Yes Family Guy is by far the funniest show i have ever seen. The two funniest shows ever are the Simpsons and Family Guy but Family Guy is my fav. cause it goes that extra step that the Simpsons never did. Yes Family Guy is very offensive but thats what makes it the great show it is. You just have to watch it with an open mind and be prepared to laugh your ass off.

Family Guy is better for the 'ha ha' laugh. Simpsons, being mostly political and social humour is the 'hmmmhmmmhmmmp' laugh.

There were a couple years that the Simpson's was untouchable in humour, but the early were kinda weak and the later kinda lame. Family Guy is still relatively new, but hasn't let down.

What the fuck do you mean "paved the way" ? Watch the episode "Colonel Homer" currently on DVD (w/ commentary on) someone calls out 'Family Guy'...family guy's only gag....cutting to a funny ass scene from the past or present, etc. was stolen from the simpsons....that's why the simpsons don't do that anymore......

anyways....i do love family guy though,,,its funny as fuck, it can't compare to the funniest show ever though (los simpsons)

agreed the simnpsons replay value is much higher, but i like both shows for different reasons, i can t place one above the other, they both have they re highs and lows, the simpsons has more just because they ve been around longer, but don t hate on the new kid on the block

Homer and stewey are the best characters ever
i d like to see a family guy meets the simpsons movie, i bet it would suck cause things like that normally do, but it would be interesting to see what the writers of those two shows come up with together

But south park does that humor more humorerly

Simpsons still beats out family guy in terms of being funny without shoving it down your throat. Subtle i believe is the word...

While both shows are out loud hilarious.......Simpsons still wins. Family Guy is excellent but a # of episodes follow similar storylines as the simpsons (ala South Park's SIMPSONS DID IT! Episode). Kudos to Family Guy b/c it did push the envelope....get the DVDs...you won't be disappointed.

Now SOUTH PARK......they have gone into the stratosphere since last season.......J-Lo and Ben Affleck episode.....Funniest ever.

Family Guy has those hilarious moments, but the Simpsons has those one-liners that get me every time. Like the episode where Bart and Lisa attend military school, and before Bart's weapon training the sergeant says "since you attended public school, I'm going to assume you're already proficient with small arms" and hands him a machine gun.

The episode when Stewie got fat and Brian starts spinning him like a top.....I literally fell on the floor

I love Lisa, Bart, Marge, Homer, Maggie, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Groundskeeper Willie, Apu, Cheif Wigum, Snake, Moe, Barney.

I do not love Peter, Stuy, and the rest of them.
Family Guy will never ever ever ever come close to the genius of Matt Groening and the Simpsons cast and writers.

Anyone who hasnt gotten the 4th season of the simpsons on dvd is missing out.
The Golden Conan O'brien years. Phill Hartman is basically in every episode.
Monorail, Mr. Plow, Homers Triple Bypass, Kamp Krusty.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Let's see...

Fat idiot husband and father.
Housewife mother.
Unpopular daughter.
Troubled son.
Homicidal baby (to different degrees, yes. Stewie tries to kill his mother, Maggie shot Mr. Burns). Okay that one is farfetched, but look at the other comparisons. Too bad the Simpsons lacks an intelligent pet.

As someone said earlier, if it wasnt for the Simpsons, shows like Family Guy wouldnt exist... and i completely agree. Im positive anyone who likes Family Guy now was laughing to the Simpsons in the earlier 90's. Both shows are great and groundbreaking on different levels.

Funniest character on Family Guy in my opinion is Adam West.
Funniest character on The Simpsons in my opinon was Lionel Hutz.
(Minor and occasional characters of course).

Family Guy is funnier.

Simpsons has more sustaining power.

But why would I watch The Simpsons if it sometimes doesn't amuse me? If it's on, and the point of the show is to make me laugh, but it's not consistently making me laugh why would I watch it? If I wouldn't watch a show, it doesn't matter if it's on or not. So the fact that it's lasted this long to me is a moot point. Also, the Simpsons were the pioneers in social commentary through animated comedy, but I'm not going to vote for something just because it has senority. Supporting mediocrity only breeds more mediocrity and there's already way enough of that on TV as it is.

So even though it seems the Simpsons has more power to sustain itself, I'm going to have to go with the Family Guy.

I agree that Family Guy is funnier and I enjoy it a lot, but as the test of time goes the Simpsons have survived, Family Guy did not.

This whole "Simpsons is better because it has stood the test of time" idea is totally retarded. It simply means that a lot of people have watched the show over the years, and if anything, it's been proven time and time again that the general public doesn't know jack shit. I don't need to remind you that Cher and shitty daytime dramas like All My Children have both also stood the test of time. Just because something's been around for a while, doesn't make it good - it just means that enough people like it to keep it around, which counts for not a damn IMO.

Say you like Simpsons better because it's wittier, or has better writers, or whatever, but don't say it's better just because it's been around so long. That's merely an observation and not a personal reason for liking it.

well, of the two I say the simpsons. as much as I think the family guy roXoRZ really don't like the ADD flashbacks they have too many of. it disrupts the flow of the show IMO

ummm that was the gimmick Family Guy was pretty much based on...

I think they're great cuz they allow more jokes... plus they're irreverent and hilarious.

ummm family guy is still on and new epsiodes come out in may.....so how is it not surviving?

It was on FOX primetime for about 1 year maybe, and than got moved to ADULT SWIM .... they are only now recently making more episodes while the Simpsons have continued for 15 years being on a primetime FOX slot.

Theres no comparison

actually...they stopped making episodes of the family guy for a while because they did something "racist" and too controversial...Adult Swim then picked it up....it's back because so many watch it when it's on TBS of Cartoon Network that Foz new is was a money maker....

anyways....they can't be on their 15th season because they haven't been around that long...hit me up in like 10 years and we'll see....and....

just because it's been on forever doesn't mean it is still good...Sally Jessie is still on...need i say more?

i LOVE the simpsons, and have for years. it's a great show for laughs and political commentary, without the obscenities in south park. the family guy, however, is the bees knees. i only caught on to it about a month or so ago, and it absolutely heart it. in fact, i'm all jazzed up to watch it tonight, since i was a good egg and completed my to-do list today.

Taken from back when I thought posting was very serious business.

Okay, that is all, thank you.

constantly seeing shit in family guy straight jacked from the simpsons.. of course South Park already went over this with SImpsons Did It. but it's true. family guy is just a bunch of non sequitors, which can be funny, but it gets old fast. how ironic, family guy overdid non-sequitor into becoming cliche

I think the Simpsons is a show that not everyone will get. A TON of the jokes are insider or intellectual so if you don't know history or literature or film etc.. you won't get the joke. To me that's what makes it genius.

So that means that FamGuy has mass appeal for the dumb who just want slapstick shallow comedy and the Simpsons is meant for everyone because they not only use lowbrow comedy they also throw in the "intellectual" jokes and wordplay as well.

"At last, my weather machine is nearly completed.... What do you say to that brocholi??? STOP MOCKING ME!"

I one laughed till I couldn't breathe at the simpsons, it was the episode where bart prank called moe and gave his address so moe would rough up jimbo who was trying to make out with the girl the bart liked.

after finding out jimbo was a wuss moe says "ahh, I better go check on barney!" and it cuts to the bar where barney is laying on the bar with his mouth on the tap. he stops and says "uh-oh, my heart just stopped" then he jerked and said "ah, there it goes"

The best Simpson's Episode was the "Behind the Laughter" episode....

Marge: "Homer and I had a great chemistry on the set."
Homer: "I thought about firing Marge everyday, you know, just to change things up a bit."
