I just got my picture taken by SideshowBob for the first time last nite. Wooooo! :D :raveon: Photographers rock. I never want to bring my camera to the clubs cause I'm afraid ti will get stolen, and also, I can't take those pretty full-color pics of the whole club, and those are the ones that I show people on some random website when I have to explain "This is nation" etc. Good visual aids!

Pics are crucial. Haven't you been gathered around a computer after a party staring at pictures?

Maybe I just dreamed that...

...pictures are crucial, I will say that...however...

EVENTUALLY photographers begin to take on certain elitist/celeb type attitudes...and become a royal pain in the ass...

And, on the other side, once a face gets recognized behind the camera... people start bein' dicks about the pictures and pull that whole "What? What do you MEAN you don't want to take my picture?" thing...

this is like a really bad popularity contest:shrug:

some photographers see it all as a competition, oh well. I have said it before and I will say it again, all of us approach the job in a completely different manner, and we all take completely different pictures. Some of us are there for positive reasons, and sadly some of us are there for negative ones.

Whatever the reason, I LOVE the fact that we have such wonderfully talented photographers documenting the history of our culture in such a marvelous way.

I voted for the first one. :D and all of you should too.

Here is my serious view of photorgaphy at events.

Other then the obvious of capturing the moment and keeping memories, it promotes the parties, scene, DJs, clubs, crews...ect.

It shows people the real aspect of the scene, rather then the all-negative created by news.

You guys have no idea how many people contact me to ask about parties, what to do where to go, ect... Lots of new people that are just getting into the scene. They search the web to find out where they can go and how good it is.

Well, pictures are the best way to convey the atmosphere at any party. There is truth in "A picture is worth many words"

You have to remember, that this is not just for people AT the club. Sites can be found through search engines by people from all over the world....

I get hits from MANY different countries. Turkey, Korea, Brasil, Canada, just about anywhere in Europe... and many more. And countless states and cities in USA

You can't buy this publisity

Now, with such power comes responsibility. With all the negative publicity around EDM, I can understand why clubs want to have control of what the outside sees. This is why camera access is limited to many places.

I don't really think it is a matter of how many photographers are there. I think it is more of "can these people be trusted to represent the parties/scene they way it really is?"

Think about it this way. Photographers are the only visual counterweapon to *insert your favorite shock-news team* bent on scaring its viewers.

Just like "A picture is worth many words", a BAD picture is ALSO worth many words. And if all you see are BAD pictures(i don't mean bad photographs, just bad representation), you then think it is all bad..... We try to counteract that.

On the numbers note. You always need more then 1. I don't know how many is "too many", but 1 is too few. Diversity and friendly(and it is friendly, i consider all photgraphers friends) competition improves skills, shows different aspects. It makes photographers be more creative and not stale.

I've learned a lot from SSB, Joey, Kathy and many others. Sometimes it wasn't anything that i didn't know before, but it was done in the way that i never thought about... Competition is NOT a bad thing as long as it is friendly, and i think it is.

And i am very, very, very happy and honered just by the mear fact that I was named in this poll...(rather then be "other"). And by the fact that people make it easy for me to do this....
I don't know, i do this to help everyone here and also for me.

It is an unbelievable feeling when what you do is apreciated by so many people that I don't even know.. All the money(and it is not cheap), time, effort, driving, sleepless nights, etc... ALL THAT IS WORTH IT!!!!!!!

SO THANK YOU GUYS!!!! you make it all worth it.

Ok, sorry about the rambling, i'll stop now...

I agree with many of the things that were already said in a positive light on behalf of photographers at the edm events and I don't think I'm just being biased. I've had people contact me from other cities, states and countries to compliment our parties based on the photos taken at the events to tell us how lucky we are to have what we have (and we are lucky to have this). I'm also honored to be a part of this scene and enjoy giving positive exposure on behalf of the promoters, clubs, dj's, edm fans....I make it a point not to take any photo that could be misconstrude as incriminating and I also do not take a photo if someone asks me not to. Most of the time I get people asking me to take a photo of their group of friends (for the memories) or a single person jumping in front of me chanting, "Take me! Take me!" One memorable session was when a group of dancers at Trust asked if I could take their pictures as they were spinning on their heads because they wanted to send the image to their parents and families to show them what they could do.

Not lately, but I have been asked in the past if I'm a reporter or if I'm from Fox5 (I'm neither) so I can understand the anxiety photographers might instill or the controversial appearance we portray carrying around our photo equipment also based on some of the negative press edm has received in the past. I was an edm fan first, photographer of events second. As always many thanks to buzzlife for tremendous opportunities, all of you involved in promoting the awesome parties we know and love, to my fellow photographers, and to all of you dedicated edm fans--I thank you all for letting me briefly impose on your good times to capture the magic that is the edm scene.

A journalist requested to use some of my pictures for an article in the local d.c. periodical and I made sure that it was for good spin on the scene. It was and it felt good to be able to contribute to something like that.

i hate having my picture taken when Im doing something bad. My mom has caught on to the pic sites, she wants to seem intersested in what Im doing with 50% of my time. I jsut hate when she sees pics of me doing stupid shit.

But I love having pictures of some of my coolest getups. its a way to remember how cool I can be sometimes.

I'll admit it, I like having my picture taken. Luckily, I don't think there are any really awful pictures of me out there...although there are some where I don't look "my best" due to a little too much Vodka. (Genna, you know what I'm talking about!) But seeing the bad pictures is always a motivation to not get so damn drunk next time.

I think the whole pictre taking thing is deffinitly a bit of a popularity contest among the kids who want to be on the picture sites. But I do enjoy seeing the pictures of me and my friends, or whoever else.

omg, I could not agree with you more.

It really is soooooooooo hard for photographers like me when the same exact people every single week ask for their picture. I do not want to be a dick and tell someone that I don't want to. But at the same time, I HATE HATE HATE HATE taking photos of the same people over and over again.

Some people are just picture whores and as SOON as they see me (as they do every single week) they run up and demand a photo. It's really hard to be nice and say no.

One of the plus sides here is the new Buzzlife Photo Policy and Photographers. With new photographers changing out every 3-4 months there is a new set of photos to see, new eyes behind the lens, and new people in the pictures they take.

:D

While I like having pictures of my friends, I'd really rather wander around the club and take pictures of people I don't know.. instead of the same people all the time. It makes things more interesting. At least for me :D.

Having pictures of your friends is nice.

However, having a picture taken of your booty while your trying to dance in a skirt is bad.

Not allowing cameras into events is retarded. I can understand maybe video cameras because of bootlegging concerns, but come on, people should be allowed to take photos at events. If you dont want your picture taken, if someone is pointing a camera at you, tell them not to or turn away. If you're bringing a camera, be considerate of others. Nation not allowing unauthorized cameras is, in my opinion, a HUUUUGE detraction from the quality of the event.
