Organized religion is flawed, but it's better than no belief system at all. I was raised Catholic, I don't believe in a lot of the teachings (ie;birth control) but I think it provided a good foundation for my beliefs until I was mature enough to figure out stuff on my own.

i was raised baptist, but i studied catholism ans its roots in college, i probably shouldnt voice my opinion on the subject.

I was brought up catholic, I attended religious schools+extra religious education on the weekends. Evenings I was subjected to 2 hours of praying rosaries and novenas with my family.

Though I do not agree with some of the beliefs

who are any of you to question/put down someone elses belief system?

To be really blunt, I doubt any of you who were "raised catholic" actually studied the origins and history and culture of the religion itself.
I doubt any of you were immersed in religion 24/7 to have any justification for being REALLY bitter about being brainwashed.
something like 60% of catholics don't even attend regular masses.

Though, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I have no bitterness or ill feelings to the catholic church. I belive like any religion out there they all have their flaws

If you want to use something like this as a crutch...feel free. If believing in a God will make you feel better about waking up in the morning, who is anyone to put that down?

Unless of course, they are pressuring you to join.

If anyone has seen Dogma, I have firmly adopted the philosophy expressed in the film. The point is that you have faith, and hope that everything will work out in the end. Building a belief system is fundamentally flawed and will create more problems than solutions.

actually i was raised VERY catholic. studied the origins. made it through the sacraments, got in trouble with the nuns, went to catholic school girl camp during the summer. and i'm straight up NOT INTO THE RELIGON. parents shouldn't baptize children when they are babies. the end.

how about Opus Dei? Is THAT anyone's religion on here (probably not considering you're not allowed to use electricity)? this crazy bitch from my school tried once to get me to join. You have to give your salary to the church, and then they give you a STIPEND for what you need. Its like being Amish, but worse! Cuz they expect you to go out and work for a living, and then give it all to them! And then all of your friends have to be possible recruits to the Opus Dei religion. I don't know what its a branch of. I don't know shit about religion. When i was in Catholic school i used to get upset because i didn't get to eat a wafer. It turned out this was because i wasn't baptized. My grandmom told me i'm going to hell because of this. I'm getting accustomed to the idea.

The beauty of catholicism, Is that its okay to disagree. Disagree with god, your parents, your friends, yourself. Its no okay to go against what u feel and know to be true. Its a Sin :)

Well In retrospect. Im sure all your yahoo Catholic parents beat so much self rightous, supreamest catholic crap into your skulls that you missed the point. Think For Yourself. That is of course the nature of free will. Your Job, is mearely to use your head.

Catholics love to play who is more catholic. But in the end its not about that, its about your relationship with god and doing what u feel is right.. to each their own discernment yah know. Afterall its about love yo.

Anyway.. Thats my catholic tidbit.. Im applying for Pope. Vote me in. :)

I was born & raised in Utah and not mormon. I couldn't say the way I was treated because I wasn't mormon when I was young by other kids and their families was amusing, let alone nice. I have come to the conclusion that organized religion in general sucks.

prosecuting - be it hatred, flaming, any kind of negativity - for people having religion is just as bad as prosecuting people for having the wrong religion. if you want to be better than that, then you have to be above that.

religion is never the problem, closed-mindedness is. its just a shame they so often come in the same package.

They are different in Utah than the rest of the country, trust me. For example, the mormons in the DC area are generally very nice and accepting of all people.

Some in Utah feel that they are the chosen ones, and even more so because they live in Utah. I brieftly lived out in UT, and was treated not so nicely because I was not a Utah native.

Oh I know that. I had been told in the past from friends who were from California and mormon that moved to Utah that they asked to be ex-communicated because of that exact reason. I personally think people should have the right to choose, and if you are not of the majority you shouldn't be looked down on.

Wow. That's not right. That's completely not what the religion is about at all. Sorry to hear that.
