special effects were off the hook. The ending ruined the whole trilogy. I hope they make another matrix movie were the machines blow themselves up.
I give it a ** out of ***** rating.

Matrix was tight. I liked it a lot. Matix's special effects at it's best. The war scene was the best by far. As for the ending, if you guys watched the Animatrix, you will know that there cannot be peace between the humans and machines for a long period of time. I think if The Wachowski Brothers decide to continue the trilogy, then it's gonna be at least 5-10 years from now.
OVERALL RATING = 8

Great special effects, awesome fight sequences, ending brought everything full circle. . . . There can never be peace. . . everything in life has a begining and an end. With that philosophy it is hard to have a definitive ending to a movie series.

*SPOILERS*
It was bad...the ending fight scene between neo and smith..oh ok..they hit each other..bounce..hit each other..bounce..ok..*zzzzz*
Then neo wins by..becoming a suicide bomber! yay!
The HUGE climatic battle? With the machines? umm..ok they fly in..and umm..fly around..yes like a million sentinels just kinda fly around..admiring the scenery..maybe reading a magazine..while about 25 mechs shoot at them..ok..25 mechs vs like 500,000 sentinels? uh..why wernt they massacred? How could you possibly put up a good defence by just STANDING there?
I wanted them to explore the oncept of the first child born of love from the machine world..neo could look into her code and see a beating heart..or a special glow unlike anything else..kinda like seraphs code.
But nope..we dont see that.
Neo could have fought the architect as a special bonus fight after he defeats smith by getting overwritten..then once hes overwritten he invades smiths code and blows him up from the inside!
Or..they culda had them zap neos body..killing him and smith..but neos mind continues to live! what? yes indeedthe mind CAN live without the body! thats why neo lived after being shot by bulelts..and how he brought trinity back..and the meaning of his words "I know you can hear me" after she was clearly dead.
And thus..matrix shows us what makes us fundamentaly diferent than machines..we are more the sum of our parts..we have souls....but nope..they didnt do that either.
what utter bullshit. The movie ends leaving us right back where we started..a matrix ruled by machines..big whoop..there was no point to the movies with an ending like that. What a let-down.

Storyboard following is cool, but now I'm more of a 'on the fly' type mentality, ie I need to own the DVD of Kill Bill v.1. QT supposedly scrapped mad fight scenes and reshot loads of stuff, hence the overrun in budget and creation of v2 coming out in Feb.

maybe everyone had such high expectations or their own personal expectations and can't comprehend that maybe the end is the same as the beginning, not forgetting that this is the 7th time Neo has done this? the point is that there is no one answer, there is no mass majority of acceptance, its all based on individuality and what we are willing to give up in order to gain. for Neo it was peace and love and to achieve that he has to accpet that the machines will still be there.
sidenote: what would make humans different from the machines if we wiped them all out? would that make our world any better? would it improve the well being of our species? war is good only when we are the victor?

are you kidding me? do you have any idea how much money that would cost alone? not to mention the fact the money spent on the special effects. I understand your thought on creativity and sometimes its better on the fly but find me a production company that will back you on this idea for a film such as the matrix.

