View Full Version : What is too small, average, too big?
LadyJ

What does everyone think is a normal size/weight vs. height? I've never given it much though, but it's been brought up several times today. First, I was listening to Elliot in the Morning on the way to work and Kyle (their intern) said that a girl who called in (5'6", 125lbs) was "a little heavy." Then I saw the MJ mugshot which stated that he is 5'11", 120lbs.
Now I'm a firm believer in health as opposed to looks, but this has me curious. I think that both of those examples I mentioned sound really tiny. I'm 5'4", 140lbs and I think that's pretty average.
Discuss.

I'm 5'5, 125 pounds and if anyone called me heavy I'd tell em to go get their eyes checked.
Then beat them up.

I think you're normal. Everyone has their own idea of what 'normal' is. 5'6 and 125 lbs is almost anorexic! The media is the reason why so many woman are throwing up their dinner these days.
It's sik.

I'm 5' 1"ish, and I weight about 115 (last time I checked)
Back when I was in high school, I weighed about 103 and I had abs. I miss those days.

Absolutely. I don't think weight is really an issue so much as body fat.

Well, weight is not what is important here.
It is a fact that muscle weighs more then fat.
For example, I am 5'11" and weigh 225.
I am not over weight, but I work out 5 days a week.

BUT! I like a woman with a little curve, if I see ANY bones, you're nasty...flat out, NASTY. That does not look attractive, but a nice soft belly...that's what I like. it's all relative .. proportion, muscle mass, body fat, and how its distributed. i have a friend whose 5'5" and weighs 140, but even the "guess-your-weight" guy at the beach said she looked 125. its so silly the way we worship numbers on a scale.

:werd: I totally agree. The only reason I know my actually weight is because one of my roommates has a scale. I actually get a kick out of making people guess my weight. It's just a number. I don't understand why people like to keep it a secret. Whether everyone knows your weight or not, you still look the same.

LOL. I used to wear really baggy clothes. I lost a LOT of weigh without trying and I didn't even realize it because my clothes were already baggy anyway. I went to the doctor one day and they asked me how much I weighed. I told them and then when I got on the scale, I was 20lbs less. That was a pretty cool surprise. I am currently 20lbs less than THAT. My doctor is concerned, but I'm not complaining!

I've read that the average height/weight chart used by the mediacl industry currently is actually heavier than what average should be per weight class, it's been changed due to american's diets and the fact that so many people are overweight. Before anybody takes offense, I haven't seen anyone post in this thread that I would even think of as heavy.
Personally I know I'm a little underweight, but being as how I'm able to lift things at work that other people who weigh more than me have trouble with, I'm not really worried about it.

I'm 5'5 140 and i think i could stand to loose a little weight but when i look at other people with similar builds i think they look good. Its hard to detach yourself from it to make a judgment on your own looks. I think that as long as someone is not risking their health with their body weight (either too much or too little) its okay. I get sick when I see some of these models who are 5'10 and 95lbs that just cant be healthy but at the other extreme if you're 5'10 and 300lbs that cant be healthy either.
Thats my two cents...

My weight fluctuates a lot I don't know by scale but some weeks my pants are tight other weeks they're falling off my :booty: Senior year in high school thru college I used to weigh myself every morning and every night... I think my OCD kicked in or something. Now, I just go by the mirror and how my clothes fit. Who cares about the number IMO if you're comfortable and healthy then you don't need a scale.

interesting thread jami... those guys need a swift kick in the ass for calling someone who is 5'6" 125 "a little heavy" but then again guys are absolutely clueless about girls weight.
i am 5'5" and weighed about 145 until a year ago. i lost 20 pounds (by accident) when my lifestyle, diet and exercise habits changed. the only reason i think my life is better weighing less is that i am in much better shape (if you have been to my house, i couldn't have managed the stairs being in bad shape) and my back doesn't hurt on a daily basis because my muscles are stronger.
i think the wrong people in this country are obsessed with weight. some of the tiniest people i know are constantly worried about how the look and the amount of obese people i see daily sickens me. (i am not saying slightly heavy-- seriously OBESE)
by the way, i am seriously impressed with how many girls told their weight in this thread. hooray for healthy body images!

I'm 5'5" and 113lbs. I think I'm pretty tiny. I appear shorter because my frame is so small. I used to be like 140 pounds, but I had an ass like J. Lo and was a 34C. I started running and watching what I eat more and I got really tiny, to the point people thought I had an eating disorder. So I stopped running and now this is where I am. I like being so little in some ways but I also have nothing of an ass now and needed to buy much smaller bras. I would like to put on some weight so I'm eating really badly again, you know candy at midnight stuff like that. I need to start working out again because I have a lot of back problems and my physical therapist said that I dont have enough muscle in my back to support my spine and it keeps curving. I think I'm gonna try stuff with weights because I can't afford to get any skinnier. So to sum it up I think someone of my stature is tiny. The average american woman according to glamour is 5'3" and 138lbs.

 Honestly... Lemme see... When I first started on my whole weight-anxiety thing... I was about 16, had JUST hit my full height of 5'6" - and discovered that being a healthy 140 was "TOO FAT". Eating disorders ensued. I got down to about 112, did permanent damage to my heart and lungs (smoking ^.^), and STILL thought I was too fat... I'm about 118-120 now, but it wavers depending on how much stress I'm under/how much partying I do... and I still battle with eating disorders that are triggered by depression, stress and a whole SLEW of physical ailments... The body does play a lot into someone's concept of beauty, but have you ever seen an anorexic's face? ...
