This wouldnt work for buzz but I would like to see a smaller venue where new people can showcase themselves. People you might not know of yet but are worth a listen.

I was supposed to spin there but my date was after it shut down. I was most looking forward to having a CD recorded.

yup. I got to spin there for the mem. day BBQ. That was about it. besides the practice session on the off hours.

As far as DnB DJs, I think ALIAS has been doing a pretty good job of getting some new faces behind the tables. For everything else, perhaps there could be some newer talent in the FR when there is DnB in the MR.

yup.. that would be cool. Alias is doing a good job. Jungle only though (bummer). Maybe when the back deck opens in the summer there will be more space for newbies. :D
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 10:56 PM
Good point. I didn't even think of the deck. The Rubik room would be nice too, but I think that's pretty dedicated to 80s, electro, and bit o' honey.

maybe in summer the patio could be opened similar to alias / cold turkey for prog or house...? couldn't cost that much more to do eh? is the patio open anyway...?
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 11:06 PM
I think it's usually open in the summer, and I wouldn't think it would cost too much. Many up and coming DJs would be willing to spin for next to nothing, or even drink tickets, for the opportunity to showcase themselves at Cübik.

yeah no shit - if someone would step up to organize (buster?) the same way john tab has been organizing the dnb locals in the front room it could be cool as hell... thursdays like the warm up for friday for all genres...
Stryda!
2004-01-01, 11:18 PM
I think alias is inside for the winter only. Then they move it back out to the patio and alchemy takes over the two main rooms. Maybe you could have a something up in the rubik room. :D
zartan
2004-01-01, 11:23 PM
really? Alias is on the patio? I didn't think it was ever on the patio..... my recollection is it was always in teh front room - i know it was in june when i went near my birthday. you sure about that?
Stryda!
2004-01-01, 11:26 PM
yup.. JT had to buy a big ole tent for outside. I know that they had it in the front room when the weather was bad and they didnt have the tent. But it was only a couple months before it got cold and moved upstairs. :D
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 11:26 PM
I never made it over the summer because I lived too far away, but I was under the impression that it was on the patio during nice weather:gotme:

2004-01-01, 11:26 PM
oh... hmm. well then my idea is wack.
Stryda!
2004-01-01, 11:27 PM
not really... there is still an open room. :D
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 11:28 PM
you're thinking DnB on the patio, 4/4 upstairs? i don't know how alchemy would feel about that...
Stryda!
2004-01-01, 11:30 PM
he he.. I just thought that if alias went back outside. Either way I dont think nation on thrusdays is an option for this type of event. Alias/Alchemy has it going on for thrusdays.
Maybe the buzzer would book newer people on the back deck during the summer. :D
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 11:33 PM
right on. that's what i was thinking. i just thought eric was talking about thursdays as well.
LadyJ
2004-01-01, 11:34 PM
of course, i don't work for buzzlife and i don't book parties; therefore, i should just show up and dance:D
Stryda!
2004-01-01, 11:34 PM
yeah, I think we mixed up thrusdays and fridays somewhere. :D

i was. just a random thought, not that i think alchemy would be all psyched about it.

2004-01-01, 11:36 PM
i think we should have "candi kid night" at alchemy. all of the junglists can just sit back and watch:evilred:

I wish that they could get nations main room for like a wed night or something for a cold turkey type event. I would pay at least a hundred bucks to hear my records on the EAW.

I don't think any of us would mind too much.
I'd really like to see a Shape the Future type event for the 4/4 crowd. That was a really awesome idea and worked (is working) very well for ALIAS.

Alias has been in the upstairs Rubik room since the second half of September :D It took a while but we finally settled into a regular spot on Thursday nights.

yeah yeah i know. we were discussing the idea of having a similar shape the future type event for 4/4 djs somewhere else in nation. the question is - will alias be out on the patio in summer? or still upstairs?
b/c we were fantasizing about commandeering the patio for a 4/4 shape the future.
anyway...off to watch some sopranos (just got *all* the dvds) and head out to listen to boom-boom-tsk-tsk-tsk-tsk-boom-tsk for a while, then sanborn's monotonous elevator house. c ya.

i think it would be awesome to see an alias-esque local showcase for other genres...why not just have it on the porch at cubik when it gets warm? i'm sure there would be plenty of ppl willing to organize it. if they set it up like a competion ppl could vote for they're favorites on the board after they went to the party.
so back to the original topic....local djs i'd like to see?? hmm moody moore of course ;) :smooch: um...implicit and suneel doing another tag team. and i have to say jennr8 because i'm listening to her new cd right now :raveon:

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of the competition format. I've been to ALIAS during the competitions and it just turns into a popularity contest of who can bring the most friends. I realize that from a business perspective, this is the real goal, but from a music standpoint, it's very discouraging. By the last timeslot, most of the people remaining are friends of that DJ. How can you have a fair "vote" when people don't stick around to hear everyone? I'm definitely in support of a showcase of local talent, but the competition format isn't taken seriously.

I FREAKING LOVE THE 80'S AS WELL.
I would like to hear some Freestyle/Latin hip hop in the rubik room. Im not sure if any of you guys know about this type of music but it was the shit back in the 80's/ early 90's in Florida New York and California, It's breakbeats mixed with lyrics. Artists like George lamond, Stevie B, and Lil Suzie. Every since ive moved down here from new york, usaully the only people that can relate to me with this genre are oriental, middle eastern, and hispanic people.
N E ways. Point is, i would like to hear some FREESTYLE up in the Rubik room.
peace.