I thought I'd share some of my insights... First, why Trinity is a program. When she died in the second movie, she came back to life (similar to how Neo and Smith both die in the first movie but come back) because her purpose was not yet completed (her purpose being to bring the figuratively/literally blind Neo to the machine city).
This is why she tells Neo he cannot save her this time, she has finally completed her purpose as all programs have to. Kindof like the Keymaker, who dies as soon as he completes his purpose. To me, Trinity was created to have the One fall in love with her (as the Oracle tells her in the first movie) in order for Neo to go through that left door in Reloaded.
Now, Persephone is the first version of Trinity from the first version of the matrix. In Greek mythology, she was the daughter of Zeus (the architect) and Demeter (Oracle), the mother of the earth's seasons. When Persephone is dragged down to the netherworld (the Matrix) by Hades (Merovingian) her mother causes a dead winter on the earth's surface until she is returned to her. [Slight digression: Why does the Merovingian control the train system? This represents the river Styx, the Greek's portal between the Earth surface and the underworld of heaven and hell, which is controlled by Hades. The dirty bum that conducts the trains is akin to Charon, the boatman of Styx, who ferries souls across the river. Note that "Mobil" Ave. (the sign in the train station) is an anagram for Limbo, which is why Neo cannot escape no matter where he runs.]
*This is what happens at the end of the movie* Sati, the newest version of Trinity, goes back to her mother and Day 1 waits to begin again (which is why there is the creation of light at the end of the movie) when the peace between man and machines ends. "Sati" is the ancient Hindu ritual that a wife performs after her husband dies. Before British rule of India, it was commonplace that a woman would voluntarily burn herself alive if her husband died.
So Sati, like Trinity, is meant to die with her future husband (the next One). I suppose the W bros thought of the name because the last reported case of an actual "Sati" performed in the last 20 years occurred 2 years ago. Also, watch Revolutions again and you'll see Sati's mother is the Architect and her Indian father is the Oracle (who feels the same warmth towards Neo).

from a good (bad) review:
Please say that this is a joke. Please tell me that this was just an amazing expensive prank and they're going to release the real movie soon. I refuse to believe that one of the most mind boggling, and superb movie franchises has been totally, utterly, and embarrassingly ruined. Oh my God, where do I start…lets start with The Matrix, the first movie, never before seen effects, energetic and worthwhile characters, completely original and perfectly written story…an excellent movie probably the best movie of 1999 (the year of The Phantom Menace and American Beauty mind you). All right, let’s move on to the sequel, The Matrix Reloaded. Okay, the first 40 minutes were horribly dull, Zion wasn’t the badass underground city we were expecting, but a large apartment building with Zulu tribal dancers living in it, and nothing really happened until the scene where Neo met with the Oracle. Then the rest of the movie was pretty incredible, great fights, compelling action and story, ending in an interesting cliffhanger. But the best thing about the sequel is how it brought up more cool/confusing questions. What’s all this about 7 other Matrix’s? How did Neo kill those robots at the end, is he in another weird Matrix? What is Smith trying to accomplish? Fast-forward to the biggest cinematic disaster since Batman and Robin, the CRAP-FEST FROM HELL called The Matrix Revolutions, and prepare to have NONE of those questions answered. This movie is nothing short of a NIGHTMARE!!!! Let’s make a Matrix movie that doesn’t take place in the Matrix, and lets focus on characters that we don’t give a flying f**k about. Morpheus does NOTHING in this movie. Trinity does NOTHING in this movie. Neo and Smith do NOTHING that makes any sense. The movie focuses on the morons who live in Zion, it’s like watching homeless people fighting a war to save their shit corners. Who cares about Zion? It’s a crap-hole, and the people fighting in this “war” are the most uninteresting characters EVER!!! I don’t care about that moron kid who’s trying to help, and I don't care about the ass-hole general guy, I don’t care about Link and Zelda (sic) and how much they wuv each utho, and I don’t care about the stupid hippie Jedi council. The problem with these movies is that they killed off all the cool characters in the first one. I miss Tank, Apoc, Mouse, and even stupid Cypher, I could really care less about Niobe, or Ghost, or any of the other retards they introduced in the sequels. Oh, and did I mention the ENDLESS DIALOGUE??? War is coming, let’s have 20 minute conversations about love, or making choices, or how I still believe in “the one” and his unexplained Jedi abilities for no reason. There is so much needless talking in this movie that they should invent a new word in the dictionary for more boring than boring. Then, the whole thing is building up to the big fight with Neo and Smith…WHAT A WASTE!!! All they do is punch each other and cause explosions, if you want a good fight scene see Kill Bill again because this one is about as exciting as watching fireworks at an Isotopes game, and then Smith wins the fight, but then Neo regains his strength and wins, the Smith wins again, then everyone blows up for some reason…and then the movie is over. If you must see this terrible outrage, DON’T PAY FOR IT!!! Download it, sneak in, do whatever you can, because I saw it for free, but if I paid a cent to see this shit-storm I probably would have killed myself. The only thing that’s not taste-your-own-vomit terrible about this movie are the effects, but they’re not even worth it. This brings a whole new meaning to the word disappointment.
Grade: F (wow, that hurt…maybe it is all just a joke, here’s hoping)

