Premise Notes: (5/25/03) Talking to Launch.com, Marques Houston compared this movie to another hip-hop street dancing movie, 1984's Breakin', which is probably most famous for being followed (in the same year!) by the oft-referenced sequel, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Premise: This hip-hop comedy explores the social subculture of street dancing, focusing on a pair of friends, David (Omarion) and Elgin (Houston), who want to open their own hip-hop dance and recording studio, but in order to do that, they must first win a street dance competition against another group of street dancers to prove that they have talent.

Filming: Production started on May 1st, 2003 in Los Angeles and wrapped up in mid-June, 2003.

i've wanted to see this since the first preview... I know it's going to be the dancing equivelent of Torque and Fast and Furiouser or whatever they called that shit, but I really want to see the dancing. Mmmm.

DC101 had a breakdancer in the station this morning dancing to really sweet remix of "jam on it." It was stupid since nobody listening could see it, but they'll have the video up on the site soon.

evey, the clips i saw were all real, no special effects other than slow motinoning. Bleieve me i've seen enough breakdancing to know. I remember when I first saw someone headspining for like 3 minutes straight I thought it was special effects. It ain't.

This movie has 80% bad reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.com, but the tradiiton of breakdancing movies is they are god awful hehe.

my only complaint is that from what I saw, it was like 35% breakdancing 65% hiphop dance. I'll reserve my final judgement after I see the film.

I'm also WORRIED ABOUT mtv-STYLE FAST CUTTING..THIS IS WHAT RUINED FIGHT SCENES IN MANY MOVIES FOR ME..WHEN THEY CUT SO MUCH YOU CAN'T SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING. cOMPARE THAT TO FIGHT SCENES IN MATRIX, WHERE THE CAMERA OFTEN PANS BACK AND STAYS IN ONE SPOT LONG ENOUGH FOR YOU TO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON...oops caps but im too lazy to go and re-type

i think this movie will be a solid, teen movie, with sweet ass breakdancing in it. i am pretty stoked to see it. i don't expect DYNAMITE writing or anything, but the dancing will redeem it, i think.

like i said it seems its not as much breakdancing as hiphop dance..we'll see..i mean if they do a hiphop routine and then spin on their head I dont count that as breakdancing.

Well Dan, I figure you know what you're talking about. But for instance, the guy who slides on his forehead; either he's got vasoline on it, or someone made a roller skate frame magically dissapear. :D

no thats called a headglide, i can do one too. Of course it dosen't work on concrete but on any respectable dance floor you can slide on it easily, for longer than what they do there too.

OR, the third possibility... which is, he has a roller skate for a forehead!!! HAHA! Never thought of that, huh, toughguy?!

But what about that magical force called "friction"?

bboyneko

your hair acts as a mat..like take your hand and place it in your sleeve, and move it around the floor..it has far less firction than plain skin.

Also remmeber people's heads are not boxes, they are ovals..so when you place your head on the floor only a point of it touches, just like when you place a ball on the floor..now since there is so little surface area on the floor, it reduces friction tremendously. The same is true of headspins.

Yes friction stops the headglide eventually, but with enough force you can glide a long time.

Well, you learn something new everyday. Thanks.

Seeing this tonight. Can't wait.

That headglide thing looks interesting. I think I'll try it on my kitchen floor later on, see if it works.

movie looks horrible

Movie will be utter trash worse than glitter or Honey, but I will see it regardless. Yes headglides are dangrous for the untrained, if your head catches to floor and body flops forward you do have serious possibility of pulling a christopher reeve

its all about the angle i think, i used to bboy back in the day now i just dont have much time to do so.

but if you slide at a certain angle, it's not that hard.

I just watched it:

To make long story short, it was 99.999999 hip-hop dancing (as in the kind of stuff you see in a missy elliot video) and .01 breakdancing.

What pisses me off is they use the tiny bits of breakdancing to sell the movie in the trailers and even in the fucking poster, but the actual film is all c-walks and harlem shakes. What utter bullshit.

The new modern breakdancing movie has yet to be made.

all movies should have cheerleading or dancing or beauty pageants. everyone should watch bring it on, center stage, drop dead gorgeous, save the last dance, i can't think of any more off the top of my head.
