View Full Version : $700 cell phone bill

JOEYd

HOLY SHIT

so, I lost my cell phone about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I called it a million times and it always went straight through to voice mail, so thinking that it was dead and lost somewhere in my car or work or house, I have been looking and asking around at work to no luck.

So, I finally give up and decide to buy a new cell phone, and as I go on the Sprint website to look at the new plans etc, I see that I have a $700 phone bill and some fucktard has been calling non-stop on my phone!

I am going to call them and see if they will reason with me, there is no way I should have a bill like this, I have had their service for 5 years and never went this overboard. Something obviously went wrong, and I think they will help me out.

but if they don't, holy dog balls, I am so screwed!

that's what I get for trusting the world and not calling sprint immediately and temporarily halting the service.......

So.. file a lawsuit to the address that matches the fone # in Kenner. Certainly they aren't responsible, but that's one quick way to find out who is.

i had my sprint phone code hijacked driving up 95 a few years ago (when this was still possible). apparently they sit with some RF scanner and captured the login codes or something. My bill was over a grand before the geniuses at sprint figured out i wasn't actually making dozens of hours of calls to nigeria every day.

That's HOURS not MIN ? Man, I feel ya. This hasn't happened to me *knocks on wood* but I can imagine. Sometimes I get pissed at the fucktard that runs up my bill but then I remember that it's me and I give me a break because I understand my situation.

Maybe a call to Kenner, LA will help you understand who and where the fuck this idiot is.

Man, you don't F with a man's cell phone. You just don't do it.

I just might have to do this... I called Sprint, and the first girl I talked to basically told me it was totally my fault and I had to pay it, no option. So, I escelated the call to her supervisor, who then sent the case to their Theft and Fraud Department. I will be getting a call from them in the next few days.

I then went and called the police and I am going to file a police report on this, to document what happened. i think this will also help my case with the Fraud Department and show them I mean business.

when you don't use your phone for 5 minutes, it locks and you have to punch in a security code to use it.

housecat
2004-01-22, 12:14 PM
On my cell I use a security feature where when it dies you must enter a password to turn it back on. It rawks.

Joey, I think you should most DEF do a reverse check on the number the jackass called. I'm sure Sprint can investigate for you.

BuzzCat
2004-01-22, 12:24 PM
I had the same thing happen, only not for 84 hours worth of talking! Sprint didn't give me hard time at all tho, and I actually showed up on dude's door who found (found and used that is) my phone, and got in his face after I got it back. His mom was home so he couldn't do shit! hehe. (he made the mistake of calling home with it, so Sprint gave me his address.) :D

JOEYd
2004-01-22, 12:25 PM
well, here ya go guys, do your worst....

the calls were to 504-XXX-XXXX (Kenner, LA)

The police officer lady just left, she's filing a report, I have a case number and everything. $680 bill + $300 phone = me ready to take someone to court.

So, I might actually file a civil lawsuit against whoever lives at that number, at least if they feel pressured to come up with the $1000 they might point fingers at the culprit, so I can then beat them senseless.

I guess that's what the fraud department will look into.

Altho, that only tells them a 1 mile radius the phone was used in... it doesn't pin-point the location of the phone, only the tower.

ok, so I just got off the phone with the "Fraud Department" and they can not do anything for me unless they have a copy of the police report stating that the phone was stolen on THIS DATE, then they will look into the possibility of crediting me etc.

it doesn't look good.

So, now, I have to wait until the police officer finishes the report, so that I can get a copy, then I have to fax it to Sprint, and then see if they WANT to help me....

Plus don't U have some type of cap on $ plus minutes on your phone?

i don't think it's a matter of sprint sucking or not, it's a matter whether they will take these charges off, even though he did not claim his phone as stolen or missing.

i wonder what they do with credit cards in this situation

housecat
2004-01-22, 02:32 PM
If Sprint isn't reasonable here and makes you pay for this that is absurd. It's pretty obvious that you didn't make this call. Yes you should have reported it missing when you realized you lost it but nonetheless you should not be held responsible for these charges. I would fight this all the way.

Joey. Sprint will probably reason with you, but for future refference, if you loose your phone, CALL SPRINT... tell them to cancel service on that phone. Don't do it right away, wait for few hours to see if it turns up, but after that cancel the phone.

Sorry man, but you really asking for it if you don't know where your phone is, it's like misplacing CC and then hoping to find it... NO-NO

I Sprint has been pretty by the book with me so far and has not shown any sign of flexibility, even though I have been with them for FIVE YEARS, paid every single bill, and never had any odd service problem like this. They are sticking to the fact that I should have called them the minute it was gone.

