Who would go to see them?
I've got to say, they are hands-down the worlds most intense electronic music experience. I dont normally stray from the DC area for parties, but I've driven to NYC twice to see them and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Words cannot even describe their live act. Its amazing.
:nuke:
For the past 3 years, it seems that they have only been booked in NYC and SF, but I think that there is enough interest in this area to PACK nation! I mean...its such a big event that I'm sure there would be lots of people driving quite a few hours to see them. Every time I've been up to NYC I always bump into a bunch of people from the DC area, and I know Mary Anarchy just went up there to see Astral Projection!
I even went as far as to locate an email address for bookings!
hommega@netvision.net.il <hommega@netvision.net.il>
I dont work for Infected Mushroom, I just REALLLY want to see them come to this area and I'm sure a lot of other people do too!

Infected mushroom is Amit Duvdevani and Eres Aizen.
They do a live show with synths, mixers and effects. Their music is a full-on absolutely pounding brand of tripped out trance. They have a rig similar to orbital.

I think we have to prove how many people would go to see them.
Would you pay $25 to see them?
:traviswork:
It doesnt seem like there is a huge goa scene here, but there are some very dedicated individuals, and Infected Mushroom definitely have a diverse fanbase. I certainly know that a lot of people had an awesome time at the Goa Beach at starscape 2002.
An important part of a Goa party is the decorations too. Tons of tapestries and day glo under blacklight. Psychokinetics have a lot of really amazing decor.

Moreover, Infected Mushroom will be a spectacle that few this side of the pond have experienced. Words alone cannot describe the intracacy of the music they write, and not only that, their production methods are indeed top notch... not only in the psytrance area but in music overall.
For those who want an introduction to the Infected sound, look up what I feel is their best album, Classical Mushroom from Yoyo Records/BNE. Here's a link to samples you can listen to.:

They aren't DJs :) Well, Erez and Duvdev (they're Israeli, hence the interesting names) DJ by themselves... together their project is Infected Mushroom, and they produce and play their own music. This music is what we're after ;)
i'm not into calling anyone "top" but like I said before, these two guys are absolutely brilliant with the tunes they come up with and how they produce them. Their studio is like a fucking spaceship:

2004 will be a big year for psytrance/goa in the US. We have two of the biggest producers alighting our ears this summer in the biggest club on the east coast. Even tonight, there is such a large party in NYC at Spirit, the reclaimed Twilo space. Not only this, but several major outdoor festivals on the east coast will be happening... from New York to North Carolina.
Astral Projection and Infected Mushroom at Buzz will mark the second return to playing on this side of the pond in less than a year. Everywhere they play, trance heads and non-trance heads alike have oozed onto the floor during their sets. The sound production of both is amazing. Couple this with the system at Buzz, and their music will shoot through you like a bolt of greased lightning.
You WILL get to experience what many people have talked about. Isn't that so outrageously rad? And the decor for these nights will be in-cred-ible. Not just par cans and flying gobos for these guys. Expect a wonderland of mind expanding proportions.
Infected Mushroom's website is http://www.infected.co.il/
And a few pictures here (http://gallery.unsteady.net/view_album.php?set_albumName=infected)
Astral Projection's website is http://www.astral-projection.com/

No my father just moved there when it happened My friends told me all about
it though thats what got me into the scene. I was 16 and had no idea what
electronic music was about until I went to Budapest. All the kids there are crazy
about goa and dnb. All the kids and adults are at all the parties. The phattest
party i went to was Katlan it was in an old russian nuclear bunker. There were 7
different chambers but I stayed in the goa room all night. I went the next year
as well. Since then I came back and started listneing to house and going to buzz
but i have always loved goa and it has a special place in my heart.
Ive been trying to go to a real goa party for a while now. I am
sorry I missed your guys parties. School blows dick. I cant wait to see you guys set this shit

The True Gods of Goa.
I have to agree. IM is good, but i think astral is so much better. IM is too experimental, and while they have awesome talent and skills, astral is much more refined and provides a much stronger, harder hitting, energetic vibe. Dont get me wrong, IM is renowned in the goa scene for a reason, but personally id prefer to dance and get lost in astral's trance anthems. Thats all a matter of taste since both groups are amazing artists.
jetset
2004-03-29, 09:43 PM
True...
However, at least in my experience (we were both at the same Astral gig in NYC) I felt that their music consists of so many complex arpeggios on the synths that sometimes it just doest sync up exactly. It seemed to me that a lot of their songs sounded kind of muddy jsut because there was wayy too much going on at once to be played live.
I just feel that Infected Mushroom comes across as a better live show, but both Astral and Infected are top-notch, stellar musicians with some amazing records under their belts.

