Hi guys show your support for Civil Unions, Gay Marriages or opposed.
http://www.marriagepoll.com
These results will got to Congress.
I personally think that if you love someone you should have all the rights and privledges that a union between two people inherit from teh government.
Hell I date exclusively women my whole life until the past two years....so I am biased.

Just voted... gays should have the same rights as anyone else IMO.
Just noticed the results of the poll and it saddens me that so many people oppose this :(

which is hilarious, considering who's hosting the poll

You have to remember that the majority of people who have voted are members or affiliate of the American Family Association. They are the ones running the poll and you better believe that, while they are promoting the hell out of it within their own circles, they are not going out of their way to let anyone else know about it. This is not a scientific poll or one that can even pretend to be taken from a diverse cross-section of Americans. Don't be discouraged if it looks like "Americans" are against gay marriage and/or civil unions. Just get some satisfaction out of skewing the results that they are trying to get.

Hey, a spouse is a spouse. When two people are in love, gay or not, they should have any and all rights to marry as any other couple. Two people who are citizens of a certain state should be allowed to marry in that state regardless of sex. It's just a stupid policy that keeps all the weird wealthy conservatists happy.....the ones who contribute to gubernatorial pac's of course.

Sorry for repeating Mary's thread but thanks for sticking it to the Conservatives!

I don't really think it's conservatives that are against gay marriage. I think the proper term would be "bigots".

It's not really fair to demand that these old, prejudiced, conservative- quasi-religious- lawmakers legitimize homosexuality.
Some of them genuinely want to preserve what they feel is the sanctity of marriage. To wit, they should ban those Vegas-style/shotgun marriages first.. but still.
I'm not defending them in anyway, but I can almost understand- my grandfather isn't a bad man, he's just old, and I'm sure his stance on homosexuals isn't wholly agreeable.

Social progress is slow but inevitable.
Give it a while.

Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up --- fireman, policeman, salesman, etc... David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.
"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money."
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring and took Little David aside to Ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"
"No," said David, "He works for the Bush administration, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

:haha: That's pretty funny.
But my mom doesn't like the lifestyle that gay people choose, but she still has gay friends. The lifestyle doesn't affect a person's persona. If you like them, be friends with them and accept their life as their's not yours. That's just my $.02

In this case I imagine "lifestyle" is a euphemism for gay sex.

I would have used "trojan horse" for that. No, I meant as in a couple in a serious relationship of the same sex. My parents don't agree with that, just their way of thinking. I don't hate them for that.

See, that's odd to me.
Our parents and grandparents are the ones that instilled values in us.
Did they do a bad job?
Or are we just a more conscientious generation?

I think we question more than our parents did. So, inturn, we learn a bit more.
Our parents just mainly took what they were given as correct and accepted that. Some of our parents were lucky enough to question things, but most didn't.

We're just more used to the idea... Most of us are just as stubborn and intractable about the things we believe to be wrong.

i think people tie in how they were raised, with what content they were raised with, religion, and environmental influence with their views and standpoints in todays society. the generation today is A LOT more, i think, opening and accepting, but there are those who are always going to look back to family/parents for i guess uhm...what's the word....acceptance? i think a lot of deeper things tie into judgement and decisions people make. of course we cant rule out ignorance and stubbornness to decision making. what's that one common phrase "if a person doesn't understand it they are afraid of it" ? somethin like that.

Benefits coverage for domestic partners is determined by employers...always good to suggest the idea to your HR people if you're in favor of such benefits.
(Except in a few states where domestic partner coverage is prohibited by law...like Virginia.)