We'll see once I fax over the police report and start getting answers. If they don't do anything and refuse to credit it back, I certainly will immediately File a civil injunction or whatever it is, to the person whom that phone number belongs to for them to be court ordered to give up the identity of the person who stole my phone. And then I will SUE THEM OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME..... for the new phone I just bought, the entire bill, time off work I had to take today, court costs, and of course mental anguish this has caused me.

hell, on second thought, I should go that route no matter what Sprint does....

genna
2004-01-22, 05:20 PM
I don't think you have any basis for suing them :( sorry. They didn't do anything illegal... It would probably cost you more to sue them then anything you MAY recover

This is one of the reasons i don't use Sprint. All companies that i had, would have credited me...and have credited me when my phone was copied

Hey Joey... I have had to deal with this before. Sprint is really easy... You have to get a MANAGER on the phone. Not a supervisor... A Manager. Then you either cry or yell... I cried... My friend had to do the same thing and he ended up yelling. A manager can give you free minutes to make all those minutes YOU didn't really use kinda go away... So they don't officially take money off... they just up your minutes way up for that month. GOOD LUCK. The sales rep and the sup can't do anything... you have to go like three people up. In the CS department... not in Billing... The people in Billing get shitty and yell back. Agggghhh... I have had Sprint for 6 years... I know how you feel right now.

see, with this they told me there was no such thing as unlim text messages repeatedly. i told them there was repeatedly. they said no, so my text messages were $70 over. when i called in to talk about it someone said there WERE unlim text messages.
so i was on their arses until they gave me a $70 credit.
that was the only time that free minutes would not appease me.

most of the time, unless your request is ludicrous, they will give you what you want, if you get to the top level...

But this situation is a little different... because officially... Joey is in the wrong... He should have called Sprint sooner... But, him having been a loyal customer for many years... and to retain his business... He shouldn't have to pay this.

My recent bill is over $500. I called to say "dude, WTF" and get some crap off my chest. All the calls were ligitimate, and I still walked out with $120 credit (for pity, and to shut me up), 200 extra free minutes (cause my time's over for this month too), and a payment plan that I can (sorta) do. All because I increased my minutes, lowered my night time, and bitched bitched bitched. Don't let teh bastads grind you down!

Not trying to boast, but hopefully there's something to give you hope.

Then again, that is some awesome negotiation on my part *pats self on back*

Ick....I've always preempted having to do that by upping my minutes beforehand....

Sux Joey...If you while a lawsuit, it'll be like the RIAA suits, against John Doe, and then you can find out the names from there. Won't be cheap tho.

HOLY SHIT

so, I lost my cell phone about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I called it a million times and it always went straight through to voice mail, so thinking that it was dead and lost somewhere in my car or work or house, I have been looking and asking around at work to no luck.

Ok, sorry to be like this, BUT, I lost my Sprint Cell phone and got it cut off 3 hours later because I couldn't find it. THIS IS YOUR FAULT!!!!! Bitch about something a little more worth while on the board.

Yeah, I do agree that the fault was Joey's own. But, it does suck regardless. Did anything ever come outta the situation? Kenner is about an hour from me. I got a ski mask...

i missed this thread the first time around...

it caught my eye though because i just went through a similar thing... i lost my celly at buzz 2 weeks ago, and the very next day went to the verizon store and told them i lost it. then the other day a friend of mine told me he called it and someone picked up. so... i called verizon and asked them why it wasn't turned off, and the dude was like, "well, there is a note on the account saying that it was lost"... needless to stay, i thought it was pretty ridiculous that they knew it was stolen but didn't turn it off. phone companies suck.

joey, what happened with this anyway?

I hope you can reason with sprint but I do sympathize.......I have not lost my phone and I just got a $600 phone bill :censored: . I think I am going to have to get a different plan.

Sprint is usually pretty reasonable. I added text msging to my phone last month. They said I get unlimited text messaging and that it's free for the first two months. Then I get $150 bill. They failed to mention that if I text during the day it uses up my free minutes. So I called and talked to someone and they were cool about it and took care of it after I explained that when they say free unlimited text messaging I assumed it was FREE UNLIMITED text messaging.

MaryAnarchy

that sucks

:(

i'm very pleased with tmobile
unlimited internet for 4.99/mo

unlimited mobile to mobile and text messaging for 9.99/mo

damn, how can you get your bill that HIGH????

I do not have a home phone, I let roomates and other people use it (other people = no more), I only had 1000 peak minutes and my phone rings pretty constantly......all that added up put me way over the amount of peak minutes.

I am def going to have to get a new plan with more minutes.

some companies have unlimited incoming calls as well..youmight want to look into that

i almost never talk on the phone. i'd rather text someone.

I don't know what to tell ya... I mean, I feel bad for you... but I have a prepaid plan through T-Mobile just to keep this sort of nonsense from happening. I used to have a regular cell (back around 2000) but I'd run up massive bills. This way, my bill is never any more than I want to spend.

it is so annoying to have someone always calling your cell phone for someone else

bad idea, IMO but i guess you already figured that out

I put a new message that basically says if I don't know the number call back after 9pm or leave a message.

Usually it is not that high and I let other people use it.....but after this I have become a cellphone nazi.

No phone for you!!
