View Full Version : Jealous friends

Last night I had to cut my night short w/o saying goodbyes....
b/c I found out that one of my friends for a long time is in love with me and couldn't take seeing me flirting so I missed most of POTD as a result b/c I had to leave...
:lame:
I got mad b/c we aren't friends with benefits( I don't see him like that) and he's not my bf...and he got really jealous
:slap:

My advice: give it a couple of days to cool down a little bit. Assess your own feelings. Decide what you are going to say before you meet up with him again and be firm when you communicate with him. If you have no interest in him romantically, make it clear. No need to be mean, but be honest about yourself. Once he accepts it, and if he is a good friend, he'll eventually be mature enough to still be your friend and move on.
If you do have an interest in him after all, take it slow. Romantic relationship with a friend is delicate but very rewarding if you play it right. NEVER never never become friends with benefits. I've seen it screws up so countless times.
good luck: thumbsup:

yeah well, I am so sure I have no feelings for this friend in the romantic way, sexual way or anything only in the I hug you and we are friends way. It's hard b/c he's been my friend for a long time and I don't want to lose him as one of those.
I hope this is a pass and go crush..
but thanks for advice

Seriously though, we men need FIRM, CLEAR answers (and we often don't get it from the ladies). If he senses there's any hope, he could very well project himself in this "relationship" in his mind, and enters his "hunter" mode. But if he smells there's no interest after a couple of sniffs, he'll move on faster than you can say "not interested."
We stupid stupid men. :D

I confuse alot of my guy friends apparently because, I'm hella affectionate person.

Mitaic is completely right. Men need clear and real signs that there are no possiblities of a relationship. That why most men, well lets say most, don't go after girls already in a relationship. They know that they have no chance, but that is a clear sign. Women rarely give men such brutall honesty we ask for, so we are left to the imagination. Just tell him, straight forward, that there is no chance. If he's truly a friend, he'll get a little angry or sad, but you won't lose him.

yeah I kissed him on the cheek once...b/c he did something super sweet for me...does that count as leading on?

2003-12-13, 03:04 PM
umm........yeah. In his eyes it does.

Guys will take ANYTHING as a sign that there's hope, we're stupid like that.
"Did you see the way her left ear twitched while she was yelling at me and waving the restraining order? That means she secretly wants me."
You don't have to be mean, but you do need to tell him that there's no hope AND that if he continues behaving like that he's going to lose your friendship also.
Unfortunately, I don't think I've ever seen this situation work out. Guys that my xgf just liked as friends would fall for her all the time (even while we were dating) and eventually skitz out to the point where she couldn't hang out with them anymore. If he gets a girlfriend maybe his crush will fade, you should try to find him a date ;)

I don't think that's really true... It *could* be, but it's alright to kiss a guy on the cheek.. Jeez.. The problem is, when I'm interested in a girl, it *is* hard to figure out if she's just being friendly, or is into me.. Sooner or later, you either have to say something and talk it out, or just let it go away.
I suggest you just talk with him about it, and don't worry yourself so much about leading people on. Really, no matter what you do, someone is going to see it as a signal.

It's all in perception, he will see most anything you do as a possible sign. Pretty much until he is told otherwise. Honesty works quite well.

good advice(phil is always full of good advice)....the only thing is I only hang out with alot of guys, not alot of females(most of the fem's I run with aren't into guys) ..too bad he's not bi then that would work out. and too bad my sister is only 13..chica looks like me alot..identical minus the curves and age diff. .....he will have to wait 5 years until she's legal.

did he actually say he was jealous?
maybe he didn't like the music or had the flu?

jealous friend, eh?
you gotta handle that just right. i advise grabbing and making out with every willing party except for him, as close to him as possible. that should make things clear.

The worst is friends with benefits after a failed relationship... I stopped that about a month ago with my X. We stopped seeing eachother last Jan, and had been sleeping together off and on since then... It's a really tough situation that you have been put in, but such is life...
