Just wondering if anyone has come up with a good solution for warped albums? My lazy ass:rolleyes: didn't want to carry my gear out of the vehicle at 4am after a party and the heat the next morning warped my freakin collection! I know I am a freakin idiot...but is there really and sound way of salvaging this collection?:sadblue:

you can get 2 panes of glass, thick glass if you can, and you'll sandwich the record in between. turn your oven onto 200-degrees, and stick the record in to flatten it out. try it for 10 seconds at first, see what it does. if it takes longer, let it in 10-second-longer incriments, being VERY careful. this can destroy the record, you need to be vigilant about it...

Interesting theory! I will have to check this out....first I need to find some glass. I can see my friends stopping by and I have oven mitts on and 12" vinyl baking up. :bolt:

I'd be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry careful. . . . don't know if I'd use that much heat. I've HEARD of just placing it between two books and putting it on top of something mildly hot like your dryer. I think if it's too hot though, it'll ruin the grooves, even if you do flatten the record out.

Pick is right, it's very sketchy. i've heard of people using glass and putting stuff out in the sun for a little while, but the sun isn't as consistent as an oven.

Actually, I might just try the dryer......i was wondering how much damage the strong heat would due to the grooves. My luck I would pull it out of oven and it would look like chewing gum stck on the bottom of a shoe. Not good! :scared:

I managed to pretty decently flatten out a record that arrived warped from the UK (frikkin recordstore.co.uk...dahhh!) - I just put that record at the bottom of a large stack of records every time, making sure it was sitting on a flat hard surface. eventually i think the pressure just mushed it flat, and now it plays fine.

Someone posted on clubplanet (i think) a while back that they had figured something out by heating up a mug of hot water then placing that on the label or something, but I dont recall exactly how it was done :sadblue:

Anyways - good luck! When did this happen? Over the summer, or did it get hot enough in the car ot do that just recently?

Yeah.....it happened recently! I feel sick to my stomach thinking about it! If I could kick my own ass I would.....thats how mad I am! :evilred: But yeah, its always hot out here in CA...I should have known better. See I am used to the East Coast getting freakin colder.....the thing is it is 95 during the day and 50 at night. Huge contrast! Thats why I thought it would be cool just to leave it in the car.

I would suggest just using a light bulb to create some radiant heat.

be realy carefull

try on a record that you don't like as much as the others first.

read this website.....
never really thought about it, but the thickness of the record and the actual material (LP's are not all vinyl) makes a difference in 'unwarping' your rekkids.

my roommate ruined a couple records by putting them in the sun under glass, trying to unwarp them. be very, very careful.

I honestly don't think there is a way to do this without affecting the grooves.... you can try.... I'd love to hear a fool-proof way to fix warps.

if it's badly warped, consider it a lost cause. if it's not that bad, put it in between a bunch of really tightly-packed records in a crate for a few days.

i once fixed a record by putting it in VERY hot water (in the tub) and then stacking a bunch of books on top of it while it was on the floor.

I like the stylish idea of molding them into bowls as shown! I will have to just test one and see whats up.:not agaaain:

Yeah...it is the far edges that are warped the most. I can locate decent grooves towards the center. It looks hella crazy though on the turntables. Scared the shit out of me when my needle flw up and back down hard on the album. Dont need to be replacing needles over crapped out vinyl. :sadblue:

The DJ store near my house in New York sells them in all different colors of vinyl, they're really cute! I was thinking of picking one up

Nobody has seen the commercial for the Panasonic audio recorder? The chick is recording all her vinyl and then pulls a record out of the oven that is all smushed into a bowl... there are other vinyl artsy things in the background... kinda cool.

placing the record on top of the dryer under some (a bunch of) books has done the trick for me before. 'good luck'

cool. i guess the idea is to get it warm enough to be pliable but not melt...

Stick in the middle of a crate

OR

2 panes of glass out in the sun for 30 mins or so

sorry whoever wrote it- but I will refrain from putting any of my wax in the oven.

i heard somewhere that you take the two rubber mats you get with whatever equipement (or maybe he jus bought them i dont know), but you heat those up and stick the record inbetween and jus leave it there to unwarp. i dont dj so im jus trying to reaccount what this guy told another. jus tryin to help

What you do is place the warped record underneath a couch cushion and then have a very large man (or woman) sit on that couch cushion for at least an hour.

All will be good and fine then.

You know there are some vinyl cleaning services around, I think at least one in DC and I'm sure as close as Philly, that would have a professional way of reshaping your plates.

I don't know the name of any, or have an contact info. for you. At one time I tried looking for one, but never found one.

Uhm, that would be my approach first, then if that falls through, a duck-tape job.

LOL
No you make them stick it in their crack first then sit down.

Actually, I just had an idea.
Take the warped plate put it on your turntable. Remove the platter from your other turntable and place it on top of the record, like a vinyl sandwich. (flat side down, 'ya know). And then turn on the turntable, have it rotate for awhile. Don't do it all day and night, but let it still there for awhile.
I figure the rotating will work out the uneveness.

who knows??????? "sit on that couch cushion " Hell 'ya, think out da box.

yeah this is how i have been told to fix this issue..

i like matt's suggestion of using the sun as a heat source.. especially since its getting warm out again..

and that aol page about "unwarping" is pretty good..

good luck
