If people would start putting out better stuff, I'd probably buy more. Otherwise, I end up finding between 3-5 new rekkids a week. Recently, itz been 0... So as soon as people want to start putting out better things, I'll start laying cash out again.

when i have money, i try to buy records.
sometimes, ill op to buy records instead of food.
sometimes, it really becomes a problem.
so i try to limit my access to places where i can purchase vinyl until i know i can afford to drop some loot.
$$$ Well I don't buy records every week. I mostly wait for at least 15-20 hot tracks then I buy. It is ususlly twice a month that I buy records.

I've found that the tracks I like are almost seasonal... During the fall it seems to drop off a bit, but the last 2 months have been crazy.

since i left school last summer and have been flip-flopping jobs, i've only bought a handful of records. before that though, i was getting 3-4 a week. now that i have a new job starting in 2 weeks i'll be back at it. :D i have a ton of stuff on backorder...
the note about seasonal track release is very true... end of summer and fall are particularly slow.

I bought another 4 this morning just after I got finished saying I hadn't seen anything in a while worth buying. Karma told me to shut my fucking piehole and drop cash.

$50 a week. More if there are promos online. I've given up on the ebay epidemic.

I usually buy records once a month, sometime twice.
$150 a month is the average.
had past periods when I spent up to $300 a month,
but it'd be pointless these days since
I already got a good chunk of music.

thanks to the declining value of the dollar, I tend to make bulk purchases now maybe once or twice a month (when I can afford it).
One thing I probably should've learned before spinning was how to budget money!! :-)

Am I just cheapo, or is it that you guys happen to make money off spinning or are inherently rich?
If I spend $200 on records per month, I won't have enough to pay rent!

i am broke... and i haven't bought a single record in over 2 months. occassionally i splurge and buy a new record from hot topic... but that's usually money i shouldn't be spending, anyway.
*sigh* one of these days i'll be able to afford records.

I don't make lots of $$$... I don't even come close to breaking even... I just have a nice job that affords me this... Buying vinyl is just something I love which is very very VERY addicting... I started saving all my recipts last year, & claimed my records & music equipment as a business expense....

Ya......... really good question!
My boyfriend Psych was just saying how he wants to get rid of some of the ones that just don't fit into his :Pefect" collection.
I swear to God he is obsessed with buying records and will have the walls of our studio lines with shelves soon! He won't admit it but- I think he goes through about $60 to $100 a week.
If anyones interested............ he has really good Trance, NRG, Breaks & DnB.
He's just so damn picky that if they don't meet his criteria of what flows and fits his style- they are out of the question. Even if I LOVE some of them! =)

I think, the deductions you claim have to be over the standard deduction that the govenrment automatically gives everyone (it's differs between married & single people)
You should still be able to claim everything no matter how low the cost on Schedule C. This eventually lowers your EIC (Earned Income Credit) which lowers the actual amount you have to pay in taxes. Just remember to claim whatever income you make.

i try to listen to all the new stuff out every week so i know what's going on but normally i pick up one or two a week. If i have a gig, i'll buy more.

punkassmark is right - you can deduct all your expenses on DJing as long as you can credibly claim to have a "profit motive." Reporting your DJ income, no matter how inconsequential (yes you can report $20 in free drinks) is a good thing to have in your back pocket if you are audited.
But if your total deductions don't add up past your standard deduction, it doesn't matter. It matters big time for me with a home mortgage.
and to get back on topic, between $100-500/mo depending on cashflow and quality of records available.

I wish some of the online stores I freqent (psyshop.com mainly) would have like some sort of subscription option for frequent buyers.
like in one or two week intervals, they send you all new releases they got in and just bill your card. That would be awesome. twice a month the trance truck would pull up to my front door and give me a box of stuff to listen to.
otherwise I slack too much and have gaps.