It ended just as the architect said it would in reloaded. He said there had been champions before. I think the ending was exactly as it had ended before. For instance my one big problem with the first movie was why didn't the machines simply kill the humans who woke up from the dream rather than flush them out where they could become a problem for them later. This one answered that when the oracle asked the architect what would happen to those who wanted to leave, he said they would be allowed to leave. It's cyclic. I was disappointed with the ending but I didn't think it was as unthought out as most people think it was.

Neo: "Who are you?"
Bane (in a note-perfect Agent Smith voice): "Don't you know, Mr. Anderson?"
Neo: "Tell me who you are?"
BANE: "Mr. Anderson, I think you do know who I am..."
Neo: "No, I don't."
Bane: "Don't you recognize my voice? The Mr. Anderson part?"
Neo: "......."
Bane: "Black suit? Sunglasses?
Neo: "......."
Bane: Receding hairline? 'Mr. Anderson.' Any of this ringing a bell?"
Neo: "That's all fine, but WHO are you?"
OK, so that's exaggerated a little bit, but I found it so damn annoying that for three minutes of dialogue Neo can't figure out that Bane is somehow Agent Smith. Bane is doing his voice and keeps calling him "Mr. Anderson." I mean, c'mon!

My take on it:
1.) this is a movie that would have done well to simply be tacked onto the second because all it was, was the denoument to reloaded. (this was originally how the W. bros had envisioned it.)
however time constraints would def be a big problem, so the best solution would be two simply have two movies and break the second one into two volumes with the split falling somewhere during the second movie. revolutions fails to stand alone because it lacks any form of secondary story. this would be solved by simply making it an extension of reloaded.
2.) can we say 'return of the jedi'?? two battles at the same time, neo using the force, blah blah blah.... the battle for zion= the battle on endore; opening the gate= bringing down the shield; flying through tubes to score the last shot and kind of save the day; neo= luke; smith= vader; chaos spere= emperor. the only difference is that opposed to neo turning smith and the two of them defeating the chaos sphere, luke makes a deal with the emperor and takes out vader.
3.)that damn last fight between neo and smith. the first two movies had super sweet kung-fu sequences. the second started to phase them out and replace them with cgi, and the third all but did away with them completely. the fight between neo and smith is the pinacle of this decision. it looks less like 'the matrix' and more like 'dragon ball z'.
4.)seriph was supposed to have a kick ass fight scene! where the hell did it go!?
i don't have any complaints with the truce ending. it ended the way it had to for the most part. the blatant and cheap hole for another sequal was uncalled for (the architect's closing lines). it could and should have gone without saying.
all in all i give it *** out of ***** it was average. unfortunately the previous two films were above average to excellent, so an average ending just doesn't cut it.

 like i said it was average. but an average ending for a phenominal series doesn't work.
rule #1: never fuck up the ending
a bad ending can destroy all the greatness that came before it.
revolutions wasn't terrible. it was a popcorn movie. the problem is that you've come to expect more than just flashy effects and good action from a 'matrix' installment. (and yes, the action was only 'good'. certainly not great or excellent or mind blowing. i would have coregraphed the fight sequences differently. it's amazing what a difference live action can make.)