I think both IM and Astral are great. I dont consider one better that the other, because you can't really compare the two. They both have their own unique styles (even though they're part of the same genre) and are very different in my opinion. so comparing the two is really not fair.
IM does have a very clean and stand out sound (check out the production on 'Converting Vegetarians'), and it does lean bit towards on experimental side. Astral on the other hand does have alot going on within their song structure and is very melodic and emotional. But their melodic style is like no other. Their consistency with creating such unique style of melodic content, is what makes them stand out so much.
So in my opinion, both are great! :D

We are taking a break from our Sunday party to concentrate on making the nights at Cubik as successful as possible.
Although we won't be doing the Sunday night party for a little bit, we've been asked by Lonnie of Ultraworld to team up with him on a Saturday night @ Sonar sometime in the near future. More details on that T.B.A.

I know, right?
Psy is starting to get a greater following world wide these days.
In the UK there was an article in the guardian about the rising popularity, and there have been some awesome psy parties there recently. I believe that Homelands has a psy area this year!
Maybe the rolling ball that is psytrance has finally come across the huge hill that can give it the momentum to become an unstoppable, integral part of the DC scene.

Psytrance in my opinion has always been the most cutting edge electronic music genre when it comes to musical / technical production. I think that the rest of the electronic music fans in the world are just getting bored with whats been popular and want to hear something new.

I would agree to certain extent, yes it is. Definitely within the EDM scene! But, as far as the vast Electronic music genre itself goes, I dont think so. In my opinion ofcourse :D

Oh yeah, I still have his "Voyage Into Trance... " mix cd from years back.
Point is, and I said it half jokingly, he is the chamelion of trance... going where the poopularity is so it wouldn't suprise me if he "suddenly" played out psy again.

Heres the article about the rising popularity of psytrance in the UK:
Clubbers fall under spell of Psytrance
Anushka Asthana
Sunday April 4, 2004
The Observer
It was a scene once found only on the beaches of Goa. Women with dreadlocked hair stood by the sea swinging leather straps around their bodies making patterns out of the fire-lit ends.
Ageing hippies sat on the sand beating their drums, and a mass of bodies dressed in luminous clothes and adorned with beads and piercings would dance as one to the deep trance beats and electro notes. Soon it made it to winter squat parties in London basements and summer free parties in fields - a few travellers wanting to relive their Indian experience would re-create the theme.
But last night Psytrance - a mix of psychedelic and trance music - made the final move out of the underground and exploded on the national club scene when 4,500 people descended on London's Brixton Academy for The Psychedelic Academy, the largest indoor festival of its type in the UK.
Old and young danced under three huge lasers and seven screens showing psychedelic images. Entranced by the music, travellers, professionals, students and city workers had the time of their lives, bringing together a more diverse group than that found in any other type of music.
You may not have heard of it, but Psytrance is about to hit the big time. The music has electronic, tribal and thumping layers that can almost instil a meditative state in the clubber. It is a producers' dream, with a wealth of opportunity to experiment. Originating from peace-loving travellers, it carries the philosophies of peace and free thinking. But now it has moved from the circles who adore yoga and meditation to a mainstream crowd.
For the first time last night, the organisers put the hard trance into room two and dedicated the main stage to this new trend. 'We always had this music in the smaller room,' says promoter Enrico Sorbello, 'but more and more people were packing in. It has gone from a time when you would get 200 people in a basement to now, when we can sell more than 4,000 tickets.'
And this summer it will become even bigger when Glastonbury dedicates a full day on the Glade stage to it and some of the same organisers branch off to produce the first ever, three-day-long Glade Festival.
'Psytrance is absolutely huge within dance music now,' says Gavin Herlihy, features editor at Mixmag. 'There have been loads of nights springing up and they are all getting packed. It has come from people travelling to places like Goa, and it is about a hippy culture that more people have tagged on to because they feel alienated about things like the war. It carries with it a lot of psychedelic drugs, many of which are legal, such as mushrooms and leaves like Salvia divanorium. Lots of kids who have taken ecstasy for years at mainstream clubs are trying Psytrance as something different.'
At a pre-party in Camden's Dream Temple, clubbers are getting themselves ready for a big night. Eleanor is dressed in a nylon skirt with a zip up the front and yellow, luminous edges, a plain black top and trainers. She is excited about the night ahead.
'I went to a party with a friend a few months ago and I have been a regular ever since,' she says. 'Everyone is incredibly friendly and you meet loads of new people.' She looks sheepish when drugs are mentioned. 'I am going to take some mushrooms and maybe some MDMA tonight, but it is the one type of music that I can go out to without anything. It is not just about getting trashed.'
Although this scene is more interested in herbal highs than illegal drugs, there is no doubt that much of the production is inspired by hallucinogenic experiences with big-name acts called suggestive names like Infected Mushroom and Hal lucinogen. Now it is attracting an array of new types of people, from pill-popping kids, to professionals, to the older hippies who have loved it for years. There is no snobbery between them.
At Access All Areas, an information network in Camden that promotes the music, customers were last week discussing mushroom experiences. 'I just closed my eyes, but I could see a sheep,' says one young man.
Promoters are revelling in the boom. 'I don't mind it going overground at all,' says one of the organisers of the festival and co-owner of Nano Records, Anselm Guise. 'The more people who listen to it the better. I just saw 6,000 people having a great time at the stage at Glastonbury last year and thought it was amazing.'
The success of the music has been replicated in the record industry, with a proliferation of new labels. One of the larger British labels, Organic, has seen sales more than double in the past year.
At the Dream Temple, a music, clothes and books shop, the owner, Nigel, says: 'This used to be about the person who went to India with their dreadlocks and didgeridoo, but now there are so many more parties and promoters have done a fantastic job bringing everyone together.'

