I might sound like a nerd to you, but I don't care.
Do any of you girls abstain these days?
Any reasons why or why not?
I'm just wondering.

Abstain from sex.
I don’t really know a lot of virgins anymore.
I myself don’t really go for ‘hook ups’ and one night stands, I just tend to get my luvin’s when I’m in a relationship. I don’t see myself having any sex for a long time. So I guess you could say that I am.

um...let me put it this way. When you were in 5th grade the vast majority of the girls in your class were virgins (I hope) that number dwindled by the time you reached high school. by the time you graduated, many of the girls who started hs as virgins were no longer and many of the ones who were lost it in college. my point is this. the older you get, the less likely you are to find girls of the same age who are virgins. its just the way it is...sorry. If you really want to find a virgin you have two choices.
1)go to a local middle school and take your pick
2)go to a local nunnery and take your pick. (and even many of them are not )

i remember reading somewhere that when ancient south american civilizations sacrificed "virgins" they weren't all virgins...what they called them was "pure womb" or some shit...they were instead performing utereus removal from these women as the sacrifice.....
i read it on the internet,so it must be true
anyways, i quit quit smoking ....so if anyone wants to kick me in the shins, this would be a good time.,..

Why is being a virgin such a virtue? For fucks sake...why are you "better" or more "pure" just because you havent stuck a body member in someones orfice, or allowed someone to? The ridiculous taboo placed on sexuality by western culture never ceases to amaze me.

I know a guy who was trying to retain his virginity and did really well till he got to college. He got drunk and wound up in his bed with some girl. He was trying to save himself for someone special and he never even got her name...bummer. Interesting post script to the story, when he realized what he was doing he jumped out of bed and told the girl he had to go because he had forgotten that a friend had called him earlier threatening to commit suicide (total lie). As far as i know he never saw her again. That was the last virgin in my group of friends.

I don't see what the big deal about being a virgin is either. I sure as hell never missed my virginity...and I'm SO glad I wasn't a virgin on my wedding night. I can't even imagine how horrible that would have been.
I think people really need to consider their reasoning behind abstaining aside from their upbringing.

i think that someone who can obstain from sex is a strong person. i personally think its a good thing. theres been too much emphasis on sex in our culture making it sounds like not doing it is bad. I disagree with all that. I just respect peoples personal decisions.

It would be nice to tell the person that you decide to marry that 'they were your first'. BUT, I feel that if you're going to have one mate through out your life...you need to test the waters and 'get it out of your system'. It's all about happy mediums though. That's not an excuse to go tramping around.

Let's re-phrase your words:
--------------
i think that someone who can obstain from buying fast food or going to the mall is a strong person. i personally think its a good thing. theres been too much emphasis on fast food and consumerism in our culture making it sounds like not doing it is bad.
------------------
Just because someone is strong from abstaining from something emphasized in our culture doesnt make IT a bad thing, or the person abstaining a better person than anyone who indulged.
And it's not just our culture that emphasizes sex, its our hormones. Its natural. Its why we are all here. So again, i think that the level of taboo placed on sexual matters and the degree of value placed on someone who has not had sex is ridiculous.

I completely agree with this; however, in this day and age, i believe abstinance is not such a bad thing. condoms may protect you from HIV and pregnancy, but it does not from those nasty little skin surfers (herpes and warts). i wouldn't think someone who abstains is "more pure" than anyone else, just a whole lot safer.

I think it would be sad if you marry a virgin and they end up being totally horrible in bed. I believe that sex is very important factor in a relationship, but of course, it can't BE the only thing the relationship is about.

same with someone who washes their hands a lot, or gets a flue shot every year. But they shouldn't be considered morally superior to someone who does not, simply more hygenic

yes but its roughly 50% of why long-term relationships work. If the sex is bad the relationship is guaranteed to be doomed

I lost mine when I was 18, my first sexual boyfriend was my kids father, I got pregnant when I was 19. I could have abstained with quite a different result for my life right now I think. I didnt take my virginity as a good thing though, I was just too shy and introverted to take it past first or second base when I was in high school.
College, frat parties, and VTech debauchery changed that. :-p

One of my closer friends is a virgin. She hates it to death, she tells me that about 14 days after her period that she gets the horniest (if I have to hear it, so do all of you). But she was taught, in her respective religion, that it was against God to have sex before marriage. And even though she is hot as hell, a damn fine piece of work, I have always respected her decision and not thrown my ugly ass on her. But look at it like this: You do test drive a car before you buy it. Same with a spouse. You shoudl always test before you buy.
But I've been celibate for two months now (not by choice) and I do feel a little better not having to keep trying for another fix. But one does miss the companionship of a relationship, and of course the sex.
