then when it comes in I find out that the quality of the track is HORRIBLE, and unworthy of play. It's a shame, too... some of them are really original.

I did that yesterday... found a phat Nicole Graham track:

I got it off ebay in a box of 30 records... listened to 20 sec of it, and tossed it in the "maybe bin"
househeads give it a listen. :breakdance:

I've definitely bought some records that I don't like. One thing on the flipside of things is buying a record that is good, but nothing you want 2 copies of and THEN ordering the same fucking thing a couple weeks later because you forgot you already had it in your collection... This happens to me numerous times and then I end up posting it up on Ebay but lose out on the deal because you still want to give them a decent value for not going to another site.. fuckin bollocks

This always happens to me, but there is one good outcome to this. I find that when I listen to a record I like and then finally recieve it. If I dont like it as much as I did when I was listening to it on a website or wherever I purchased it. I stash it away in my collection and like a year later I end up playin it all the time. Thats why you should never get rid of your collection.

this is probably the funniest shit I've read all day...
I mean, seriously... how do you "guess" as to the quality of a record without listening to a sample?

i bought a dj stroud record once a long time ago, and i bought it because he was one of my favorite locals back in the day.... but the record sucked, he even admitted it sucked... i don't really feel bad though, cuz at least i was supporting a local producer!

If you know the record label or the producer, you'll have an idea of what the track is gonna sound like, but then again this almost never works. Not to be a smartass and act like his lawyer but I guess this is what he was trying to say.

no I knew where he was coming from.. but I just got this picture of someone going "hey that's a cool title... or that sounds like it would be a good song.." etc.. and that made me chuckle :)

i haven't gotten a record yet that was complete and utter crap, mostly becuz when i goto a record store, i'm weary of buying stuff if i've never heard it, so i've never explored enough to be surprised like that