Bah, come on, you cannot seriously believe psy trance is the most advanced music. I love the old stuff and will definitely be there for Infected Mushroom but I find the stuff that comes out these days totally unlistenable. It's all the same: jackhammer basslines and stupid pounding beats. Even ghetto techno sounds relatively intelligent next to it.
Still better than drum and bass though.
Allright, not to end on a negative note. Have you heard the last Toi Doi album "sustenator"? I wish more psytrance would sound like that because it is the shit! Hypnotic, pumping, acidic...lovely.

Yeah....some goa tends to lean towards the muddled-wayy-too-synthy-way-too-arpeggiated sound.
Some artists I personally like.
Astrix
Miraculix
1200 mcgs
Talamasca
Everyone has their hits, and everyone has misses too, but dont forget that psy-trance is a lot like other trance in the respect that some is amazing and groundbreaking, while other just takes the basic elements and slap em together into whatever might get em signed, and it sounds like everything else.
Goa is not infallible.
But there is some truly amazing stuff out there, and it moves me on the floor like nothing else can.
Props to Buzzlife for giving it a chance in DC.

Infected Mushroom pretty much carries the entire GOA population in my opinion. Anytime someone mentions the style, Infected Mushroom seems to be brought up. They're very consistent at putting out really cool shit and whether or not they take tons of time thinking up tracks, I've heard so much by them that isn't just hot but I can honestly say it's very interesting. This shit is not for the timid.

i'm actually not going to be painting much, there's other people doing that (friends of mine)..but i will be there on and off throughout the night.
i'm the official paint table bizzatch...catering to the whims of the painters and making sure everything is going okay.
you rock harder than me. i attempted to make a welcome back bracelet last night, but i'm out of E's.

IT WAS AMAZING!
Thank you
Buzzlife for booking them
Konvocation, cyzum, etc etc for the AWESOME decorations
Their set wasnt quite was I was used to, but they tore it up!
I would have liked to see them play more classic tracks, but they definitely had the crowd moving
I definitely had the best time that i have ever had at buzz last night.

Infected Mushroom is orgasmic...i hope to see them in jamica at pystopia when i tie the knot with my love....i want to have them playing, elation station or Shakawkaw....keep your fingers crossed for me. just the absolute beauty of the music and moods it helps you reach.
They were insane, i would sell a tit for one more chance pystopia hopefully will be that chance. tropical setting, tripping for a weeklong, all paid for and just listening and meeting the greats...Alex Grey, Paul Booth, mother and father of mdma....oooo...gets me hot already
