View Full Version : Tori's thoughts on Britney

Interesting... and goes along with some of our discussions on the board about weight, Britney, Xtina, etc...
"Mostly I find Britney embarrassing. She ought to be ashamed of what she does right now saying things about keeping your virginity and that air headed sex bomb appearance of hers. But of course it starts to become dangerous if a lot of girls adopt her weight and behavior as their example. The young girls that come to my show are very often desperately looking for an alternative of the Britneys of this world. They can hardly eat less than they already do and still they don't look anything close to the Vogue girls. They never go to McDonald's, but simply are built heavier. That is extremely frustrating and a lot of women are looking for ways to break with these thoughts. Sometimes I meet gorgeous girls who are constantly focused on what they weigh and who don't see their own beauty. Sometime that really pisses me off and I talk to them fiercely."
"This causes these girls to be acknowledged in the fact that being beautiful will get you far. I sincerely hope a new generation will stand up that says: let's develop our brains and not our bodies. Girls that will say to a Christina Aguilera: you think you're a strong woman because you show your red thong? Get a grip and put on some clothes."
"Right. Then no man wants to fuck her anymore and also the urge of women to be just like her will dry up. Then Britney won't be of any use anymore, because she can't sing and she doesn't have anything to say either. And that's sad. Mainly for her, though, because it must be frickin' scary to be so dependent on your looks. I sincerely hope in music a new generation of women will stand up that have something to say. It's about time."

Way to go Tori!
Although I personally love Christina Aguilera--for her awesome voice--I believe Tori has it right on the nose.
No one looks like that in real life....even Christina and Britney-it's amazing what lots of makeup and airbrushing can do for someone.

I love this: "Girls that will say to a Christina Aguilera: you think you're a strong woman because you show your red thong? Get a grip and put on some clothes."
Christina can sing her ass off, and I do like the fact about her that she doesn't care what people think.
It's just an interesting view of feminism, and that Britney's career is based on her looks. They aren't gonna last forever.

That would be nice but I don't see it coming.
Yeah, I'm really sad for Britney. She gets no attention or money... please

Unforunately, yes, if you are beautiful you will go far. You can be ugly and still go far, like being a politician. :)
And as for Britnney, I dont think shes ultra skinny, she seems built relatively muscular. Shes a good performer but by no means an artist, she is singing someone else's song, done to someone else's music, and dancing someone else's dance on top of it all..oh and wearing someone else's fashion style.

of course it is coming, you think Britney and Christina will look like that forever? The only thing going for Christina is that she can actually sing.
And the tides of social acceptance are forever changing...look at the younger generation of singers now....Avril, Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton....these girls are coming out with mostly quality music, but are refusing to be marketed as a sex object.
I hope we see a change very soon, at least before I have to start raising my own children.

Britney Spears is an untalented hypocrite.
I wish she'd spend half of her time actually being a role model for young female teens instead of being an air headed, self absorbed slut that doesn't practice what she preaches.
I'd like to NOT see her on the few occasions that I turn on the tv.
Tori gets my vote.

they will look like that as long as plastic surgery will allow it
I think that, even though most people don't like to admit it, looks are extremely important for a woman, Britney and Xtina are not the problem, they just learned how to play the game. Changing the rules of the game would be nice but I don't see it happening any time soon...

Consider the lyrics people write for Britney, "oh bay-be bay-be how was I supposed to know..."
vs. Tori's lyrics she crafts herself, "Oh Zion please remove your glove & dispel every trace of his spoken word that has lodged in my vortex"
Is there any competition here?
Perhaps some people just don't care about intelligent music, and just want to see some ass

There will always be Britney's as long as the world wants to see some ass (and it always will)
It just boggles my mind the music that people like for certain reasons sometimes.

*edit on previous post*
I agree with what she says about Brittney, but I don't agree with the part about Christina... at least not entirely. I would be all about Christina if she didn't target her music towards children... I understand and appreciate her flamboyant effort to overturn stereotypes (and the sexual double-standard against women is a tough issue to tackle), but I ABSOLUTELY don't agree that the message should be targeted to young girls who already have enormous self-esteem issues in this society, and it shouldn't be a message to girls that the only way to assert your independence is to walk around half-naked. That's unhealthy and borderline (?) pedophillic.
However, I do have to appreciate a pop star in this day and age that is at least making an effort to have a message and communicate more to an audience than superficial aims.
Plus, I do like the message in "Beautiful" no matter how ironic the delivery is. And the video (I heard) is good too, because it shows homosexuals in a positive light. So that's something. And last night I was watching a documentary on Christina and her publicist said that, although she understands and supports Christina's effort to show a different side of female empowerment, she DOES agree that lately the truth of the message has been lost in the delivery, and that Christina's probably going to go easy on the 'slut' image. And that's something I hope for.

tori is a brilliant artist .. her work is amazing.
Then Britney won't be of any use anymore, because she can't sing and she doesn't have anything to say either.
this is really the important point, i think. britney can dance and has some good things going for her in that department, but there's such an imbalance between that and the actual POINT of her music, which should be the focus of her career anyways. the performers that actually have something to say have longevity, not those that rely on the same visual tricks over and over again.

Actually Brittney is plain-looking, pretty average. She jus has good makeup (thanks to personal make-up artist) good body (thanks to personal trainer) good, sexy dance moves (thanks to personal choreographer) and she owes the root of it all to her crazy mom, who put her into talent shows and audtions since the age of like 1 or something.

I loathe and despie stage parents, having auditioned for a lot of commercials and tv shows I know what they are like..i remember one time I was auditioning for a credit card commercial and in the hallway were both parents scolding their like 4 year old hard core for not pronouncing financial right or something..i forgot what the lines where..but man they piss me off. Like a 4 year old has any ambition to be a tv star without their parents coaxing.

Tori is so wonderful...let's all sing the praises of Tori now.
..anywho, I was curious what she thought about Britney and Christina since she built her career on pure talent. I didn't know if she'd think they were sexpots that could be respect for the manipulation of the masses (in pretending they were talented) or if she could throw them into a dark basement and let them rot.. now I know!
