I will never ever understand the logic of corporate america... Everybody wants experience when applying for a job. So if no one will hire me without experience WHERE THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO GET EXPERIENCE!?!?!?!?!?

I recently found out that the job I currently have (as an intern) will not be panning out into a full time contracted job. It really pisses me off cause I moved 200 freakin miles to come here under the impression that I would have a job when the internship is up. The Pres and Vice Pres of the company (its small) called me into the Pres' office the other day and told me that they are going to keep me on as a freelancer, which pretty much means that they can dump me whenever they want. Even if I stay on I wont get benifits, sick days or holiday pay. When I took the internship they made it seem like I would have a job at the end (they only take 1 intern a year and they have hired every one untill now) They tell me that they are not sure what the workload is going to look like so they cant offer me a position right now. I think its bull shit. The pres is often too nice for his own good and I think he is stringing me along untill after x-mas cause he doesnt want to fuck up my holiday.

No offense ya'll but I really dont like MD much. I guess its mostly cause I dont know many people here and spend the majority of my nights watchin TV playing video games and posting on buzzboard but I have a year lease and I have to stay at least untill august but I dont know how I can afford my apartment unless I can find another job that will pay around the same amount I am currently making.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY VIDEO/ AUDIO PRODUCTION JOBS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE? I'LL TAKE ANYTHING IN THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS FIELD OR IN MARKETING (i have degrees in both)BUT NO FREAKIN EXPERIENCE!!!!!

Fuck corporate america, fuck them right in the ear...

whew... I actually feel a little better now...

I cant help you on with a job or anything like that, but I can tell you this 'Get the hell out of Fredneck". (If your from Fredneck Im sorry.) Come hang out in Baltimore for a weekend, get the feel of a city back in your blood. It will do a world of good. PM if you need someone to hang with.

A lot of people graduate college naively beleiving their BA is enough...now adays they care more about experience.

To get experience, you simply have to start very small time and work your way up, via internships, part-time, etc.

I'm afraid bboy is right..I could have said I told you so, but I didn't and I'm sure it would just piss you off...interstingly enough I have a degree in a similar field ...(post-production).stuff like that...the job market is flooded with young people who have degree's in cool fields...problem is there aren't that many cool jobs...I had to find out the hard way myself....luckily for me I was 23 when I decided to give up the ghost and look for work in another field...I now do surveying/auto-cadd type stuff and although it is not something I thought I would ever be doing, nor is it something I particularlly wish to keep on doing ..it pays well and I work with really cool people...it's kind of like what they say at the end of "office space"...nobody really likes there job they just do it...very few people I know are actually doing what they first set out to do..I'm not saying this to discourage you only to help you keep a realistic perspective...also keep in mind the older you get without really "getting that foot in the door"...the harder it becomes..my advice to you is to keep trying and if nothing pans out then start looking elsewhere...believe me I know exactley what your going through and it sucks...but don't let other oppurtunities pass you by, because you will regret it..peace...:chug

Yeah I'm 24 almost 25 now and I can go to an employer and say I have 6 years experience in the graphic desin / web design field and have a big enough portfolio to prove it. I started very small and very weakly ($6.25 an hour at the Diamondback at UMCP doing graphic design slave work) and now am doing much better. Good references and if your field allows it, a good portfolio speak volumes and can mean the difference.

Ive never had any employer verify my college status, I could have lied and put several BA's and they probably wouldnt have checked. What they did check was my references and portfolio.
