JOHNNY DEPP, that wacky pirate of the Caribbean, has already played wacky gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson in a movie - "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." But once is not enough for Johnny. He'll again portray Thompson in the film version of Thompson's "The Rum Diaries," due to shoot early next year in Costa Rica. This time Depp wants to prep properly. He'll move in with Hunter, and observe the writer in his lair for a few weeks prior to filming.

And Depp too. He's one of the best actors out there, and my own personal favorite.

I heard about this about twp years ago. Glad to hear they are going through with it. I don't think that this one is directed by Terry Gillium, however, which is a shame. He did an amazing job on Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas.

Depp's my favorite too  Has been ever since Betty & June.

Believe it or not. Benicio Del Toro is directing The Rum Diaries.

Depp's been mine since Cry Baby, believe it or not, mostly because they were filming at my middle school while we were in class.

That's sweet that Benicio Del Toro is directing. I wonder what his look will be like.

A lot of it is exaggeration... not to say that he is normal, but he's not as crazy as he portrays himself in his books.

Um...no it's not. He's on the Board where I work and he can't manage coming to the Board meetings anymore because he can't stay sober..

Just to let you guys know which probably you dont that the first
film of Thompsons was made in 1983 "Where the buffalo Roam"
and stars Bill Murray who portrayed thompson wonderfully various blockbusters carry it. Murray took a whole season off of Saturday night live for this movie and was so involved with the character it took him months to shake of Thompson. Its a good movie which is about the nixon campaign trail.

As I said, it's not to say that he's normal at all. The stories are an exaggeration, false, but an exaggeration.

the Rum Diaries is a hysterical book about drinking and excess in costa rica.

he beats up an old woman on the plane ride down. from that moment, i was hooked.

Hardly being able to speak and drooling all over yourself doesn't sound much like an exaggeration...sad...but true!

Again, I'm not saying that he doesn't have his... personal habits or cases of psychosis. But the sheer amount of substances he intakes at the rapid rate that he reports would kill him. I don't care what kind of tolerance someone can build up.

I saw HST on Conan, a stage hand had to snatch the cocktail outta HST's hand when he emerged from behind the curtain with it.

I also heard Johnny Depp is playing Willy Wonka in the re-making of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Gene Wilder is the best willy wonka ever even though
depp will do a great portrayal. Gene wilder is the man
for many reasons. Being boys with the greatest comedian
of all "Richard Fucking Prior".

Its in pre production now..Concidering Hunter S. Thompsons death and Depps work on the pirates trilogy its quite understandable that it was put on hold a little.
