I love the country and I'm glad that I was raised there, but in general, I can't handle the ignorance and bigotry of most of the people who live there. I realize that I'm generalizing, but I can't tell you how many arguements I got into on the street when I moved back home after college. I was "escaping" to the city every weekend, so I finally threw up my hands and moved to DC.

I like to think so! (wink wink!)

but I can still build a barn, raise livestock, milk a cow, can food, haul wood, ride a four-wheeler, go camping (I mean REAL camping here...like going a week without a shower!), hunt, ride a horse, and get down and dirty....

Growing up I had a 45 minute drive to a grocery store and we also heated our house with a wood stove. I definitely didn't like the grocery trip, but wood heat is definitely the best IMO.

It's called the Mason Dixon line and it runs between PA and MD. I believe LilSunnyGirl is from MD, which would put her below the M-D line.

I am from the best of both worlds...When I miss the country, I go visit my family for a weekend though...and It feels good to come back into the city..and face all the traffic and pollution, It makes me feel good.

yeah, I used to tell people in Utah that I was a "southerner" b/c of that fact...don't know why but hell, it sounds cool! hehe! guess there's something appealing about a southern belle! too bad I don't have to accent to go along...

:haha: I never fully appreciated a Piggly Wiggly until I heard my teeny, tiny über-Southern grandmother refer to one with her extraordinarily twangy, grandmotherly Southern accent. No one can cook like that woman. NO ONE!!! I gain at least 10 lbs in a week everytime I visit her.

nah, it's all about Harmons...but that's a Utah thing.

I love those little road side farmers stands/markets...and orchards where you can pick your own fruit!

LadyJ
2004-01-21, 12:21 PM
They have those stands all over the place although I'm picky about who I buy from. I work acrossed the street from one of those orchards too. You're only in Mont County, so it isn't that far.

I was definitely raised in the city (Arlington and Fairfax) but my roots are so country its ridiculous.

My dad is from Wellsburg. We went back when I graduated high school and I was mortified of my backwoods heritage. Then I dated Darin who is from Pekin Illinois and I discovered the wild PBR and Bud drinking, big truck driving, swearing, cowboy hat and boot wearing country boys....

I hated having a wood stove, it was such a pain in the ass. I would never want to go back to freezing my ass off in the morning before school because the fire went out. I had to live in the country for 5 years, I hated it when we moved there and I hated it when I left.

No one knows country like southern Tennessee boys. Of course, as I have recently and to my utter demise discovered, Tennessee inbreds have very little idea of what a raver boy is. So I'll keep my country living and just take a drive once a month for some good Buzz fun.

You get used to it. Unless there's a large hog farm on a hot day, I don't even really notice it anymore. I was one of the only people in my dorm at MD who didn't mind living next to the stables.

I camped in jungles and still showered. They were cold showers but I still kept myself clean. I think you meant to say 'be gross' and not 'go camping.' But, it's ok. Mastery of English is a trait not often found in 'the country.' It's all part of the package.

I get that all the time...something about hot pink UFO's and kandi seems to throw people off....

you should see me when I'm not at the club. Not that I dress like a hick or anything like that...but you just wouldn't pick me out as being a raver either...hell, for the most part I look like I stepped out of a Gap or American Eagle ad...I'm pretty laid back when it comes to my clothes to be honest

<-----------City raised, County at heart. I love country life. Chopping your own wood, killing your own chickens, working with horses. The only problem is it takes me a few days to sleep right because its to quite. I can drink a bud any day of the week, Id miss my Guinness tho.

A person can get used to falling asleep to police sirens and ambulances. But the sound of crickets and cicadids singing to the lazy breeze on a warm summer night sends nostalgia flaring through any country body.
