View Full Version : I hate Alchemy

Based on last night, I have come to the conclusion that I hate Alchemy. All of their "DJs" were complete train wrecks...one of them even played the Zombie Nation song, right after the Blade anthem. Then he busted into some industrial. The mass exodus from the dance floor was impressive.

The Alchemy "live acts" totally sucked. The first "band" sounded like a crappy high school garage band; the dancers were just lame; and My Robot Friend was beyond pathetic. What the hell was with the monotone monologue at the end of their "performance"? So bad, so very bad.

And who was playing on the patio? Worst mixing skills ever. Stadium trance to electro to breaks. Yuck.

I will say that some of the Alchemy costumes were cool, but mainly they were creepy. And not in a good way.

Basically, Alchemy ruined the Buzz/Cubik atmosphere. I regret getting to Nation so early last night. Besides the DnB room, there was no dancing until after midnight. Putting up with three hours of that Alchemy garbage ruined my night.

Alchemy booked the night first, before Buzzlife even announced they were going back to Nation.

I personally think it's great that ravers and goths can co-exisist so well at a party.

i think it's great that alchemy even LET buzzlife have djs at the party, since they booked it first! of course, it was also a fabulous business move by them as well.... i mean, the place was packed... alchemy wouldn't have been able to do that alone!

Their Dj's arent really concerned with mixing. Thats not the style of dj's they are. So i'm pretty sure they dont give a shit if they trainwreck or which song goes where. They play songs they like or the know the crowd likes, period.

while this is true, to a great extent, i have seen some fucking awesome industrial/techno-industrial/EBM/etc djs.... at alchemy, even. front 242 was great when they were there. vnv nation's dj, while not imo a great dj, certainly didn't trainwreck at all during his recent set there... which is more than i can say about richard humptyvission the last time i saw him. so yeah.

I was talking to some people last night how good it is that we all get along. There is no animosity at all between the ravers and the goths from what I have seen and I say, let's keep it that way!

Well, if this is the case what's the difference between most of the Alchemy DJ's and the DJ's at Platinum or Dream. Most people on this board have talked about how bad those DJ's are and how much it kills the atmosphere. That about sumed it up last night. Bad song after bad song made dancing almost impossible and killed my buzz. I would have rather seen Tiesto play Southern Sun over and over. I go for the music!

Look, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Just because I hate Alchemy doesn't mean I don't have any respect for Goths. It just means that I don't like their music/scene and won't be going to any of their parties.

From attending Buzzlife events in the past, I've come to expect a certain level of skill in DJs. Alchemy DJs just don't measure up.

The live acts don't measure up either. Compared to Rabbit in the Moon or Electric Sky Church, My Robot Friend was ridiculous. And I'm sure I'm not alone in my opinion, as the dance floor really got packed as soon as they were done. I even heard booing and the occasional "You suck!" from the crowd as they were "playing".

Sure, ravers and goths should all get along and then they can all hold hands and hug in complete underground plurry bliss. They can teach each other how to make kandi bracelets and apply black eyeliner. They can learn about their respective music genres/scene. As long as they don't do it on Friday nights at Nation, it's fine with me.

I think the whole point everyone came up with was...fine and dandy but alchemy booked it first and if you didn't like alchemy DJs in the first place why'd you come...John Tab was out front so I chilled out there for most of the Alchemy DJs....If you couldn't find a way to have fun friday night then you were just not looking to have a fun time...I met people, they place was packed...and if u saw Scott Henry or Amanda...they both had this wicked smile on they're face seeing nation packed....let's just say the party was a sucess i'm sure we hit some big attendance numbers, everyone had some fun, everyone that enjoys nation, including both ravers and goths had they're time in the main room and that's how it shoulda been... And hell look forward to Paul Oakenfold and Cystal Method...Look to the future dont dwell in the past....

i already addressed this in a different thread (HERE (http://www.buzzlife.com/mssg_brd/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24367&perpage=15&pagenumber=2)) but i figure i'll say something here too.

easy people - i dont think getting down on tinkerbelle is necessary.