I don't understand where anyone gathered that the ending was the same as it was "before" (which is something I've read before)? They spelled out how the cycle usually worked in the second movie. There was no comparison. One of the main concepts here is the concept of "choice." Before, "The One" would be allowed to take a small group of people and reform Zion after it was destroyed by the machines. Now, a peace has been entered and those in the Matrix will be given the choice to either continue their existance there, or enter into the real world.
Regardless, I hear a recurring complaint from people about the concept of the humans and machines sort of establishing peace. This is silly. If you've seen the Animatrix episodes the one thing they established there was that the machines initially wanted a world where machines and humans could co-exist and it was the humans who initiated the conflict. So, is it really too far a stretch that when there's a common threat to both races they can put aside their differences and deal with it. perhaps even establishing some level of peace with it?
bottom line: remove the cheesiness ("thank you Neo, wherever you are," the whole long ass "I have 8 poles sticking through my body but enough breath to spend 20 minutes delaying you from doing anything to reach your goal," etc...) and a very logical ending was reached...
Now none of this is to say that I liked the movie. I have a serious issue with the Wachowski Brothers after watching the third movie. A concept I was reserving judgement on till the third movie.
When you tell a story (be it a novel, film, tv show, whatever) the storyteller and the audience have an implied contract pertaining to willful suspension of disbelief. In this, the audience agrees to forego the "that could never happen" comments so long as the storyteller establishes a set of rules within the realm of his/her story and then stays within those boundaries. This is pretty well established in the first film, and followed through for about 90% of the second film. Everything works, up to and including Smith's "posession" of a person in the real world.
Then they throw some shit at you, which they then proceed to make a half-attempt to explain in the first half of Revolutions. They broke their own rules in nothing more than what I could see as an attempt to facilitate later elements in the story. (which, in theory, could have been done in other ways that may not have been as visually impressive).
And that's easily more than I've ever posted at one time to the Buzzboard... so I'll stop now... but only after pointing out that somehow all of this calls to mind Dead Milkmen lyrics:
"you've got a methodist coloring book and you color really well,
but don't color outside the lines or god will send you to hell."

Revolutions Coming Home Sooner Than We Thought?
Lackluster box office & online piracy may mean more Neo for Christmas.
November 11, 2003 - When is a film that grosses $85 million in its opening weekend considered a disappointment? When you're Warner Brothers and the film is Matrix Revolutions, the third and final(?) installment in the popular Matrix trilogy.
While the film posted the third highest opening box office total for a Wednesday open, the studio expected the film to come in at number 1. The $85 million in box office receipts from Wednesday to Sunday fell well below expectations as did the $200 million internationally. Like most films in release today, copies of the movie appeared in various Internet groups just hours after the film opened, causing more concern for the studio.
Worried that the time to make money from the franchise may be running out faster than expected, representatives for Warner Home Video contacted some of the major video retailers and rental outlets on Monday to let them know that Revolutions may be coming home a lot sooner than expected. Early January was mentioned but if the box office continues to drop at its current pace, Matrix Revolutions could hit DVD before Christmas.
Adding insult to injury, a possibility was mentioned to one video dealer that the studio may try putting together a 3-movie boxed set for Christmas if Revolutions is released in time to show up in your holiday stocking. According to one video dealer that spoke to IGN FilmForce on condition of anonymity, "Warners is afraid that Revolutions won't sell very well because of the word of mouth on the movie. The only way to make the money on sell-through is to package it with the other two." The retailer went on to say that the number of requests for the film have dropped significantly since the film's opening day.
The big test for the film will be how it fares in its second weekend, when it will be up against the Russell Crowe star

I think, just like the last one, the people who are in the know will come around on this one. Each time the number of people who get everything that happened immediately has diminished, as I suspect the overall numbers of people who get it have. Regardless, I think some of the analysis that has been given to this series proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a very important movie.
One thing I should point out is that not that many people have played their way through the video game, which I think needs to be considered as much a part of the series as movies. I don't think it was a good game, mind you, just as I think some of the action sequences in the new one could be a lot better, but it does at least explain why these seemingly random characters are important.
Same with the Animatrix. I still wonder if there wasn't some stuff cut out of this movie that dealt with issues like the kid. I'm interested more in his character than I feel like I got to see. Who knows, maybe there is more to the story in the online game... or maybe that's just the first level of the Matrix.
I think it was a good movie and a better trilogy.
