so has there been anyone to make a drum and bass track that uses gogo drums? or is this not such a good idea? :actionmovievoice: It's so crazy it just might work....

you know, that's a really fucking good idea. the go-go beat is crucial. good go-go rhythm blows me away.
hmm.

I think that every type of drum has been utilized by DnB producers......
Conga's are the dominant drum in Go-Go, and are definitely used in DnB.
I'd definitely like to hear more tabla drums(Indian drums) used in DnB.
I've always thought you could get a unique drum sample from those kids that
play Go-Go on the plastic buckets down on street corners in D.C. Never seen them,
they're out playing on F Street before every Wizards home game.

Ya man that has been a heavy idea in my mind since 2001. I will make a heavy ass go go track with wicked DNB synths and basslines. I'll make it proper. Dc must be reprezented. I'll even throw in some go go vocals. "18th street, go on girl. Adams morgan, go on boy. hey ladies!' shit like that give a real GOGO feel to the whole thing. apart from that i haven't heard a go go inspired track, the closest was 1998's Throat by the Dynamic Duo on Joker records and it was a jump up track relating to Dj Kool's let me clear my throat. p's

ITs hard to sample go go....I have been trying to get good samples for 2 years.....NO LUCK! Unless you all have some sh*t that I ain't got.....I havene't been able to get a clean go go "break".
I do however have the "Pancake House" sample....the chorus...it is clean. GO go is good when incorporated with D&B...NOT BY ITSELF....it is garbage INMO!

While I like go-go and think it's beats are mad infectious, I will admit that it does lack sophistcation and creativity somewhat. So I can understand why some hate it, but I like it.
re: samples:
Insetad of trying to lift samples from existing songs, why not make up your own. just find some guy who has a set of drums and record him playing them. This sounds like ones of those "eaiser said then done" kind of things. Just an idea.

you could, um, sequence the distinctive percussion line of go-go. no need for a sample.

i have used gogo samples in my dnb tracks more than a few times. the thing is that when you sequence gogo drums into a dnb track, it doesn't sound like gogo anymore; it just sounds like a breakbeat with a lot of character.
i think that the only way to successfully translate the rhythm of gogo into dnb is with a swingtime/bodyrock style track. i probably won't do this myself, but i am sure that someone will eventually.

gogo is the lick!
imo the bpm of drum 'n' bass would ruin the go go groove...but it couldn't hurt using a gogo kit when building a tune. i'm sure someone's done it somewhere. drums are drums, innit.

I'm more interested in applying my dnb knowledge to creating go go than applying go go knowledge to dnb. I don't think a go go break would really sound that amazing sped up so much. It wouldn't be terribly distinctive from other rolling percussion breaks, and most of the go go drum kits I've heard lack the sharpness that really makes a dnb break stand out.
The style of vocals used in dnb could make for an interesting addition to dnb, but I think they'd have to be re-recorded rather than sampled to really fit properly.

Yeah the brits love gogo(I remember Sardines). I remember when I used to trade mixtapes w/ my boy Maj he would want gogo sets. Him and all of his friends loved it. Personally I can't stand gogo. Well its good when the guy on the mic isn't yellin some dumb shit. I remember a few years ago Double Pee(Profetcy(sp?!) Project) made a gogo/dnb track. Haha I know some people on here will say "He doesn't count"

gogo beats on a live drum kit are sick.... I know this drummer that would blow your minds...
I have never really been into it, but growing up in the area has at least given me an understanding of the music form. There are many deep and talented people playing it. I can especially dig the bands that use melody and originality in it. I think GoGo is uniquely itself, and if it was ever mixed into D&B, it would just sound like GoGo at a faster tempo, rather than D&B.....

yeah but that was just the bassline from junkyard's sardines. I mean I own the ed + op remix since it came out and all I recognize is the bassline. if they used anything else word. but I think most peopl are thinking about the drums. I mean the only way it would work is if you do it like that agent black tune. chop the drums and resequence them and bring the tempo down in a break. put in the original beat build it up and then bam. I mean I have lived in PG county most my life. I have been exposed to gogo since I was like 8. watching shit on vhs from cap center with RE, Little Benny and DC Scorpio. I mean I been hunting after Chuck Brown records most my life. Got some good joints the record with Ashley's Roachclips, we need money, run joe, man..... anyways. I am sorry to digress from the topic. It could work if someone was talented enough to arrang everything the right way. but in general I don't think it would work for the most part. yo listen to RE's lockit on 45. shit sounds like the lyn collins think break..

One of the coolest thing i've ever heard, believe it or not, was Good Charlotte (back before they got out of waldorf) playing some kind of go-go/punk rock hybrid.. just in the middle of a punk track, the drummer broke out into a sick go-go beat, cowbell and all, with punk rock guitars..
There were only like 10 kids in the comic book store they were playing at when they did it, and i was the only one that thought it was good, though..

what we know today as gogo breaks blah whatever can be heard in old rock and funk tracks from the 60's and the 70's. i mean a perfect example is the kokomo break (not the beach boys joint) but the group kokomo - i'm sorry babe from '75. that joint is a straight gogo break.
as for good charlotte -- man those kids have talent. I mean f the jont you see on mtv. they are actually really good song writers. I saw that one kid benjie at a bar-b-que in walford playing acoustic by himself and yo that jont was amazing. its hard for me to say that about a lot of modern rock/punk whatever, the kid was good that was such a long time ago to. those guys deserve what they have gotten.
