Has anyone read this yet? I read it last week and thought it was one of the better books I've read this year. What's amazing about it is that everything Brown uses is factual.

factual? Well yes and no.

Based on actual conspiracy theories, yes, but I doubt there is much substance to them. Have you read Foucalt's Pendulum, by Umberto Eco?

a lot of the research is supposed to be based on this book, which btw, apparently influenced The Matrix somehow--- It's about the Merovingians, a group of French Kings which protect the bloodline of christ---

The Merovingians are a big part of the Da Vinci code - Brown's story says that they are the actual bloodline of Christ and MM... I haven't read Focolt's Pendulum yet - that's my next book. I'm not religious at all, but I find this kind of stuff fascinating...

Have you read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn?

Ray, check out Bloodline of the Holy Grail (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=38LJ9BA02L&sourceid=&srefer=&pcount=0&isbn=0760707359) by Lawerence Gardner. It deals with similar source material and is a very interesting read.

And then after you read all this serious conspiracy theory stuff, you need to kick back with a copy of

The Illuminatus! Trilogy, by Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0440539811/104-4625165-1533535?v=glance

which is seriously funny and which will completely blow your mind.

That was one of the most classic scenes I have ever witnessed. Big ups to Cody for indulging us - bigger ups to Lauren and the rest of the wrestlers for kicking some serious ass that night!

I finally read this book and even though the so called facts were intriguing the plot on the whole was alright not too captivating. I half expected a mid-air fight scene to the death in there but was left disappointed :sadblue:

The shocking rite that Sophie stumbles onto was quite predictable, infact the 1st time he describes it the scene from Eyes Wide Shut came to mind.

At the end it felt like a college textbook of sorts on Pagan worship and rites.

this book is the dopest ever...all facts...i read this book after taking history 101 here at VCU, nothing in the book contradicted my history lessons...(yes, i know the murder story was false, and some depictions of Opus Dei and other organizations might be amped up a lil' but, still, everything is factual)

:werd: you have to be able to distinguish fact from fiction/theory with Brown.

a good example is in Angels and Demons where he explains all the symbolism represented on the one dollar bill as the marks of the illuminati. While his explanation is convincing, there are many explanations as to what the pyramid, the great eye, and the latin phrases on the bill actually meant. Most of these explanations contradict one another.

so really, what Brown does ALOT, is stretch historical gray area (ie the presence of strange symbols on the dollar bill) and presents them as fact in his conspiracies.
