this pisses me off because I have no problem sitting through a three hour movie. :redfu: to all the short attention span losers out there pressuring production compaines into shortening our films. Granted the script is 190 pgs and in hollywood one page equals about 1 minute of movie. BUt still, an artist creation should not be disturbed because of the percieved ineptitude of the audience.

Wow, that is pretty :uhh:

I guess I'd take that over them cutting an hour off of the film, but Miramax should have a little more respect for Tarantino. It should be his call, not theirs.

Dizardak
2003-07-17, 03:26 PM
if they'll tell Scorsese he needs ot cut his film then they'd do it to anyone.

Agreed, but Tarantino put Miramax on the map.

I'm talking about $$$, not awards. S,L & V made chump change compared to Pulp.

clm_01
2003-07-17, 03:38 PM
Even Miramax says that Tarantino made them famous- since Pulp Fiction brought in SO much money for them.

Dizardak
2003-07-17, 03:39 PM
Yes Pulp made the most money, but it was SLV that put them on the map and they had Oscar nominations every year after that whether it was "My Left Foot" or *shudders* "The Crying Game"...please refer to the following link for more http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/series/Miramax.php

This is from the AP story:
Miramax wanted to be accommodating with Tarantino, whose 1994 crime romp, "Pulp Fiction," a $100-million hit, helped establish the Disney-owned distributor as a major Hollywood player.

"We believe in him. He's somebody we have a great track record with," Miramax spokesman Paul Pflug said Wednesday. "He's one of the key factors why Miramax has become who it is."

This has to be said... I really enjoy QT's films, but let's face it... he's a splice artist.. perhaps the best splice artist out there, but he goes beyond the line of paying homage and ripping people off. But people can forgive him, because he has a large forehead.

MattaKnox
2003-07-17, 03:46 PM
:haha:

But it's his orginal dialogue that puts him above the competition IMO. And everyone's a splice artist, at least he admits to it.

Dizardak
2003-07-17, 04:06 PM
everyone steals from everyone that's art. best example i can give is De Palma's "Untouchables". Everyone thinks of that baby carriage going down the steps as such a great cinematic moment and a historical moment in film when De Palma took that scene from a 1927 Russian film called "Battleship Potemkin". My views on stealing from films in similar to that of sampling music. It's art and when we let $$ and corporations tell us what we can and can't use in our art then we are all lost. Ask the Biz :sadblue:

Dizardak
2003-07-17, 04:10 PM
Furthermore, artist may come up with similar, if not exactly the same, ideas. A lot of people told me my movie reminded them at times of Zoolander, a film I to this day still haven't seen. To say that only one person can come up with one theme or idea is wrong.

Pokemon?

Seriously though, it is the LAMEST to split up the movie.... Everyone has been waiting for Kill Bill and now all we get is part of it? What if the first half isn't as good as the 2nd half? Blah...seems like a bad idea to me.

"Pigman!"

"Whats he doing?"

"He's finishing his senior thesis. Pigman is trying to prove the Caine-Hackman Theory: No matter what time it is, 24 hours a day, you can find a Michael Caine or Gene Hackman movie playing on TV."

"That's his thesis?"

"Yes! Thats the beauty of college these days, Tommy! You can major in Gameboy if you know how to bullshit."

In Kill Bill, Uma Thurman does the whole "square" drawing in the air with one finger while she's talking to vivica a fox in one scene, and also, in vol 1, Uma Thurman's character's name is bleeped out every time you hear it, and you won't actually find out what it is until vol 2.

I SAW IT! YAYAYAY!

It rawks my world.

This movie was ultraviolent but full of amazing visuals. The storyline is great, the characters are great..you can really tell QT watched a ton of movies. He borrows from dozens of pictures to create a very strong piece of work. But man..by the time it was over...whoa...it was brutal...but AWESOME!!

Go see it!!!

To all:

Go out and see this movie. If you're a NYU Couch Potato and movies are your life, don't wait around for this to come out on DVD. Get off your ass and go see it today or tonight.

From the way QT takes you down a historic path of various styles of directing to ultra-violence, man! I was blown away! If you love martial art movies but long for a good story, check this out!

Honestly, splitting the movie into two was nothing more than a way for Miramax to gouge money from us. Based off of interviews with Tarantino, I think every negative review I've heard of the movie wouldn't be coming from the same angle if they saw the entire movie in one sitting...

All in all though... Kill Bill vol. 1 was a hell of a fun time...

Yeah, like Matt stated earlier on there isn't blood spouting arteries in this movie! :whoa:

I was tripping over how the dramatic music plays from time to time, reminded me of older Indian movies. :afterbuzz:

Also, interestingly they let you carry samurai swords on airplanes. Now that rocks, besides having a samurai holster on your bike!! :D

Great movie, excellent use of animation for a flashback scene. Cuts out the human emotional crap. :onethumb:

Personally, though I think Lucy Liu didn't fit the role of an assasin. She just didn't have the ruthless sexy punch.

Oh, yea, the gun-in-cereal box move made me :poop:... huh huh

BTW: I was watching the behind the scenes stuff on DVD and there's a scene which seems to have been dropped completely - one where Uma is training with an old Japanese in traditional garb.
