Seems like most comedies try to wrap up with some sappy stuff at the end and to me it kinda ruins the flow of the movie. a good examples...
bruce almighty
anger management
It doesnt usually make me dislike the movie..but I think it's a lil lame.
What do you think....do you think a wrapup is needed or the sappy endings are lame?

I think I'll help you get this back on the chart.
I know what you mean, it's pretty :dan: when they get all mushy at the end and you leave like :woah: :wtf:

It is pretty lame, but it's the only way to give any closure.... it's what makes a movie a movie and not a really long sitcom.

although the sappy endings are lame.... it's better than getting out of your seat at the movies and asking yourself, "what the fuck was that".... sappy endings are just usually easy endings.

well, it couls be freeform comedy, much like spun was a comedy, not because it was supposed to be, but because i had a person (or many persons) i know that fit into every chracter in that movie. to me it was funny-- sad, but still funny.

You're talking about comedy/dramas.
Most comedies incorporate some sort of other drama...not many things can have JUST comedy for 2 hours.
Even from the beginning of 'the comedy' (slap stick, silent comedy) from Buster Keaton to Charlie Chaplin...other plot lines have HAD to exist.
That's why we have stand up comedy videos. :D

I like the ending of The Sweetest thing … it builds up to the girl trying to get the guy .. then they finally kiss … and she is like “damn … you suck ... It was a lot better in my dreams ”

The overabundance of happy endings in most movies have to do with American culture. For whatever reason, Americans prefer to leave the theatre feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. This has been proven time and time again when a movie gets sent to a test audience and ends up back in the studio to reshoot the end. It's to the point that some movies have two separate endings - one American, one European. If I remember correctly, I believe that Fight Club is a prime example of this. Originally, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter died at the end of the movie, but Americans didn't react well so they reshot it. When the movie was released, Europe got the original ending and we got the "happy" ending.

Same goes for clerks. In the original cut a robber shoots Dante at the end of the film. Test audiences reacted poorly to that so they left it out.