she does have a valid point and is allowed to express it.

i don't personally like the music they play at Alchemy, or the way their dj's spin. that being said - i do respect the fact that people DO like that style of music. whatever...its not for me. i'm sure i like stuff that they fucking hate.

tinkerbelle - i think you just gotta understand, alchemy had the club booked - and therefore we had to split the night with them. you thought the music sucked when their DJ's were on - thats fine. it wont be like that next week. or the week after...etc. no reason to be THAT pissed off about it. halloween is all about being weird and shit. just think of it as a night of 'bizarro cübik"...

yeah buster's costume was definitely funny.... and while i agree that people should be free to say what they wish, (me included), i find that saying a particular style of music or even a particular band/whatever "sucks" does not really illustrate the point you are trying to make.... and if i'm a fan of said style/group, i'm almost gauranteed to be at least somewhat offended..... and that's about all such negative criticism gets you. next time, maybe try using phrases such as "android lust really isn't my style of music, i didn't enjoy their show at all, the agression (or whatever) irritated me."

note the use of the first person.... that is that the band didn't "suck," they just didn't appeal to YOU.

if you say what you wanted to say in such a fashion, about the only thing i could say in return is "i'm sorry to hear that you had a bad time, but i enjoyed it." all of the above statements could be considered true... the band "sucking" could not. even if i do use the slang definition. you can't just say that a band or whatever sucks. you must back it up with observations as to why, if you do decide to take that route. like for instance, i think that tool sucks. many many people have asked me why.... since it seems everyone and their brothers and sisters likes tool, it is rare for someone to say "tool sucks." so there's an automatic curiousity sparked, i suppose..... but anyways. i always tell people why i think tool sucks.... it because, to me, i don't sympathize with their music. i also don't really enjoy that particular style of rock music, and that extends to a few other bands i know as well. i will admit that their bass player is freakin awesome. the drums/guitar don't really stand out to me, and i am annoyed by the singer's voice.

so that's why i think tool sucks. many other people would disagree with me.... but by presenting my statement in such a fashion, i avoid offending a bunch of people, AND i promote good conversation.

I don't like Tool, either. I won a choice of 5 different cds from DC101 once and I chose Tool. I only liked one of their songs. I now wish I had chosen Incubus or one of the others. But, my friend liked Tool, so I gave it to him. I don't think they suck, I just don't like them.

yeah well "suck" was being used in context strictly because it was relating to the topic at hand. i don't hate tool. but i definitely don't want to listen to them.... maybe they suck, maybe not, who knows? the english language can be confusing, even to a native speaker! lol. the fact is that so many different things can be meant by the same word.

I agree with you completely, man. Tool does suck.

And she's right, those Alchemy DJs are terrible. It's practically unlistenable.

But I want to say it isn't really necessary to make every criticism a constructive one. Sometimes things just "suck." They defy all other explanation and just "suck." It's a matter of opinion.

I'm not a fan of Alchemy at all and I don't think I'll be going to another party that has both alchemy and buzz, but that doesn't mean I need to stand on a soap box and burn they're way of partying. To each their own.

I love my gay. He's everything a gay should be. A little bit of Carson, with a splash of Kyan. Some times a Thom but is always Jai.

i happen to like both of those tracks but i agree that it would be weird to hear the kernkraft 400 track in a club again... it's a bit 5 years ago... they both rocked in their day though

Most women in the D.C. gothic/industrial scene cannot get away with tight clothing.

Tight clothing on chunky women...not sexy!

My thoughts on the Alchemy/Cubik Halloween party...

Even though it was not perfect, it was cool having the Alchemy and the Cubik crowd at Nation for one night! I had a great time catching up with friends from both scenes! I didn't mind most of the DJ sets, although some were really lacking mixing skills. I cringed whenever I heard one of the Alchemy DJs following a nice synthpop track with a harsh industrial metal track.

As for the live acts on the main stage, I wasn't impressed. There was no act that equalled last year's bands (Hocico, haujobb) at Spooky III.
